IWS #37
IWS Rules
This is copied from IWS #32 and those rules were copied from previous versions of the game. The object of this contest is to answer the questions posted below, and to provide the most common answer among those submitted. This answer does not have to be correct. For each question, your score will be equal to the number of people who submitted that response. Your score for the contest will be the product of your individual question scores. Highest score wins. Send your entries by private message to me, BishopMVP, via PM on the FOFC board. If I run out of space on my private message system, only those actually received will be considered. When I post bumps, I will post the people from whom I have entries so you can make sure that I have received yours. Entries must be submitted by 8:00 PM (EST) on Wednesday May 14, 2003. There aren’t many rules or clarifications necessary, but here are those I can think of: No collaborating in any way. No posting your answers to this board, nor sharing them by email or in any other way with other potential contestants. All determinations of matches and anything else requiring judgment fall to the sole administrator of this puzzle. There will be no appeals or contesting of the results the single judge’s decisions are final. You can, however, reduce the need for doubt and judgment on my part by properly spelling your submissions, being clear, that sort of thing. Anything that gives me clear and precise knowledge of how to determine whether your answer is the same as another answer is very helpful both to me and to you. (Answering Cincinnati Bengals is probably clearer than answering Cincinnati, for instance) The winner of this contest will become the host of the next "I'm With Stupid Contest. If he chooses not to host the contest, the next highest placing participant who wishes to host may do so. In the event of a tie, one winner will moderate, and all winners will have the option to contribute questions. The winner(s), of course, also retain the right to have their screen names published as past winners of the contest for all future versions. And that's nothing to sneeze at, I'll tell you. Past Contests (Partial list now, will edit it later if I have more time): (IWS #36 Q's/R's) Winner: BishopMVP 100% Entrants: 29 (IWS 35 Q's) (IWS 35 R's) (IWS 34 Q's) (IWS 34 R's) (IWS 33 Q's) (IWS 33 R's) (IWS 32 Q's/R's) (IWS 31 Q's/R's) (IWS 30 Q's) (IWS 30 R's) I'm With Stupid #36 Questions: 1. Name a character from the Matrix trilogy other than Neo or Morpheus 2. Which college football team will win the NCAA Title next year? 3. Name the most hated country in the world 4. Name the best Tom Clancy novel 5. Name the best rapper ever 6. Name the funniest FOFC poster Also, if anyone has the spreadsheet for tabulating the results it would be helpful. Thanks. {Edit: Added the word Trilogy to q1} Last edited by BishopMVP : 05-11-2003 at 09:20 PM. |

Bump and sent. I think I'll be undone by my lack of rap knowledge.
BishopMVP, if you want the spreadsheet to keep track of answers, just PM me with an email address to send it to. SI

And we have a tie between RonnieDobbs and Vince with 100% each. Congratulations.
Code:
On the questions, #1 was terrible. I should have either stated something like "that did not appear in the original" or just used a different movie-LOTR would probably work well. #2 went as I expected. #3 would have worked better as a "which country do you hate the most," getting a mix of US/France/Iraq/NK but it was poorly worded for this format. #4 was the best question for the breakdown. #5 I'm not surprised that 2pac won, but I expected it to be a 3-way race between him, B.I.G. and Eminem, but no one went with Biggie. #6 turned out well, although I thought Kodos might get enough to turn it into a 2-person/alien race. Overall, I think I should have gotten another question with more luck and less of an obvious answer, but asking what your favorite emoticon is would have cheapened it, IMO. Congratulations, Ronniedobbs and Vince. You can work it out between the two of you for the next contest. Last edited by BishopMVP : 05-14-2003 at 08:28 PM. |

I finally got the formatting right for the scores, I won't even attempt it for the answers, so here is the breakdown for each question:
1. Name a character from the Matrix trilogy other than Neo or Morpheus Trinity 24 Agent Smith 1 2. Which college football team will win the NCAA Title next year? Miami 14 Ohio State 7 Oklahoma 3 Florida 1 3. Name the most hated country in the world USA 18 France 6 North Korea 1 4. Name the best Tom Clancy novel Hunt for Red October 12 Sum of All Fears 4 Clear and Present Danger 2 Rainbow Six 2 Patriot Games 2 Red Storm Rising 1 Cardinal of the Kremlin 1 Pelican Brief 1 (actually Grisham) 5. Name the best rapper ever 2pac 14 Eminem 5 Snoop Dogg 3 Dr. Dre 2 Ice T 1 6. Name the funniest FOFC poster Fritz 16 Kodos 5 Jason Tobias IV 1 Coffee Warlord 1 Franklinnoble 1 HornsManiac 1 (Insert your favorite Cocky joke here) |

Woo-hoo! I was quite surprised at all the people saying that they thought they would do terrible...I was fairly confident in my answers for the first time ever. To be honest, Fritz was my weakest guess, in my opinion. I thought that Kodos or Tobias would make a run at that category.

If this was 6 months-1 year ago Tobias would have been up there, and wig too likely. But they're not around much anymore.
One more note; I think the 3-day turnover worked well and could even be reduced to a 2-day turnover if it is during the week. I only received 3 entries after 8 PM last night, so it seems the majority will enter within 2 days. |

Damn, I went with HM on the humor question because I figured he scored high on the inadvertantly funny scale.

I think I might be the worst here. I have never seen the Matrix, I detest rap, I have never read a Tom Clancy Novel (was Splinter Cell a novel? Rainbow Six?), AND.......
I don't think any of you are funny.

Yeah, sometimes some of these questions preclude certain members or almost force a "looked up" answer. I've never seen Matrix either, the only way I knew Trinity was to look it up on IMDB and see who was listed third. Personally, I've never heard a 2Pac song, at least I don't think I have. Can't say I know much of Snoop's work either, I just get a kick out of his antics. I made it through a bit of one of the Clancy novels...the one where a plane takes out the Capital Building. Now if it was what was the best Movie Adaptation of a Tom Clancy Novel.... IWS #30 was a good example of this (sorry Joe Canadian): 2. Name a member of the “Dave Matthews Band” other than Dave Matthews. 5. Name a character, NOT actor, in the movie “The Usual Suspects.” |

Doh! One question away again from being perfect! Arghhh. LOL The only reason I picked Kodos over Fritz was because of that recent poll someone posted asking, "How funny is Kodos?" It was still fresh in my mind. After turning in my entry and reading a Fritz post, I quickly realized I had blown it.
