This was fully funded by the wonderful people at FOFC and a couple members of my family, thank you again for everything. I definitely support the work of Donorschoose.org. Thanks again for making this happen,

What's the timeframe on this? I can muster up some support for a fellow Boilermaker and English educator.

Guys, thank you already. The actual donation project expires in September (thanks to Summer Break) but I have high hopes of doing it within a month. I'm not the kind of person that goes around asking for things (my parents always bought the entire box of candy when we were supposed to fund raise for youth league, that kind of thing) but this isn't for me, it's for my kids and so I decided to pony up.

If it's anything like the ELMO I saw in a class or two I had, think overhead projector except without the need to create transparencies. You can just use normally written pages so it drastically reduces costs (i.e. using pens and normal paper instead of transparencies) and has increased flexibility since you can just throw whatever up there (again, not restricted by transparency).

Probably these days it comes with a whole host of other bells and whistles that will allow you to hook up some other media to them like computers, etc.

Anyone else having trouble with the site? I went through the checkout and it confirmed the donation but then when I went back to look at the page it didn't update anything. It doesn't even recognize the account I just setup. Did I do something wrong somewhere?

Gary, thank you and I actually panicked the first time I gave as well. It takes like 10 or 15 minutes to show up.

Yellow5, thank you very much.

Everybody, thank you on behalf of my students. I am an English teacher that treats literature as secondary, I want my students to be able to think, write, and communicate for the real world and this is a tool that I believe can help that happen. It means a lot to me that you're helping.

I have posted my classroom's need on there and would love any and all support that you guys could give (even if it is just moral support!).

I teach in a school with 36% reduced/free lunch, a very high rate of special education, and we have struggled mightily making AYP. I truly believe that the ELMO technology can and will benefit my students, particularly those with special needs. I actually have already purchased an LCD on my own to hopefully make this happen and will be supplying the installation costs as well.

What I am looking for is support in getting the actual ELMO. If you haven't used one, the classroom benefits are amazing. Here is the link to my project and I believe that I will be providing $50-100 myself (depending on what my "boss" [re: wife] says). I will also be building the Smart Board project that Peregrine forwarded me (which is how to make a homemade Smart Board).

Anyway, any help you could give would be greatly appreciated,

Brad

DonorsChoose.org: Preparing Students for the Next Step

Wish I could send you one of the Smart Boards here at work that just collects dust on the wall of my old department... The thing never made sense for them to waste money on...

Yeah, they seem to be having an internal server error. I'll check and let you guys know when it is back up. But thank you already.

DanGarion, I look back to the technology we had (and wasted) at my old job and it is scary. We had a closet in the stockroom with 5 unopened laptops, 5 Smart Boards, and some other various things that, in my three years there, never were used. It's sad now.

I'm planning on doing this for my classroom soon as well. My school, like yours, is well over 1/3 free and reduced and I'm sure there's another 1/3 that's not far from qualifying. I need some science materials to do hands on projects.

Good Luck with your project!

Thank you all so much. My wife is also a teacher at the same school (on maternity leave with our newborn) but she has been even more excited with this than I have. My kids will be amazed that people that don't know them have stepped up like this.

Thanks a ton guys and I will be working on getting a pic of the kids up. I have to get a permission slip to parents that allows me to photograph and post the picture (district policy) but I will definitely do it. Plus, once we hit the target goal, I get to post a bunch of pics of the kids on the website so I will be sending that slip anyway.

Wanted to follow up with the response from my first two classes: They are truly amazed. I had several people in each class ask "why would they give to us?" It was really nice to be able to tell them that they are important, they do matter, and people that may never meet them think they are worth helping. Very cool guys and it has made this a terrific day.

Flasch, that would be amazing if just one person did that (reminds me a bit of "Alice's Restaurant"). I've nailed my family (curse of being an only child is that it's very small!) but have the wife asking her's.

Pretty amazing to follow.

A great lesson for Brad's students (and probably Brad, himself), in that something that seemed unobtainable for 2-years+ was able to be accomplished in less than 24-hours. I bet that many of them, when they are in a position to give (in a few years), will think back on this and help others, as well.
