[TCY] BETA of TCY Viewer 2 Released: Updated 6/9
Updated 6/9/2003: New Download Available, with some bugfixes, more stats tracked, and the new field layout.
Alright, so I'll get the ugly stuff out of the way. This is a beta of the TCY Viewer 2 - it's BETA, so I'm sure there'll be a ton of issues even on top of the ones I already know about. Still, I think it's ready enough to throw out to the masses. It's coded in C# - this means it's Windows compatible (98 and up), but the .NET Framework will need to be installed - link is here to download. Now that that's done... Feature List: - Watch all saved TCY Game Logs at your own pace - Watch saved Logs at 5 speed rates - Pause a Game, and go play-by-play manually - in forward and reverse - Load Game Logs directly from TCY Game Saves - Load Game Logs individually from files - Reference data during the game such as: o Attendance o Weather o Scoring o Running Updates of Game Statistics - Define custom data for each team, such as: o Stadium Name o Team Logo o Team Helmets o Team Colors o End Zones (west and east) o Turf Color There's a list of known issues on the webpage, although I'd appreciate emails, PMs, posts to this thread - heck, basically anything short of a phone call letting me know what's wrong with it that I can fix. The download and screenshots are available at: http://www.lasselanta.net/tcyview/ Thanks, Kevin Last edited by Celeval : 06-09-2003 at 11:12 AM. |

Kevin. the viewer is looking very nice. There are many more options than what was in the original version. A few things I notice that may make an improvement.
1. When you load a log file, the scores are displayed. One of the things I liked about the old viewer was it gave the user some sense of excitement when watching the game. However, when I load the games now, I can already see the score, so this is diminished somewhat. 2. I read where you are going to do some graphical clean-up. On my computer, the field is very small and almost not distinguishable. I would like to see more of the space used. A large field with a mark depicting the ball would be great. Or, you could even incorporate bars representing the teams drive, much like ESPN gametracker. I think however a large field is a must. Otherwise, I think the program is great and I will add suggestions as I go. Thanks Ken Parker |

Regarding the field - I agree, I'd like it larger (and the drive tracker is something I have on tap, but I want to get the bugs out of the way first). The question is screen real estate - question for people who are looking at this now (or just want to see the screenshots at http://www.lasselanta.net/tcyview): Should the utility itself have a bigger window? If the field grows, what could shrink - what is being shown that could be shrunken?
The current utility is 712x400 - my goal was to keep it usable on an 800x600 screen. Would moving the size to (say) 750x500 be problematic or unwieldy? Kevin |

I am not sure about the size limitations. My screen is 1024x768, so it seems small. I would think most people are using this size screen now, but I am not sure. There seems to be a lot of room below the stat display. I would think if you made the display 800X600 you could get a much larger field size if it was below the screen and add the stat screen above the field display. I am not a programmer but could send you some ideas on a cool display.

I feel your pain in this one. I ran into teh same problem, and wound up having to compleytely redo my interface. The key (I found) was to size and place the field first. If that is what you want to be the predominant feature of your display, then you need to start with it. The big problem is that you're going to run out of space to display everything you want. There's just not enough real-estate in a single window. I had to eliminate the running player stats for receiving, passing and rushing, limiting me to the field (complete with colored bars marking off teh plays ), applicable stats for the players involved in the play, scoreboard, game summary, and drive summaries. If I were to start over (which is hesitate to do, since I've put a bunch of work into and its good enough for its intended audience (me) ) I would make it a MDI application, capable of opening up a window (view) for each of the components on the main screen. The user can open up whatever windows thay like, tile, cascade or otherwise arrange them, and take full advantage of their screen real estate. |

I thought about that as well - actually started that way - but the way it is now, you can open up multiple logs and swap between to compare stats at halftime, etc. Plus it ends up being almost as complex an interface as TCY itself.
I think I have a solution, without too much trouble - I'm going to expand the screen by 100px N/S, shrink the Stadium/Stats/Scoring tab pane.. only thing I need to do is change the position of some of the tabs. Should have a new version with that change (and some bugfixes, more stats) tonight. |

File -> Edit Schools - right click various things to change them, including Logos, Colors and End Zones. End Zones will change to pics, but not the hatching yet, working on that nowish.

