Star Wars Question
Please settle a household bet.
In Star Wars are the AT AT's pronounced like the word 'at' or pronounced with each letter A-T-A-T? |

Good ole nerd discussion about it here: http://boards.theforce.net/classic_t...7860647/p1/?94
aye-te-aye-te seems to be winning there. There doesn't seem to be an "official" word from Lucasfilm either. Mentioned in there is that in some of the games they use "at-at" though, so that may make it canonical. YAY NERDFESTS!

"AT" "AT" without a doubt ...
First time I've ever met anyone who called them something different to be honest. Last edited by Marc Vaughan : 11-24-2008 at 06:32 PM. |

Some games say "at-at" and other have used A-T-A-T. The films never say it, and the novels obviously don't mention how it's pronounced.
All Terrain Armored Transport - Wookieepedia, the Star Wars Wiki "AT-AT is pronounced "at-at" in Star Wars: Force Commander, and Star Wars: Galactic Battlegrounds. They are also called "A-T-A-T"s briefly in Star Wars: Rogue Squadron II: Rogue Leader. In Star Wars: Battlefront 2 both terms are used. However, in Star Wars Battlefront: Renegade Squadron, it is pronounced "A-T-A-T"" There are several other AT type transports. AT-HE, AT-PT, AT-TE, etc., some of which you can't pronounce the second part and have to say the letters. Plus, "at-"at" just sounds really stupid. |

totally "A" "T" "A" "T". At At's? Are you serious? There are also A-T-S-T's and they don't call them At Sta's.
I'm pretty sure they say it this way in the video games, too, at least in rouge squadron. edit: in other words I agree with sabotai Last edited by JetsIn06 : 11-24-2008 at 07:29 PM. |

While "officially" they called "A" "T" "A" "T", I think they are really better well known as AT ATs. It's sort of like the acronym M.A.D.D. People call it "Madd", not "M" "A" "D" "D". Other acronym's, however, like "D.O.J." or "N.F.L." or "A" "T" "S" "T" don't sound as good when said as words, so they are not. It's "AT" "AT". Trust us.

I've always called them 'At At', mainly because it is common for acronyms (especially military) to be pronounced rather than spelled out. (PRC - Prick, TPS - Tipsy, HMMWV - Humvee for real life examples)
As for the AT-ST, I always called them Chicken Walkers or Scout Walkers and never A T S T

dola
i just viewed the commercials, and calling them "at-at" is the dumbest thing ever conceived by man. of course, given the expansion of the SW universe and all the other A-Ts that came out after the A-T-A-T and A-T-S-T, it's clear that it's A-T-A-T and not "at at". A-T-A-T A-T-A-P A-T-O-T A-T-S-T A-T-T-E A-T-R-T A-T-A-A A-T-P-T A-T-A-R A-T-X-T C-3-P-0 R-2-D-2 if anything, "TIE" is the exception to the norm.

The bet was settled. It was settled a LONG time ago. It's "AT" "AT". Experts have spoken on the matter and we have supported our beliefs with actual evidence. Based on the original post, I beliew it was heybrad's wife who thought they were called "AT" "AT"s. She wins the bet. Our work here is done. This thread is over.

Nope. I don't think I ever gave my opinion. I've always said 'at-at' myself, but I don't really care one way or another. I just love a good nerd fight!

We had actually decared my son the winner. He was pushing A-T-A-T. The A-T-S-T argument is pretty compelling to me, but I probably know less about Star Wars than pretty much anybody.
I would have thought 'At At' would have been more prevelant with the older crowd. My son (9 years old) obviously has access to more Star Wars information than my wife would have at the time she would have started using the term 'At At'. My wife had never even heard of A-T-S-T's. |

On the contrary, the 40 year old narrator who probably didn't really know what Star Wars was just proved how ridiculous "at"-"at" is. He sounded like he was stuttering. A-T-A-T is the clear winner here. Even the thread from the forum filled with nothing but the geekiest of Star Wars geeks support A-T-A-T over "at"-"at". |
