OMFG!!! TEH BORD IS DYING!!!

Every year, someone posts that FOFC is dying...or not as good it used to be...or whatever.

I thought I'd just begin the topic.

1. Members no longer have to walk 1 mile uphill, in the snow, to get to their computers.

2. PCs no longer cost $4,500 and so any dumb schmuck can have one, degrading the level of intellect on the board.

3. The newest version of FOF was teh suck and the program is dying. Madden for the console is better.

4. Derek Smart doesn't visit here anymore.

5. The front page hasn't been updated in months.

6. There's a front page?

7. HornsManiac is banned and he was the only funny one anyway.

8. PC games are dying.

9. Dave Dial was right.

10. You guys are all elitist asshats.

Thank you, now back to your regularly scheduled surfing, already in progress.

After seeing Suicane's "fisting" thread, this is more appropriate than I thought...

Here's the deal ... I used to be in the category of people who would (mostly kiddingly) refer to the "Golden Age" of FOFC. I don't believe such an age actually existed, because let's face it this is just a frackin' message board.

But there is one thing on FOFC that I think makes it a more "watered down" place to to acquire certain information, and that one thing is this: a pervasive sensation for many people to post every goddamn thing that enters their head. People can't take a dump without posting about it here (literally, unfortunately). I'll understand if something mildly amusing happens to you. More power to you if you want to start a political discussion. If you actually want to talk about FOF and other sports sims, personally I think we ought to stickie it at the top, but at the very least I appreciate the effort. Want to ask for advice about a major purchase? I'm behind you 100 percent.

If all you want to do is post about sandwiches you've eaten, idiotic movies you've seen on Lifetime, getting drunk and blathering on about being drunk, restaurants and concerts you've been or recent bowel movements, do yourself a favor and log off the computer and go out and get a frackin' friend for Christmas. Or at the very least follow the lesson of Hell Atlantic -- god forbid -- and start the blog you've always wanted to so you can archive all your thoughts and feelings for the world to see in handy digest form.

And people think Bucc is a curmudgeon ...

I'd agree with you to a point. Actually, I had this conversation with someone yesterday. We were discussing how it used to be that The Sideline/FOFC didn't need to be modded very much. No one ever posted links to porn. Pics couldn't be posted. No one posted to cause drama and controversy. The most "outlandish" posting was Hell Atlantic going on and on about Dean Houston, QB extraordinaire and model citizen, and the good-natured ribbing that others gave him about Dean slapping a child. The board was much smaller then, and therefore not nearly as attractive to the drama queens who have shown up recently. I don't *think* I'm getting more restrictive, but the fact is that even in the 2-ish years since I've taken over, things have changed. It used to be that I'd usually go 2-4 months without suspending or banning a single person other than the one-post wonders. ("D00dz, can some1 give me ur registration code!") Now, it seems like every couple of weeks or so.

Drama here? Noooooo ...

It's not so much the drama queens that cause the bannings and problems as much as it is the "Hey, look at me I'm on the Internet! Woo-hoo" attitude. I don't think there has been anyone put in the box or banned where the root cause was something other than they were doing something to draw attention to themselves.

Do it like Walter Payton ... post your message and hand the ball back to the ref. No need to dance and post porn links.
