All-Time Best Baseball Franchise Challenge
Using a program I just found called SBS, a free simulator that can be found at http://www.sbs-baseball.com, I plan on running a season to see what is the "best" team of all-time. To do so, I have picked each franchise's most winning team based on winning percentage, and placed them in the 2004 schedule.
The team's are: Anaheim 2002 (99-63) Arizona 1999 (100-62) Atlanta 1996 (106-56) Baltimore 1969 (109-53) Boston 1946 (104-50) Chicago N 1906 (116-36) Chicago A 1917 (100-54) Cincinnati 1975 (108-54) Cleveland 1954 (111-43) Colorado 1997 (83-79) Detroit 1934 (101-53) Houston 1998 (102-60) Kansas City 1977 (102-60) Los Angeles 1953 (105-49) Milwaukee 1982 (95-67) Minnesota 1965 (102-60) New York N 1986 (108-54) New York A 1927 (110-44) Oakland 1931 (107-45) Philadelphia 1977 (101-61) Pittsburgh 1902 (103-36) San Diego 1998 (98-64) San Francisco 1904 (106-47) Seattle 2001 (116-46) St. Louis 1942 (106-48) Tampa Bay 2004 (70-91) Texas 1999 (95-67) Toronto 1985 (99-62) Washington 1994 (74-40) Now, I've never used SBS before, so I don't know how well it will simulate cross-era games but I guess we'll find out. I already see some limitations, such as the fact I can't select 4 or 5-man rotations based on team, it has to be a league-wide setting. I will be managing the 1986 Mets manually throughout the season, so I will post every time we play a game, along with various other goings on around the league. |

Yes, the 85 Jays won more games then the 92 or 93 Jays did, but give us one of our world series championship teams...prefferably 93

Yeah, I'd definitely concur with using a WS Jays team over the 85 version. Be nice to see WAMCO in action again for sure.

Well, I finished my first game but I'm just having a ton of trouble trying to get the box score to align when I post it. It looks fine in Word but as soon as I cut and paste it here, I can't get it look right, even with the code tags. Can't get standings or stats to work right either and without that, this dynasty could fade very quickly. If anyone has a suggestion as to how I can get it to look good, I'm all ears, because I think this one will be interesting to follow.

Is the output straight text? If so, pop it in a text editor like Notepad (or something more powerful like Textpad or UltraEdit), line up the columns, then stick the info between "code" tags.

Yeah, that's what I tried doing, but it wasn't working right.
For instance: Code:
I guess it's not too bad, so if people don't mind trying to decipher it, I'll continue posting. Last edited by lcjjdnh : 05-30-2005 at 11:28 PM. |

I assume this is what you were going for?
Code:
If so, I can see now why it's a PITA. It's because the box output puts all the special stats to the right rather than listing out below the main box. |

That box score has quite possibly my two least favorite teams in history, so its going to be painful to read no matter how its formatted

That box score looks good, how'd you get it to line up well like that.

A lot of hand-editing. Is that the only way the box score can be arranged on output?

Yeah, you don't really have much option when it comes out. I print the whole file of box scores and it goes to notepad, so I tried using Word and Wordpad to see if that improved it, but no help.
