Shooting at the Houston airport

A guy walked in, reportedly fired an AR-15 into the air, then killed himself when confronted by an air marshal.

Sooo, has this been called a government plot to get assault rifles banned yet or do we need to wait a few more hours for that?

It's sad that people walking into public places with weapons like this & opening fire is getting common enough that it's not even shocking any more.

Thankfully, this moron doesn't appear to have wanted to do anything but make noise. Could have been a lot worse.

Now we can hear the NRA yap about how this proves that arming people saves lives. (They will ignore that he could have killed a lot of people if he wanted to, but facts aren't really important when you rake in the money they do.)

Let's not take into account most people aren't carrying guns into airports due to security, etc...

Not sure if it is at all related, but the NRA is having a national convention in Houston next week.

It looks like it was indeed a suicide-by-cop situation.

Hearing the gunfire, a Homeland Security Investigations agent came out of his office and confronted Moore, ordering him to put down the gun.

When Moore refused the command, the officer pulled out his weapon and the man turned toward him.

I hope this is incorrectly stated, as if you are a member of Homeland Security and you see a guy in an airport with an AR-15 (regardless of whether he has fired it or not) you should have your gun drawn. Ordering someone to put it down with your gun away? Could have been really, really bad here. Lucky this guy just wanted to die.

It is a bit strange that the guy drove all the way from Beaumont to the IAH airport. It is about 100 miles. Must have had some meaning or significance to him.

The more that comes out about the story the more sad and baffling it is. His dad said he was employed and didn't have a record. There's really nothing that makes you say "he's going to go to an airport for a death by cop".
