How in the world is something like this even possible?
hxxp://www.thewmurchannel.com/news/4269088/detail.html Man Dead On Futon For Nearly 10 Years Before Family Notices POSTED: 2:52 pm EST March 9, 2005 TOKYO -- A Japanese man and his two sisters were worried something might be wrong with dad. And they were right. The old man had been dead for nearly a decade. Police questioned the three elderly siblings Tuesday, after the decomposing body of their father was found lying on a futon bed in the family's home. Police said the man's children thought he was still alive, but became worried lately and consulted a relative. Police said judging by the condition of the remains, the father could have died as long as 10 years ago.

"Police questioned the three elderly siblings Tuesday"
Just how "elderly" are these siblings?

Something tells me there's more than meets the eye to this story. Like, maybe they enjoyed the famw and modest fortune that came with having the city's oldest living resident. But really, after a year of "he's too weak," wouldn't you want to at least see the guy before declaring him the winner? After a couple of years, I'd be inclined to file a missing persons report rather than give him an award for which there is no proof.
BTW, according to another story I read about this, the "children" are in their 70's.

I'm guessing they're a little long on their 10-year horizon.

Haven't you seen Weekend at Bernies? Just throw a pair of sunglasses on a dead guy and apparently no one knows that they are dead. Geesh!

Ahh! wouldn't you think they would notice the smell of rotting flesh? After ten years, I'm sure the body was starting to get pretty ripe! I guess they didn't notice the flies and maggots that have made their dad into a hotel.

That appears to be David Lee Roth's music career on the floor, though.
