Wu-Tang Clan rapper Ol' Dirty Bastard died on Saturday (November 13) in New York, according to his spokesperson.

Sources close to ODB (whose real name was Russell Jones) said he had been complaining of chest pains earlier in the

day.

A statement was released Saturday evening by ODB's mother, Cherry Jones. "This evening I received a phone call that is every mother's worst dream," she said. "My son, Russell Jones, passed away. To the public, he was known as Ol' Dirty Bastard. To me, he was known as Rusty, the kindest and most generous soul on earth. I appreciate all the support I received. Russell was more than a rapper — he was a loving father, brother, uncle and most of all, son. With love, Cherry Jones.

MTV News will have more on this story as it develops.

That sucks. But I have a killer headache and am not in the best mood right now so I will ask the "asshole" question. You think Momma gets 100x as rich as she was now, like Tupac and Notorious B.I.G.'s mother;s?

I lean towards yes, and I see no problem with it I guess.

Doubtful. Tupac and Biggie were much, much bigger and had bigger hit$. Plus, Wu-Tang's money had to go 9 different ways, I'm sure.

"In February 1998, he crashed the stage at the Grammy Awards and hijacked a microphone from singer Shawn Colvin as she accepted an award, apparently upset over losing the best rap album Grammy to P. Diddy (then known as Puff Daddy)."

It's times like these that I wish I didn't completely block rap out of my music consciousness. Of course, the reaction is completely warranted considering who beat him. Even I would have been pissed if the Black Sinatra beat me out for best rap album.

I especially love the part in 'Got Your Money' where he goes 'NUH!'

It's a sound that only he could make so well. Brooklyn Zoo.

The part of that story that truely made it classic ODB was when he complained that he spent a lot of money on his suit because he thought he was going to win.

NEW YORK — The death of rapper O.D.B. was deemed an accident by the medical examiner, who said Wednesday that he died from the combined effects of cocaine and a prescription painkiller.

O.D.B., whose legal name was Russell Jones, died at a Manhattan recording studio Nov. 13 "as a result of intoxication" by cocaine and the painkiller Tramadol, said Ellen Borakove, a spokeswoman for the New York City medical examiner's office.
