Tiger Beware V: T.W. PGA Tour, Master Level
Welcome to the Master level in Tiger Woods PGA Tour '03.
Read as T.E. Almighty (maybe) goes down in flames against the golfing world masters. Suck-up to T.E. as he tries to get the millions upon millions he needs to raise his attributes to 125. Cringe with T.E. as he tries to thwart Tiger time and time again in major events. Comment on the greatness that is... Tiger Beware V: T.W. PGA Tour. View T.E.'s history at: T.E. the Champion T.E. the Tour Player T.E. the Pro T.E. the Amateur And now for some hopefully competitive events...

Okie, dokie. Here we go. Let's see what's what.
To recap, all my attributes are at 100. They can now go up to 125, but it costs $500,000 to raise an attribute a single point. The $1 million that raised me 20 points last level now is good for only 2 points. Let's get to the tee box...

That sucked. I could not get anything close with the wind howling.
For the record, if you have not played, strong winds are the worst in the game. The winds are in the 30 mph range at the strong level. Also, we will watch Tiger closely. This may be the level where he starts to win all the events.

A strong finish got us the win. Again, Tiger was the main competition.
We may be in a spot where partner is key. I don't think I can win much, if ever, anymore by carrying a team on my shoulders. Without Calcavecchia, I would not have won. He played GREAT and carried the team on several holes, having only a few really shitty holes where I had to be careful not to screw-up because he was out of the play early (in the past, that occured on 50% of the holes).

Looks like you've finally run across a challenge as opposed to just blowing everyone away every event.

It does, indeed, SI. As much as I hate to lose at anything, I would say the 'thrill' was pretty much gone with the 20 shot victory margins and all.
Now, I have to work my ass off- and get lucky sometimes- to win.

Don't take this the wrong way, but I'm happy to see that you are finally running into someone that can beat you. I started playing a career and was having a riduculously easy time of things at the first level. I figured it would get harder as I moved up, but your dynasty convinced me that it wouldn't be much more difficult as I moved up the ranks. I've been waiting to see how things turn out for you. This is good news. I'm thinking to start up my career again. |

GB, I understand exactly what you mean. It was getting boring to play, so I can imagine how boring it is to read.
Why come see the thread when you know what will happen and that it will not even be an interesting victory. If I was you, and I'm not, I would 'POWER' win my way through every level until you get a challenge, which for anyone with any skill, will be Master.

If I had to make a guess, I would say this is Tiger Woods PGA golf game. He does not mess up anymore at this level, apparently. Kickin' ass in Master level like T.E. used to in all other levels.

I BEAT TIGER at SOMETHING.
Even beating him, look at my scores for the holes. If I had not been incredibly 'ON' he would have won. He still made 0 mistakes. I was just better today.

The key to my winning, it would seem, is the wind velocity of the event.
If the wind is gusty or strong, I am in trouble unless the greens are very wet so I can stop the ball. Also, it doesn't say, that I know, but I wonder if the pin placement is always 'difficult' at Master level? The pins seem to constantly be close to the fringe, ie, no margin for error.

Attributes
I guess about $25 million in the bank is a good time to raise the attributes, though $25 million just doesn't buy what it did, back in the day when we had to walk 20 miles to school in the snow with hand-me-down, holey shoes, uphill both ways.
Cost: $22,500,000 Bankroll: $2,216,658

I have an idea for others. How about you must keep your attributes at the minimum for each level until you have enough money to go to maximum. It seems the bump in attributes (like to 110) may make the difference between 3rd and 1st? As it is, you are already in the top 3 golfers at this level. If you were mid-pack and having to work your way up, then it would be called challenging.

Bucc, unless you really suck (not you personally, but you as a generic Tiger golf game player) I don't see that mattering in any level. I, at least, kicked ass right off the bat.
That is, until the Master. I think your idea would indeed make for a more challenging time at Master level. Wish you had said that a bit earlier.

Cink and Singh made one bogey, and it cost them the match. If we had made the bogey, they would have won.
Everything is very tight. The computer players rarely make a mistake. If you do mess up, you will probably lose. If you play flawlessly, you have a chance to win, but still may not (at least if Tiger is in the competition).

Obviously, I carried the team most of the round, which was surprising because gusty or higher winds often mess me up.
I don't know who Tiger's partner was, but I guess even Tiger can't carry a team by himself every round. Thank God.

Vijay was the only competition and he didn't win a thing. After the first hole, Parnevik was truly bad. He was constantly hitting 80 or 90 yard wedges and coming up with 50 foot putts out of it. Stricker was never in a hole the entire time.

Sorry to be on a good streak. I know it gets weary/boring to see T.E. winning too much. Hopefully for viewership and interest, I will play worse and/or Tiger will come back on a non-Royal Birkdale course.
Still waiting for a Driving competition against Tiger. Maybe I will go to the driving range and try to get a $10 million winner take all match or something.

