The End Of A Dynasty.
Well, it's safe to say that the dynasty of Kobe/Shaq is finished. They will probably never win more than 1 again as a combo, as Shaq is getting up there in age.
96-76, Spurs with a lil' over 6 to play. |

The Lake Show and Phil especially almost can't believe it. They've come to expect to win every year. Not even making the finals is a big shocker in itself.

Man, that's what I'm thinking. You add Jermaine O'Neal to the Spurs...whooh, that'll be awesome.
Either way, I'm just happy that someone else will be winning the Championship this year, liven things up a bit. I hope the Kings can pull one off on the Mavs now. It figures, the Lakers finally get knocked out, and the Kings will wind up losing anyway. |

I just think the Spurs would be morons to go after Kidd. He's getting up there a bit in years, they have a kid in Parker who I think is going to be a helluva point guard. They really need another body down low to keep Duncan from being the sole center of attention all time.
I think a lot of the Kidd rumors were around before Parker emerged this year, they would both like to play on the same team they've said. Thing is, Duncan WON'T leave San Antonio, and I see no reason for SA to go after Kidd. And as far as Brand and O'Neal, I really hope they go for O'Neal. |

Chandler and Curry are the two monsters the league will have to worry about.

Sad as I really favored the Lakers, but the Spurs have our lttle Frenchy Tony Parker.
The Spurs are now closely followed in France and I recently saw an interview of Tony where they discussed the signing of Jason Kidd and he said he was going to work in evry possible way to prevent them from doing that (PG is his job !). Damn, their facilities are so impressive !!! With Tony Parker and Emmanuelle Ginobili, the Spurs are safe for 4-5 years in the backcourt (depending on contracts situations). They would be wiser to go after a big guy such as Brand or Jermaine O'Neal as mentionned earlier. Robinson, Willis and Malik Rose won't last long (Robinson & Willis are off after this season). |

Why do you want Jermaine O'Neal? He gets to play X amount of games in the Eastern Conference. He'd get eaten up in the Western Conference. Spurs don't need two PF's

I'm guessing that Subby means that they were lucky that Robinson got hurt and they wound up with the first pick in the draft so they could get Duncan a year after being a high seed in the playoffs...

Oh they'll be more conspiracies my friend.. You can count on that.. This in the National Basketball Association we are talking about.. The Refs can only do so much though, and last night the Clip-uh Lakers didn't even give the officials a fighting chance to help them out. The thing now is I don't know who to pull for, as all I was really interested in seeing was the Lake Show put to an end, after the T-Wolves and Magic were knocked out.. My big question now is just how long will Kobe Bryant be in Los Angeles? I remember hearing something fairly recently about him possibly heading elsewhere eventually.. Memphis was mentioned among others... Any info on this?

I would assume that Subby was referring to the top overall pick (and the resulting Tim Duncan) that fell into their lap after the one bad season that SA had when Robinson missed nearly the entire season.

Next year is huge for the Lakers. Phil Jackson probably retires after next year. Shaq has said he wont play anymore when Phil is done. That leaves Kobe and a rebuilding project in LA. Kobe has the option to opt out of his contract after next season. Jerry West is Kobe's mentor and he will be clearing cap room in Memphis if Kobe does opt out. If it happens, the Lakers will suddenly look like the Bulls after they broke up. When Jerry West was the Lakers GM they made a point to say that always kept the free agents that they really wanted and for the most part West did that. Now Mitch Kupchak has to step up to the plate. Kupchak really hasnt done squat since West left so things are very much up in the air right now. |

I think Kobe is unsure of what will happen after Shaq and Jackson retire. This offseason will go a long way in determining what Buss plans to do in the future. I think if we get a good group of FA's in LA, Kobe will stick around. Of course, Byron Scott will have to convince Kobe to stay as well

First, I don't mind if the Lakers look like the Bulls after they broke up. Second, I think Shaq and Kobe will go to wherever the money is. Loyalties to West and Jackson aside, there are only a few teams in the league which are willing to pay a luxury tax, and have a legitimate shot at remaining in contention. Sacramento and Dallas come to mind... I don't know if there are any others. I think Shaq playing for either the Kings or the Mavs makes them totally unbeatable. Ok... I'm done talking out of my ass now. |

{obligatory basketball bashing}
the NBA is the poorest excuse for a major sporting league outside of major league baseball. The players are paid more to do less and bitch about even that. they all SUCK the sport SUCKS. Raise the rim to 12 feet, pur the 3 pt line another 18 inches out and move the foul line back a foot. Then perhaps MAYBE they'll have to really use some skill to play the game again. these overgrown orangutangs they have out there now don't even have to jump half the time to hit the basket. update the game, make it a challenge and not a joke. I'm a 6 foot tal fat man (over 300lbs) and *I* can dunk. Where is the c hallenge? {/obligatory basketball bashing}

You're 6" and over 300 and you can dunk?
I call bullshit. I'm 5'11" and 240, and, even when I was lean and mean at 200, I was nowhere NEAR being able to dunk. |
