IWS #87 Results
29 entries....same as last time! Not bad, not bad at all...
Anyhoo...here are the results: The questions: 1. Name an American City with a Population between 500,000 and 1,000,000. Detroit - 9 Washington DC - 4 San Francisco - 3 Austin - 2 New York - 2 Las Vegas - 2 Cleveland - 1 Fargo - 1 Minneapolis - 1 Boston - 1 Denver - 1 Indianapolis - 1 Pittsburgh - 1 Lots of good responses. I was surprised that Detroit started to pull away at the end. And there are 5 cities in here that don't fit the population criteria (New York, Cleveland, Fargo, Minneapolis, Pittsburgh) Was surprised that AUSTIN was mentioned twice. Austin and Detroit was on the Top 6. 2. Which of the below Best Picture Winners do you think was the greatest? Schindler's List - 11 The Silence of the Lambs - 7 Forrest Gump - 4 Rain Man - 4 Braveheart - 3 American Beauty - 0 A Beautiful Mind - 0 Schindler and Silence took the majority of the votes, but interestingly was not an eliminator question, as a Rain Man and Gump voter were in the Top 6. 3. Where would you dread going to the most (from the choices below)? Dentist's Office - 10 Funeral - 6 Doctor's Office - 5 Mother-In-Law's - 3 Bridal Shower - 3 Tax Attorney's Office - 2 Amazing how the Dentist Office is still a dreaded destination. Pretty much led all the way, although Funeral gained steam late. Top score had Dentist's Office, as did 4 of the next 6. 4. Name a Daryl Hall and John Oates song. Maneater - 13 Private Eyes - 4 Out of Touch - 3 Do It For Love - 2 Method of Modern Love - 1 Did It in a Minute - 1 Sunshine - 1 ??? She's Gone - 1 You Make My Dreams - 1 Sara Smile - 1 Lazy Man - 1 ??? This one was almost too easy, as Maneater ran away from the pack early. And was an eliminator question, with 8 of the Top 10 responders picking that tune. But a late entry that ended up winning the whole thing with a different song spoiled that theory. And no Rich Girl or Say It Isn't So? 5. Where will Sammy Sosa ultimately rank in the All-Time Career Home Run Leaders? (He's currently 8th). 4th -12 5th - 11 6th - 2 8th - 2 3rd - 1 1st - 1 Had to have 4th or 5th to compete. In fact, one contestants answer of 6th cost him the title. 6. Name a Cable TV station that doesn't have ESPN in the title. CNN - 11 MTV - 6 HBO - 3 TBS - 2 TNT - 1 Golf Channel - 1 Fox News - 1 NFL Network - 1 Comcast - 1 ??? Comedy Central - 1 ESPN - 1 (Yes, someone put this one down.) This actually became the true elimination question, as the Top 4 scores all had CNN. Someone's answer of Golf Channel instead of any of the Top 3 also cost him the title. C'est la vie. It looks like Detroit had over 1 million in the 1990 census, but fell below in the 2000 census.
