Exclamation FOFC All-Time NFL Challenge Round 1 - Team VI vs. Team VIII

Which team would win head-to-head, with all of the players in their prime?

Team VI:

Coach: Vince Lombardi (26)
QB: Johnny Unitas (101)
RB: Marshal Faulk (28)
FB: Jim Brown (106)
WR: Jerry Rice (411)
WR: Art Monk (1)
TE: Todd Christensen
C: Jim Ringo (7)
G: Tom Mack (7)
G: Jerry Kramer (1)
T: Roosevelt Brown (5)
T: Ron Mix (7)
K: Jan Stenurud (26)
P: Reggie Roby (7)
Ret: Eric Metcalf (7)
ST: Gary Fencik (1)
DL: Dan Hampton (32)
DL: Steve McMichael (17)
DL: Richard Dent (52)
DL: William Perry (68)
LB: Wilber Marshall (51)
LB: Otis Wilson (1)
LB: Willie Lanier (11)
CB: Mel Renfro (16)
CB: Cornell Green (1)
S: Pat Fischer (1)
S: Dave Duerson (2)

Offense:
Jim Brown (#1 all-time player), Unitas (a top QB all-time), and Rice (#2 all-time, & #1 WR) anchor the offense, led by the greatest coach, Lombardi. Faulk is probably the greatest combined yards back ever. Monk complements Rice. Christensen’s YPC is one of the highest for TE. The offensive line has Hall of Famers Ringo (Lombardi: “best in the league… quick and smart."), Mack (“one of the most honored of all Rams”), Mix (“The Intellectual Assassin”), Roosevelt Brown (“could do something few tackles (can) – pull and lead”) and Ringo’s teammate, Pro Bowler Kramer. Stenerud is the only pure HoF placekicker.

Defense:
The defense is anchored by arguably the best front 7 ever to play together: the 1985 Bears, which earned praise from Steelers defensive coordinator Bud Carson (1972-77): "At that time, I had never seen anything like the advantage the Bears enjoyed.” HoFer Willie Lanier (respected for his ability to track down and devastate ball carriers with his forceful tackles) takes Singletary’s place. HoF CB Renfro and Cowboys partner Cornell Green (a 5-time Pro Bowler), combined for one of the greatest secondaries in NFL history. Fischer is an all-time INT leader. The Dolphins’ Roby was known for his booming punts.

===============

Team VIII:

Coach: Marty Schottenheimer (20)
QB: Brett Favre (75)
RB: Eric Dickerson (100)
FB: Larry Centers (20)
WR: Herman Moore (25)
WR: Andre Rison (25)
TE: Shannon Sharpe (73)
C: Dermontii Dawson (50)
G: Will Shields (20)
G: Larry Allen (50)
T: Orlando Pace (50)
T: Tony Boselli (50)
K: Tom Dempsey (35)
P: Darren Bennett (20)
Ret: Woody Dantzler (1)
ST: Steve Tasker (44)
DL: Bruce Smith (80)
DL: Tim Krumrie (40)
DL: Kabeer Gbaja-Biamila (1)
LB: Chuck Bednarik (40)
LB: Cornelius Bennett (13)
LB: Brian Urlacher (55)
LB: Chris Spielman (13)
CB: Eric Allen (40)
CB: Shawn Springs (20)
S: David Fulcher (20)
S: Darren Woodson (20)

Offense:
Marty likes to run the ball, and Dickerson will haul the rock. But Brett Favre will throw to an impressive cast when he needs to. Centers is the most prolific receiving back of all-time. Herman Moore set the record (at the time) for most catches in a season, and Rison ranks with the best WRs statistically. Sharpe had some monster seasons and has ample Super Bowl experience. Each of the offensive linemen are consistent Pro Bowlers. Dempsey and tasker are all-time classics.

Defense:
Krumrie anchors the middle for Smith and KGB to run rampant. The linebackers are tough, tough, tough, with Bednarik, Urlacher, and Spielman knocking people silly and Bennett running them down. The DBs were all aces at the top of their game.
