Cool FOFC World Series

Welcome to the 2004 FOFC World Series, a baseball championship series to be battled out between teams managed by Chief Rum and Sterlingice using the APBA Master Game (a board game) and coordinated by myself.

The pace of the Series will be necessarily slow. There are many managerial decisions required throughout the game (examples would be pinch-hitting, sacrifices, steals, take an extra base, etc.), and while there are times when we’re all online together I expect that most of the time we will be moving slowly from batter to batter. Hopefully this will allow for some good commentary and strategy discussions, as well as appropriate amounts of good-natured smack talk.

Here are the rosters:

Chief Rum’s "Elitists" team

MR Power RHP = Hell Atlantic
SU Junk LHP setup = SirFozzie

Ok, guys, in preparation for the series we've got some film to watch:

And, we'll be going over the signs...

Mr. Burns: "I will touch my belt buckle not once, not twice, but thrice..."
Homer: Oh oh, I don't understand a word he's saying. Why doesn't he just let me bat? I wish I was home with a big bag of potato chips. Mmmm...potato chips.
Mr. Burns: "...swing for the fences. Got that, Simpson?"
Homer: "Yes, sir!"

Hattrickers Lineup Card

Ok, guys, here's the lineup card. Since they have fireballin' albionmoonlight out there and he's a righty, I've got a change to the lineup. Tucker Rocky gets to see the righty today in place of kingfc22. Other than that, we're set with the original plan. So, here's game one's starting lineup:

Hattrickers

CF Katon
2B Raven Hawk
LF ardent enthusiast
1B Coffee Warlord
RF Masked
3B JeeberD
C TargetPractice6
SS tucker rocky
P duckman

A flip of the ceremonial coin indicates that the Elitists have the home field advantage, so the first two will be at their field (2-3-2 rotation).

CR & SI, please name your fields.

Game Three Promo: Sharp Rocks!

Sharp Rocks Night!

Some teams have homer hankies and others have tomahawks, but, as every dedicated fan knows, we have our own famed promo. That's why, before Game 3, every fan wearing hattrick colors will get the famed "sharp rocks". So, if you attend Game Three at The Burning Pitch at Pinto Point (the official name of The Pitch; just guess who helped named it), you'll get this wonderful promotion which will help you show your support for the team.

This promotion is brought to you by the Jerome Bettis Foundation.

Alrighty...here we go!

It's a lovely afternoon here at Dodger Stadium for this opening game of the FOFC World Series. On the hill for the Elitists is albionmoonlight, coming off an outstanding season as perhaps the top right-hander in the game.

Leading off for the Hattrickers is centerfielder Katon, who's batting .270. He can be a real pest on the bases, so we'll see what he can do against albionmoonlight to start things off...

High fastball...popped in the air behind the plate...drifting back toward the screen is the catcher Huckleberry...and he's got it for out number one. Not an auspicious start for the Hattrickers.

In steps Raven Hawk, batting in the #2 slot and playing second. He's a .252 hitter but fares much better against righties...

...hard two-hopper to the shortstop Shorty3281 and it handcuffs him...he juggles...but makes a strong throw and gets Raven Hawk by a step. Two down.

Up comes Ardent Enthusiast, hitting .303 with some decent pop...

...he hits a come-backer to albionmoonlight, who snares it and lobs the ball to first. That's three up, three down, and we move to the bottom of the first.

Swaggs, the leftfielder hitting a healthy .313, leads off for the Elitists against duckman, another power right-hander with overpowering stuff.

Here's the pitch...defensive swing by Swaggs and he pops it into shallow left...coming in on the ball is Ardent...and he makes a routine catch. One out.

That'll bring up MrBug708, the centerfielder. He's hitting .264 but can handle the bat pretty well...

...hard rising fast ball, high and tight...AND IT NICKS MrBug! Duckman is offering a mild protest to the umpire, but it clearly got a piece of MrBug's upper arm, and he'll trot down to 1st as the game's first base-runner. He's not much of a threat to steal, and particularly with the power-hitting kcchief19 coming up, but we'll see what Chief Rum has in mind early on in this one...

[Chief, you could choose to attempt a steal, hit-and-run, or sacrifice if you wanted to. He'll go ahead and hit away if I don't hear otherwise relatively soon. SI, you're holding the runner of course.]
