What was the first Record/Tape/CD you ever bought?

Over at the IHOF board VPI97 mentioned that the first tape he ever bought was the Beastie Boys (the one with No Sleep 'til Brooklyn on it - I can't remember the name). So, I thought it might be interesting to see what the first record/tape/cd others bought.

For me, I bought two tapes:

Journey - Frontiers
Def Leppard - Pyromania

What was your first?

I can't remember my first CD, as I think I bought 8 from Columbia House to get my collection started.

I can't think of the first tape that I bought off the top of my head, but the first CD I ever bought was Bone Thugs-N-Harmony's E. 1999 Eternal in 1997.

It was vinyl, but I don't remember if it was Journey - Escape, or J. Giles Band's Freeze Frame.

Like Buzzbee - first record (well, tape) was Pyromania. 2nd one was Def Leppard's High and Dry and I think the 3rd was Duran Duran's Rio.

although I did own a couple Kenny Rogers tapes / records and the Empire Strikes Back soundtrack...but I don't think I personally bought any of those.

First album: Transformers the Movie soundtrack (featuring such ground-breaking songs as "You've Got The Touch" by Stan Bush and "Dare to be Stupid" by Weird Al Yankovic).

First single: Partners in Kryme, "T.U.R.T.L.E. Power".

I was never as cool again ...

That's it. Funny thing is, I have that somewhere, on vinyl. I remember there was a big fuss because if you opened up the cover it showed a plane crashing into the side of a mountain. However, if you just looked at one panel, the reference to a an erect penis with pubic hair was fairly obvious.

(That's probably why VPI bought it!)

My first two tapes were License to Ill and Appetite for Destruction.

My first CD, if I remember right, was the first Enigma album (the one with the chanting, before it turned into pop crap) at the same time I bought the CD player.

Funny. Lots of Def Leppard and Beastie Boys so far. I'm not sure if that is cool, or disturbing.

My first CD was Peter Gabriel's So. I'm having trouble remembering the first record or tape that I bought... I know I poached a lot of 8-tracks from my dad, who was a lazy Columbia House subscriber back in the day. I think the first records I bought for myself were from the "As Seen On TV" stripe -- for some reason I think one was called "Music Machine" and had Robby the Robot or some facsimile thereof on the cover. Great stuff - sort of "big hits from about a year ago" material.

My first CD was sadly enough Positive K The Skills Dat Pay Da Bills, just remember that because of the old school big ass CD cases.

Tape I'm not sure, but the first I remember is a Best of Johnny Cash, God only knows which one.

I don't remember exactly....but I know these were the candidates.

First CD

First Cassette

The Michael Jackson album was great for the time, but in retrospect, I admit it haunts me enough to almost lie about what my first tapes were. And damn, Prince. I never listened to the "B Side" of that tape until I was in the car with my parents and the car had the auto-reverse action going. Talk about embarrasing...

Yup...7th grade. I would have started buying albums earlier, but I had an older brother and I always listened to his stuff (The Outfield, Van Halen, etc) before then. The first CD's I bought were a few years later (Smithereens - 11; Depeche Mode - Violator)

Had to think about it, but the first 8 track I bought (when I was only 7) was Queen's "A Night at the Opera". Didn't have it for long though. While the car was in the driveway, someone came speeding around the corner, jumped the curb, and knocked the car into the living room. I forgot to get the tape out before they towed the car away.

Bruce Springsteen "Born in the U.S.A." It was pretty good. I then went on to buy about 15 more tapes and 5 CD's over the following 20 years.

The first CD I bought was a birthday present from my Mom it was The Beatles Magical Mystery Tour.

The first one I bought for myself was a Columbia House group for 8 or so that I can't remember.

The first Tapes/Albums that was ever given to me was from Columbia House as well and that was Ozzy Osbourne Bark and the Moon and Weird Al in 3D.

My first CD was definitely Appetite For Destruction (Guns and Roses). My first tape was definitely a Rush album, and I think it was Signals, although it might have been one of a few others.

Here's a bonus... the last CD I ever bought thadt came in the long box (remember the huge cardboard packaging?) was Roll The Bones by Rush.

My dad used to buy me the latest K-Tel record as a reward for not driving my mom crazy when he went away for business, but the first full album I ever owned was Breakfast in America by Supertramp.

The first album I actually purchased was Diary of a Madman by Ozzy.
