We have 29 for IWS 29. Barely an hour left to turn in an entry. The kickoff of the Super Bowl is the absolute deadline at which point I will be doublechecking and then posting the results.

Deadline is here. 30 participants and now to tabulate the results.
Results are being doublechecked and formatted but this will take a while as I am preoccupied with some game which I cannot refer to by name but I think it's Super and Bowl-like in appearance. SI

Bookkeeping
We had 30 participants total. I double checked everyone's entries so I hope there are no clerical errors but if there are, message me. I don't think any one entry will change the winner but it will affect some entries lower down. Answers The questions basically broke down with 4 you had to get right and then the last two, you needed to get one of the top couple of answers for a respectable score. 1. Name a continent 23 North America 2 Africa 2 America 1 Asia 1 Europe 1 Australia We have more North Americans here than I figured. Clearly that bias shows up in the next couple of answers. I do find it ironic that a couple of continents lost out to a wrong answer (America) 2. Name a river 23 Mississippi 4 Nile 2 Amazon 1 Danube Again, I figured the Nile and Amazon would have more representation. The Danube answer will make sense later. 3. Name an Ocean 21 Atlantic 8 Pacific 1 Indian The Indian answer will also make sense later. I thought there would be more representation from the west coast. I figured this would be close to a 50-50 split but I was wrong. 4. Name one of the Great Lakes 19 Michigan 4 Superior 4 Erie 1 Huron 1 Ontario 1 Hudson Six great lakes? Oh wait, the Hudson isn't a great lake I thought Superior would be a bit more represented because of the name. 5. Name a country in Africa not named Egypt or South Africa 9 Nigeria 6 Kenya 5 Ethiopia 3 Libya 1 Zimbabwe 1 Morocco 1 Ivory Coast 1 Algeria 1 Tunisia 1 Somalia 1 Egypt This one was all about momentum. Libya and Kenya started strong but Nigeria came on strong including 5 of the last 7 to take it all. Someone said Egypt . 6. Name a US state with 7 letters in its name other than New York 15 Florida 6 Alabama 3 Georgia 3 Arizona 1 Montana 1 Indiana 1 Nevada Florida and Alabama started out 3-3 but then the more populous one took over from the earliest alphabetical one. N-E-V-A-D-A . And The Winner Is... For the longest time, Marmel and vtbub were going back and forth with the lead depending on the other answers. However, with the last entries came a completely change as Nigeria and Florida pulled away. Not only that but the last three entries all ended in the top 5. Your IWS 29 winner was the last entry today who got in only about an hour before the end and he had a perfect score to boot: #1 Joe Canadian 28494585 100.0% #2 Maple Leafs 15830325 55.6% #3 vtbub 11397834 40.0% #4 Masked 10855080 38.1% #5 Marmel 9498195 33.3% Also, honorable mention to ColtCrazy who (likely intentionally) filled out a great "Make Mine Rare" entry and got 1's across the board with correct answers (Australia, Danube, Indian, Huron, Tunisia, Indiana). Complete results can be seen here (the spacing is a little messed up but no big deal): http://www.sunflower.com/~sterlingice/IWS29.htm Anyone needing the spreadsheet (both worksheets- only one is shown here): just message me. SI

Bloody hell... I finally do well on one of these, and I get beaten out by some mysterious last second entry. And a Newf, to boot!
If I run him over with my car, do I get to hold the next contest? |

Yeah, I knew Nevada only had six letters, I was only seeing how closely you were paying attention. Yeah, that's it...

I was sure Alabama would be at the top. After all, it's first alphabetically.

Me, too - I was quite sure that would be the case. I didn't have any particular way to come up with a Great Lake, and really expected it to be close, perhaps among Superior, Michigan, and Erie (not exactly sure why those three). I did not see a Michigan runaway coming... maybe a Chicago bias? (I thought, if anything, we'd have an Ohio bias) |

totally intentional. I took it as one of those tests in college where the prof would give you an A if you missed every single question. I may have got thumped like the Raiders, but my one's across the board look cool.
Congrats JoeC |

Subject? Is this compulsory? ;)
Thanks for pointing out my stupid answers (If it's in the game, it's in the game).
I'm disapointed to see people are already cheating to get into my (last) place, shame on you!
