Build Your Hollywood Studio Draft Sign Up Thread

Hello all! There hasn't been a draft here in a while, and even thought I've only
participated in one, I figured why not try to do one as a host/GM.

The goal of this draft is to draft a Hollywood Movie Studio. You need producers, directors, actors, and even an intellectual property to turn into that first hit.

This is the rules and sign-up thread. We will take the first ten people to sign up. Then I will create a draft thread, and the draft will begin after random order is chosen. Oh, when you sign up, please choose a name for your studio as well.

Here is what you will draft:

Director
Producer
Leading Actor
Leading Actress
Supporting Actor
Supporting Actress
Intellectual Property

You will need to take two of everything but the IP. The IP must be something, anything, that has not been a movie before. It can be a person, event, tv show, comic, move game, toy, place, novel; whatever you want.

In addition, at least four of your characters (does not include IP) must be from the Golden Age of Hollywood (1927-1960). When you make a choice, place it in bold. For example:

2.4 Director, Abe Sargent. Golden Age.

or

6.9 Intellectual Property, The Abe Sargent Story

When someone is taken for one thing, they cannot be taken for another. You can certainly try and force someone into a different era or gig than they are used to, such as pushing a lead into supporting, or pushing a director into a producer, but it may hurt you a lot in the polls.

Once you have made your draft pick, please immediately pm the next person, so they can pick as well. After six hours,* if no selection has been made, then w will skip that person and keep drafting

If you want to avoid this, send me a list of people you want to take, their category, and if they count as Golden Age. I will make that pick at the six hour deadline * - The 6 hour deadline does not include normal sleeping time. If someone picks just after midnight, EST, then they clock does not start against at 6 am EST, for example, but it would for 10 am to 4 pm, for example.

Snake order will be chosen randomly. The first ten to sign up are in. This is a simulation of a Hollywood MOVIE studio, not other media

Questions? Good luck!

I'm just curious - what is the motivation here? You're pushing for close to half of the "people" someone picks to be from an era that no one on the board (except Bucc) can really relate to?

I mean - it's yours how since you're setting it up, but it seems like an odd choice for this message board imo.

I'm in.

And I like the Golden Age rule. There are certainly enough notable people from that era for everyone to fill four slots.

I just came to say:

Show me someone who knows the actors from that time, and maybe I'll accept their answer.

One third is a fair number for a time that includes some of the biggest name actors, actresses and directors in Hollywood. My reasons for the rule are two.

1). It adds a significant strategic dimension to the game.
2). Plus, recall that only 20 people are getting chosen in each category (director, producer, lead actor, lead actress, supporting actor, support actress). I think there is plenty of room in these 20 to find space for just four of your 12 people team from the Golden Age.

Two questions though.

On the Golden Age rule, what qualifies on the 1927-1960 limitation. Is only appearing in a movie during that time qualify you or they have had to do the bulk of their career during that time???

On the IP rule. Whatever you pick could have been in a movie, just not the main story?

You choose it. You can put someone who was never even born in the Golden Age if you want, but voters will likely ding you for it.

Do you mean never even alive during the golden age? Born in the golden age is pretty limiting and would cancel out alot of classic stars.

You can assign anyone you want to your four Golden Age spots, for whatever reason you want. that's my point - it has limitless possibilities.

I thought I worded it pretty carefully to not be confrontational or nitpicky.

May I also add the usual disclaimer of if you take this to seriously and can't handle criticizm of your picks or some piling on in the case if Danny Hearly and Shia Labouf then this may not be the game fir you.

Nah.. I just wanted to criticize him for anything. Like what he ate for lunch, hair style, favorite color. Just reserving the right for later.

That gives us our ten. Tonight I will post the game thread, and randomized draft order, then you can start tomorrow morning officlaly, but if you want to go ahead and start drafting tonight, you can. No clock though.

Got a judging question. Are we judging on a studio on a whole that would make greatest movies or the studio that has the greatest picks within their respective fields?