Tiger and Tim Herron beat me again, though this one was closer. Parnevik and I each missed a makeable putt on 18 that would have given US the 1 point win. Not to be.

BTW, we are over halfway to the $40 million or so we need to max out our attributes at 125.
Remember, we are trying to add a bit of a handicap (though, admittedly not much of one at this point) as suggested by Bucc a bit ago by waiting until we have all the cash needed to raise attributes the rest of the way.

Because of waning interest due in part to the ease of play, and info I have obtained, I am now ready to expedite the dynasty.
I don't mean I am inventing scores, but that I have played this out and am reporting briefly on results instead of taking time to write it up as before. And now, for the rest of the story...

4-man Scramble
On April 16th, T.E. entered a 4-man scramble at St. Andrews Golf Links. With only breezy winds and normal greens, we expected a favorable outcome.
Partners were Colin Montgomerie, Justin Leonard and Mark O'Meara. Opponents were Andrew Magee, Billy Mayfair, Billy Andrade and Bernhard Langer. Purse was $50 million, meaning each member of the winning team would get in excess of $10 million. It became immediately obvious that this would be a joke. By the end of 5 holes, our team was ahead by 8 shots as the opponents could not even break par with 4 men playing best ball. It got worse!!! The lead grew on almost every hole. By the end, we had won by a ridiculous 23 shots, with the opposing group finishing over par. Pitiful and way to easy. It is interesting to note that for the first time ever, MOST of the good shots were made by our teammates, as T.E. had a poor day. Winners pocket $10,716,037 each. Career Earnings stand at $62,616,850. Bankroll is now $33,048,028

4-man scramble, part 2
On April 18th, T.E. entered another 4-man scramble at Colonial in Ft. Worth, Texas, where T.E. grew up. Winds were strong, not to our liking, but greens were wet to even it out a bit.
Partners were Notah Begay III, Ty Tryon and Vijay Singh. Opponents were, once again, Andrew Magee, Billy Mayfair, Billy Andrade and Bernhard Langer. Strange, but maybe they won't suck this time. Purse was $68 million, meaning each member of the winning team would in the neighborhood of $15 million. Not much changed. They still sucked, and once again ended the match OVER par. Our score was not as good, with the wind and all, but still we won by 17 shots. BBoorriinngg... Winners pocket $14,573,809 each. Career Earnings stand at $77,190,659. Bankroll is now $47,620,837 BTW, for losing by 17 and shooting +@ in a best ball match, the losers still got $2.4 million or so each.

With that win, we now had the $40 million needed to raise all attributes to the MAX, which was 125, and go to the Qualifying Tournament, to take on Tiger for real.
On to the endgame.

Qualifying Tournament Details
The Q-Tournament at MAster level is a 4 day affair with a full field of 146 players, stroke play.
It is played at St. Andrews Golf Links with a purse of $100,000,000. Unfortunately for everyone, in the Career Mode format, with attributes at 125, St. Andrews is actually the EASIEST course, maybe, of all for me. T.E. can drive half (or so) of the par 4s, so it was an unwelcome thing to see the place to play the penultimate tourney. I hope to shoot, for the 4 rounds, around 48 UNDER and am sure to kick all ass. Too bad.

Round 1, April 25th
Greens: normal
Rough: heavy Winds: gusty Good conditions for T.E., if not perfect. Round one was actually T.E.'s best of the tourney. By the turn at #9, he was in first place and on his way, with only one bogey and 3 eagles for the round. LEADERBOARD Place Player Today Almighty shot a 57.

Round 2
More of the same. Tiger made a charge, but he wasn't charging at T.E., but at the rest of the field for 2nd place.
Only 3 pars on the round, with 1 bogey and 1 eagle. LEADERBOARD

Round 3
The highlight of the round, besides getting it over with, was a 24 yard birdie putt on 15. That, and not making a bogey.
Tiger begins to separate himself from the rest for 2nd place, and announcer David Feherty shoots the best round of the day besides T.E. with 7 under. LEADERBOARD Place Player Today Totals

Final Round
Another bogey-free round. Yipee!!!
T.E. shattered the -48 that he set as a goal. He could have done a bit better, but by that time it was just "address, swing, walk..." with little desire to play for any greatness or anything. LEADERBOARD- FINAL

Qualifying Tournament Wrap-Up
Final Results:
Player Round 1 Round 2 Round 3 Round 4 Totals I believe that is called "kicking people's asses." Obviously, this was not even enjoyable, winning by 36 shots in what is supposed to be a battle. For the record, we won $12,597,853, but it doesn't matter, as you will see.

End Game
We are treated to a video, at the end of which it says "Career Mode Master."
Then we get a screen that tells us... Congratulations, you have COMPLETED Career Mode. Thank you for playing career mode in Tiger Woods PGA Tour 2003. I DIDN"T realize that was the end. I was expecting to go on a tour or something, but it is done. If you go to the career to look at the calendar or something, it tells you the career is over and do something else.
