The French daily newspaper La Liberation focused on the causes of the war, saying: "The successful military campaign in Iraq can only reassure the powerful U.S. that its vision of the world must be the right one.
"But its pretext for invading Iraq is... being proved wrong. For where are the weapons of mass destruction?"

Tell me it is not important to find these things.

Not only is it important to find WMDs, but the "quantity and quality" are very important as well. It's one thing to find a few chemical warheads stockpiled someplace, but I think it's another to find operational labs with weapons grade plutonium, etc.

I don't know, maybe it's just me, but do the anti-war people really want WMD used just so they can be proved wrong?

I would think that the anti-war people would want no WMD to be found so they could be proven right?

I must say that I'm suprised no chemical/bio attack has been launched. I am not going to characterize Saddam as insane, everything I've ever seen indicates he's far from that, but still, backed into a corner, certain to lose his regime and possibly his life, why wouldn't he order the use of whatever he's got?

Note that I'm not implying that I think they don't have WMD or anything like that... I'm just suprised they didn't throw anything and everything they had at us.

I don't think it matters much for the French. We could find the largest collection of WMD known to man and they would spin it to be either planted or go the route of 'but he was beginning to destroy his weapons and the US didn't give him time'.

It will be worth it if a stable government can be started in that country. That would also give us a good ally in a very unstable part of the world.