Hey Kevin, I'm having all kinds of problems getting the Viewer to work..
I've Downloaded & Installed the .NET Program from Microsoft and the TCY Viewer. I was then able to open up the viewer and attempted to open up my TCY Universe File with the Viewer. I was able to pull up a list of games from my UCF Dynasty, #'s 0000001 through 00000091 (1st Game of 1st Season through 2nd Game of 9th Season).. The only thing is I'm actually well beyond that point in the Dynasty, my last Game Played being shown in the Universe File being #00000213. Now, when I attempt to Open Selected Log, example - Game #00000091 UCF at Temple, I get this Error Message... An unhandled exception has occured in your application. If you click Continue, the application will ignore this error and attempt to continue. If you click Quit, the Application will be shut down immediately. Value cannot be null. Parameter Name: Items. ...and then when I click on Details of this Error Message, I get all of this.. See the end of this message for details on invoking just-in-time (JIT) debugging instead of this dialog box. ************** Exception Text ************** System.ArgumentNullException: Value cannot be null. Parameter name: items at System.Windows.Forms.ObjectCollection.AddRangeInternal(ICollection items) at System.Windows.Forms.ObjectCollection.AddRange(Object[] items) at TCYView.LogView.ParseLog(TCYGameLog gameLog) at TCYView.GVMain.gcLogs_DoubleClicked(Object sender, EventArgs e) at TCYView.GVMain.buttonLog_Click(Object sender, EventArgs e) at System.Windows.Forms.Control.OnClick(EventArgs e) at System.Windows.Forms.Button.OnClick(EventArgs e) at System.Windows.Forms.Button.OnMouseUp(MouseEventArgs mevent) at System.Windows.Forms.Control.WmMouseUp(Message& m, MouseButtons button, Int32 clicks) at System.Windows.Forms.Control.WndProc(Message& m) at System.Windows.Forms.ButtonBase.WndProc(Message& m) at System.Windows.Forms.Button.WndProc(Message& m) at System.Windows.Forms.ControlNativeWindow.OnMessage(Message& m) at System.Windows.Forms.ControlNativeWindow.WndProc(Message& m) at System.Windows.Forms.NativeWindow.Callback(IntPtr hWnd, Int32 msg, IntPtr wparam, IntPtr lparam) ************** Loaded Assemblies ************** mscorlib Assembly Version: 1.0.5000.0 Win32 Version: 1.1.4322.573 CodeBase: file:///c:/windows/microsoft.net/framework/v1.1.4322/mscorlib.dll ---------------------------------------- TCYView Assembly Version: 1.0.1255.20016 Win32 Version: 1.0.1255.20016 CodeBase: file:///C:/PROGRAM%20FILES/TCYVIEWER/TCYVIEW.EXE ---------------------------------------- System.Windows.Forms Assembly Version: 1.0.5000.0 Win32 Version: 1.1.4322.573 CodeBase: file:///c:/windows/assembly/gac/system.windows.forms/1.0.5000.0__b77a5c561934e089/system.windows.forms.dll ---------------------------------------- System Assembly Version: 1.0.5000.0 Win32 Version: 1.1.4322.573 CodeBase: file:///c:/windows/assembly/gac/system/1.0.5000.0__b77a5c561934e089/system.dll ---------------------------------------- System.Drawing Assembly Version: 1.0.5000.0 Win32 Version: 1.1.4322.573 CodeBase: file:///c:/windows/assembly/gac/system.drawing/1.0.5000.0__b03f5f7f11d50a3a/system.drawing.dll ---------------------------------------- System.Xml Assembly Version: 1.0.5000.0 Win32 Version: 1.1.4322.573 CodeBase: file:///c:/windows/assembly/gac/system.xml/1.0.5000.0__b77a5c561934e089/system.xml.dll ---------------------------------------- RegexAssembly3_0 Assembly Version: 0.0.0.0 Win32 Version: n/a CodeBase: ---------------------------------------- ************** JIT Debugging ************** To enable just in time (JIT) debugging, the config file for this application or machine (machine.config) must have the jitDebugging value set in the system.windows.forms section.
