NFL Week 15 - Pacman's career over?

REPORT: PACMAN’S NECK INJURY IS CAREER-THREATENING
Posted by Michael David Smith on December 10, 2008, 4:06 p.m.

Adam Schefter of NFL Network is reporting that the neck injury suffered by Cowboys cornerback Adam “Pacman” Jones Sunday could end his career.

It was previously reported that the injury could end his season, but Schefter reports that it might even be worse than first thought.

Per Schefter, Jones’ body went numb for two minutes when he first suffered the injury. He has been having tests on his neck this week and is planning to meet with a neck specialist in North Carolina.

After missing the entire 2007 season because of a league-imposed suspension, Jones has played in seven games this season, starting six.

No real documentation here but Jime Rome said Dan Snyder is already sick of Jim Zorn. I think Zorn has done a decent job so far, but Snyder seems like the kind of guy who'd pull the trigger on firing him at any time.

I'd assume they want Cowher, and it might be a good fit for him there, somewhat close to home, and he has a team in place who can compete.

I think Zorn has been pretty shitty. His playcalling is terrible, and this issue with Portis is absurd. Portis doesn't have a history as a troublemaker, making me think Zorn is probably at fault to some degree.

Neck injury? I smell a bigger cover-up than MJ's "retirement" due to his gambling suspension .

to some extent, i think snyder was sick of zorn before he hired him as HC. if memory serves, zorn was signed as some assistant (OC? DC?), then when they couldn't get the guy they wanted, the redskins made zorn the HC.

Yes, he was hired as the OC there and if Washington doesn't want him past this season, I'm hoping the Seahawks try to bring him back as OC.

Well, it's a good thing we're playing the Raiders this week..

QB Matt Cassel leaves Patriots after father dies

SAN JOSE, Calif. (AP)—The father of New England Patriots quarterback Matt Cassel has died.

Coach Bill Belichick said Wednesday that Greg Cassel died Monday night and Matt has left the team. Belichick said he didn’t know when the player would return.

Greg Cassel was a script writer in California, and the Patriots were practicing at San Jose State this week for Sunday’s game at the Oakland Raiders. The team stayed on the West Coast after last Sunday’s 24-21 win in Seattle.

Matt Cassel is from Northridge in the Los Angeles area and his father and mother Barbara divorced when he was 14.

Dan Marino is no longer a QB, so really it was a bad week for one QB, his dad, and his mom.

So, since Marino is no longer a QB it isn't bad for him or his parents that his dad died?

I am sure it is horrible. I am just saying it is horrible for one QB, and one pre-game show analyst.

Never did either till Pacman roamed the Earth. His career should be over anyway. He shouldn't be playing at all after all his fuckups. This would just doing an irreversible justice Goodell won't do.

Uh. He "left" the team? What exactly does that mean aside from that he is no longer practicing or projected to play this week?

Not knowing when he's going to come back? This is an odd story. The language used doesn't say "Cassel left the team to mourn the death of his father" it just says that the team says that Cassel left and they don't know hen he'll be back.

I saw Pac Man has a herniated disk.

I herniated 3 disks in my back a few years ago and I couldn't mover, let alone play football.

3 years later it still bothers me.

ESPN is talking about this right now.

ESPN - Sources: Conflict bubbling between Terrell Owens, Tony Romo

According to multiple sources within the Dallas Cowboys, there is an emerging internal conflict involving three of the team's highest-profile stars.

As the preseason Super Bowl favorites struggle in the final month of the season to simply make the playoffs, wide receiver Terrell Owens has expressed resentment toward Tony Romo, apparently jealous of the quarterback's relationship with tight end Jason Witten.

Owens feels that Romo and Witten -- close friends and road roommates who came to Dallas in the same offseason -- hold private meetings in which they create plays the two will use in upcoming games without including Owens in the conversations, according to a source who speaks regularly with Owens' teammates. Owens believes these discussions have worked to his detriment as Romo seeks to deliver the ball to Witten regardless of whether Owens is open.

Is the Owens thing a shocker? It's about time he decided to throw Romo under the bus, Garcia and McNabb were starting to feel put out...

Glad to see Owens is showing that he is who we thought he was. I hope he tears the Cowboys apart the rest of the year.

In fairness, sometimes Portis is pretty absurd.

(He's not a troublemaker, but he has done some odd things now and then, from deciding not to play in preseason games, to his "characters", to the little dust-up with Brian Mitchell. I tend to like Portis, but he seems like the type that might be tricky for a coach to handle. Gibbs might have just let him do what he wanted; Zorn not as much, which could be part of the problem.)

Okay, that is a huge pet peave of mine. Thomas was already at least 5 yards into the end zone and the Bears' player tries to throw a hit on him. Just what are you trying to accomplish here? It wasn't a receiver who just caught the ball and you are trying to rip it out before he establishes control. It was a long run into the end zone and was already a touchdown 5 yards before you even got to him.

Sorry, that and the players who feel the need to dive on top of the pile after the runner is down just irk me for some reason, it just makes no logical sense to do it.

I see this wasn't mentioned but why did the Saints lose a timeout earlie on the challenge? Why should it have mattered if they got the first down of missed by a couple inches?

They challenged that the spot was wrong and it was wrong by a yard but they came up a couple inches shy of the first so they were charged a timeout. Sorry but if the challenge was "that spot is wrong" and the result of the challenge was "that spot was wrong" shouldn't it be considered a successful challenge. Even if it didn't give them the first it put them in easy QB sneak range for the first. That last short yardage attempt they missed should show just how important that extra yard may have been to them.

I agree 100%. I can't make any sense out of it.

Only thing I can think of is maybe there is a specific bylaw that addresses the specific situation and says you lose a timeout? To keep you from challenging not exact spots just so you can get a temporary reprieve?

There have been some bad calls up and down this game today, that was clearly pass interference in the end zone.

Ugh. Horrible non-Pass interference call forces the Bears to try to tie it up with a field goal.

+1

I realize the refs don't want to decide a game where 2 teams seasons are on the line but if that isn't pass interferience I'm not sure what is

Dola, seriously. A period of overtime ended with a makeup PI call (granted, not the worse PI call in the world, but the contact before the ball got there was minimal and he turned his head towards the ball and swated towards it), a kneel, and a FG. What a great way to end a competitive game!

Having a Drew Brees, Kurt Warner, Dan Marino, ect lose on the bench in that manner without a shot at having the ball in OT infuriates me to no end.
