This is the feat that amazes me:

Quote:
Frank Pastore, who was a professional pitcher for the Cincinnati Reds, ate the complete steak dinner in 9 and 1/2 minutes. (May 3, 1987)

I like this part on their website:

Quote:
CONTACT US

Amarillo, Texas 79118
Main (800) 657-7177
Lat: N 35°, 11min, 36.40sec
Lon: W 101°, 45min, 18.41sec

If I'm using a GPS with only Lat/Long, then that will come in handy.

Seriously though, every time we drive through there I'm tempted to stop and try it.

I'd driven by the place for 20 years (literally) on trips to New Mexico before finally stopping there this past summer. We stopped in too early to attempt the 72oz. challenge, but that didn't stop me from getting steak and eggs for breakfast. A 24 oz. T-Bone to be exact!

I was stunned. The steaks were awesome. I had always written the place off as a tourist trap, but the meal was a damn fine one. It'll be a regular stop on trips from now on. I'll have to prepare properly to attempt the 72 oz. challenge...

Pastore was only 29 at the time, in the prime of his career...

He never pitched again.

So what is the strategy for eating something that big? I would think starving yourself for a day wouldn't work because I know when I am really hungry I seem to fill up faster for some reason. Is it eat a small breakfast and no lunch or what?

72 oz's of Sirloin better taste good, cause it's not my favorite cut of meat by any means. I'd think your best bet would be to eat a huge lupper the night before and then a smaller breakfast and lunch, at least your stomache would be expanded.

This is the other fact I can't comprehend:

Quote:
Klondike Bill, a professional wrestler, consumed two of the dinners in the one hour time limit back in the 1960s.

Just on the beef alone that is NINE POUNDS!!!! Throw in the baked potato, salad, roll, and shrimp cocktail, that has to add at least another pound and a half to the total! Imagine eating the equivalent in weight to a medium bowling ball. That is just wrong.

I think the strategy would be to not eat much over the days leading into it, but consume lots and lots of water (or really anything that would take up space but not provide nutrition).

Replace the hamburger with the steak in the Krispy Kreme Burger. It'd be like a half dozen donuts.

I'm a fairly big eatter. I'm admittedly out of my prime by a number of years, but even when I really could pack away vast quantities I had trouble with pieces of meat less than half of that size. The largest steak I've ever put away was 24 oz. I have attempted a 36 oz, but made a poor run at it.

72 oz. is simply an amazing amount of meat. 9 1/2 minutes is ridiculous.

I still haven't had a chance to make it back to Amarillo to try the feat. Here is a local Amarillo reporter attempting to devour the meal.

You could do a live dynasty. Schedule a time when you are doing it. Post it and we watch you. You could make signs that tell us about your experience as you ate it.

As I was looking at this thread, the fast eaters have it right. It takes about 20 minutes for your brain to figure out its full. So the quicker you go the better chance you have of making it. You might throw up later, but you have that feeling of pride.
