Remember "Thundarr the Barbarian"

Well there is a new show on Adult Swim that is like Thundarr but with a mature/funny theme it's called;

KORGOTH of Barbaria

"In a dark future wasteland, the cities have fallen, primordial beasts have reclaimed the globe and thieves and savages populate sparse, dirty towns. Korgoth emerges from the frozen north, and his merciless savagery may be his only key to survival. Korgoth of Barbaria is an animated fantasy-action-adventure-comedy"

I watched it last night and it was great, alot of blood/guts and tons of references to Heavy Metal, conan, and thundarr. I recommend checking it out.

After seeing the commercials for this, I think I am going to pass. Plus, I think my wife would think I was crazy watching this...

Crap.. forgot that was on last night. Commercials definitely had me interested just because it had that Heavy Metal look to it.

The cartoon network is completely inappropriate for kids these days.

Anything after 8pm is, you're right. I will note that the "Boomarang" network they created to rehash and bring back old classics is far better attuned to kids.

Good thing since most cartoons are probably watched by guys 18-35.

Very funny stuff - you can find vids at YouTube: hxxp://http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YaQX-Rj5ZpM&search=korgoth

That's the first of 3 parts of the first episode - you should be able to find links to the other 2 parts off to the side of that page.

Edit: Correction, I initially posted part 3. Part 1 is now linked.

Different strokes for different folks, I guess. I've seen it twice and thought it was utter crap, much like a good portion of AS's lineup lately. I guess it's a good thing I'm going to bed earlier these days...

Thanks for the links! I had meant to catch this but forgot... great stuff.

I love the animation style and the concept. Let's hope they can keep up this intensity and keep it fresh at the same time.

Korgoth reminded me of Brock from Venture Bros.

This kindof summed it up for me. However, I thought it was really a one trick pony and has no legs. Speaking of Venture Bros, I hope they don't completely abuse Brock in the second season but seeing what they do on most of Adult Swim these days, they're going to beat that dead horse a million times, long past the point of funny.

Exactly. Since there wasn't really any "story" the episode was bascially just montage of violence (which would be great for a one-shot show) but no characters really popped through and episode after episode of montage-violence will quickly get old.

Korgoth either needs to gain a sidekick (or 2) with personality or he needs to gain a personility himself. Thundarr had Ookla the Mok and Princess Ariel and even Conan wasn't always alone.

I think they can get away with a no-talking all-violence Korgoth if they create great villains, quirky supporting characters, and a variety of adventures.
