You know, it's sad, I never understood how betting on football works. I understand the point spread thing. But how does it pay out?

I have a feeling that it will be Manning.

Where to begin...

In a normal NFL type spread (-/+) you'll generally get a return of -110 , meaning that if you bet 50 on either side, you'll get back $45.45 in return if you win. The bookmakers (the real winners in all of sports gambling) generally get 10% of the bet, no matter what side its on (pretty nice huh?). Then again, they pretty much are at the mercy of every better, and if everyone plays one side, they can really get burned if it works out for the public.

In this case, its a futures bet, you can do this for any type of action. From who you think will win the Democratic Primary, to who's going to win the heisman.

Currently, its 6-1 that White will win the heisman, meaning you gotta bet 6 bucks to win 1. Its 1-3 for both Fitzgerald and Manning, meaning you gotta bet 1 buck to win 3. And its 1-28 that Perry will win it, meaning you'll get 28 bucks for every 1 you put up.

I think everything being equal, both players are very deserving of the award (White, and Fitzgerald). Everyone is being harsh towards White for having a poor game in the biggest game of the year for the Sooners (the big 12 championship game obviously).

People seem to forget that Fitzgerald had a poor game in the Miami game, the biggest game of the year for him. Granted, its hard when the QB doesn't throw you the ball, but still, he didn't put up good numbers in that game.

Bingo, you have to have the ball thrown to you if you want to put up big numbers. Rutherford didn't look at Larry all night.

Is there really any need for this to be a 2 hour show?

Same here. My wife was watching and close to 7:00, I went upstairs to see who won. Then we both found out that it goes on for another hour. Forget that. No need to see the same highlights and 45 minutes of commercials when I can read who won later. Except for some games, sports on TV really sucks.

They should just show every game each finalist played this season and turn it into a week long show.

They are now talking about the Heisman's social significance in the Vietnam War, assination of JFK, and various other historical events. While I'm all for a review of history, does the Heisman really have this much importance in the fabric of America as they are saying on the show. I think not. It is an award - a prestigous award, but just an athletic award. It doesn't signify that the person is a great American or a great person. I like history, but the Heisman is not relevant on the grand historical level that the show is attempting to propose. I find it insulting to war heroes when they compare Heisman to a purple heart or other signs of valor. I've watched this far, so I will watch the end, but this show is really annoying me.

Dola (maybe)

Although I almost don't care anymore after this two hour event and the long thanking of all of the Heisman's corporate sponsors, I stayed through til the end.

Congrats to Jason White, although I think Fitzgerald should have won.
