2005 has passed in the NFL and as I read the paper, something gets me thinking... the Raiders. Watching them growing up as a kid and loving the way Marcus Allen played the game, I notice the last winning season they had was in 2002 when they won the division at 11-5. Oakland would go to the Super Bowl that year, but Tampa Bay was too much as they layed a whipping on the Raiders, 48-21.
The next 3 seasons would find the Raiders winning only 13 games, and finishing last in the AFC West all 3 years. Last year, they went 0-6 in the division and 2-10 in the Conference. As the 2006 season was gearing up, Oakland still did not have a GM and I pondered what I could do to get them back to prominance and another Super Bowl ring.... Everything is on defaults, except for the difficulty, which will be at Wall Street. This is going to be more of a quick sim dynasty, so lower injuries are fine with me. I'm also using Yabanci's great 2006 roster set and I'll also use his 2007 draft file. Thanks Yabanci! |

I arrive in Oakland and since they didn't hire a GM (me) until the last minute, I have to start the season with what's in place.
I pull up our Franchise Value: Stadium: 62 (Good) Roster: 2 (Poor) Support: 25 (Fair) Economy: 51 (Good) All I'm really worried about right now is our roster and I see it needs ALOT of work. |

I get an email from the owner and in red it says, 23,100 season tickets sold out of 63,100 seats.
The fans have been very unhappy for the past 3 years and it's going to get worse before it gets better. As I pull up the preseason roster for 2006, I see we have 69 players currently. Time to get down to work. |

As I'm deciphering the roster, in walks this years staff.
First off is our scout, Dave Carswell. Dave is 40 years old and has a 3 year contract @ $380,000. I take a quick glance at his reputation. Not that impressive, but there's not much I can do about that now. |

Next up, the coordinators.
Our DC is 40 year old Dan Goodwin. This is the last year on Dan's contract @ $1,400,000. His reputation: Decent, but again.. I'm not impressed with his resume. Our OC is 65 year old Adam Peterman. Adam has a 5 year, $2,460,000 contract. Looking over his resume, I really like what I'm seeing.. finally. VG with QB's - very nice as I'm sure we'll be looking for one heading into the 2007 draft next year. Wow, and we have this guy for 5 years.. one less decision I have to make here. I call him into my offense and tell him I look foward to working with him in the years to come and that I vow to get him an offense to work with. |

The Head Coach, Les Houshmandzadeh walks in and right away I ask him if he's releated to the Bengals WR, TJ Houshmandzadeh. He smiles and says, with a last name like that you know we're related somehow.
(Actually turns out he's TJ's uncle) Les is signed for 3 years @ $3,370,000 and although he's very inexperienced, I like his reputation. With him and our OC, together they should flourish once I get an offense in place. I also love his injury avoidance rating. Nice, all I need to possibly work on next year is a scout and a DC. We'll see. |

We are dead last in preseason Power Ratings, which is no surprise. Cincinnati tops the charts heading into exhibition.

Houston drafted RDE Mario Williams #1 in the 2006 draft and he looks like he'll be a solid player on defense for years to come. The Raiders drafted SS Michael Huff at #7 in the draft and he looks to be a very smart and athletic player. WR Terrell Owens is listed as the fastest player in the NFL, blazing a 4.28 time in the 40 yard dash. No Raiders are listed. LG Edwin Mulitalo of the Ravens is listed as the strongest player in the league. No Raiders are listed. Time to cut this roster down and make any necessary moves in preparation for the exhibition season. |

QB Aaron Brooks and WR Randy Moss do not get along and I make the decision to cut Brooks. For this team to succeed, I still believe Moss needs to be a big part of it. Arizona State 2nd year QB Andrew Walter is going to get the chance to show me something this year. I sign QB Jesse Palmer to compete against Walter. We currently have no red players on our team. |

We are lean just about everywhere and this 1st year will tell us which direction I take as I start to mold this team to my style.
As we head into the exhibition season, many questions surround the Raiders. We have so many glaring weaknesses and I can't wait until this season is over and we build for future seasons. |

We beat San Diego to start the season and I'm a little shocked at the 3-5 start to the season. We are nearly last on a bunch of team statistics, but overall I believe we are playing better than we are.
WR Randy Moss is #3 is receptions and #6 in yards so far this year. MLB Kirk Morrison is #3 in tackles with 68. |

As we begin the 2nd half of the season, what have I learned about this team so far?
QB Walter Andrew has showed signs that he can make it in the NFL. He's had 2 games where his rating jumped over 100 - Game 1 vs San Diego (119.8) and Game 8 vs Seattle where he was (24-35, 266 yds, 3 TD, 0 INT) for a rating of 119.5. Our running game is horrible and we are ranked #11 by Football Outsiders for adjusted line yards, so a RB is definitly on my short list. We are #32 in rushing offense. We are #18 in passing offense. We are #28 in rushing defense. We are #23 in passing defense. With all that said, I'm pretty happy right now with the state of this team. We will have plenty of $$$ next year for FA and should get a top 10 pick. |

What are you thinking about targeting with all that cap and good pick (assuming you don't get on a hot streak)? RB? BTW, how is LaMont doing, is he getting the bulk of the carries and just not performing?

When I started this dynasty it was all about getting a franchise QB. I'm not too sure I won't go that direction in the draft, but Andrew has been pretty impressive at times - which is great and would definitly have me leaning towards a RB. 32nd in the league in rushing is horrible. LaMont is getting the bulk of the carries, but DeJuan Green has been getting the ball quite a bit as well. |

Well, going in to the last game of the season, we face the (9-6) NY Jets. A team that was fighting for a playoff spot. We are sitting at (7-8) and a loss wouldn't hurt my draft part of my brain.
We play our best game of the season and win 24-0. QB Andrew Walter has his best game of the season:
QB Chad Pennington is out for the season, and that helped the Raiders hold the Jets to 188 total yards. If you would have told me we'd be (8-8) at the end of this season, I would laugh out loud. I'm not happy about our draft position, but I can't complain on what we accomplished as a team this year. I think cutting Aaron Brooks really energized this team. We finished 2nd in our division, quite an accomplishment on a season with no expectations. I have a ton of decisions to make starting right now. Last edited by MizzouRah : 01-24-2007 at 08:50 PM. |

I will say I'm quite impressed with Buffalo's season. They couldn't get past the Chargers, but they gave them all they had.

2006 Super Bowl
Dallas Cowboys (12-7) Dallas is led by the #2 rusher in the NFL, Julius Jones. Jones ran for 1677 yards and scored 14 TDs. QB Drew Bledsoe threw for 3356 yards, 21 TDs, and 9 INTs. His favorite target, Terrell Ownes, caught 82 passes for 1250 yards and 8 TDs. On defense, Terence Newman showed why he is one of the best CBs in the league with 7 INTs. DE Marcus Spears had 12 sacks in only his second year in the league, quite impressive. San Diego Chargers (12-6-1) San Diego is led by 3rd year QB Philip Rivers. Rivers threw for 3216 yards, with 26 TDs and 9 INTs. RB LaDainian Tomlinson rushed for 944 yards and 9 TDs before tearing his ACL in week 11 and will be out for at least antoher 19 weeks. WR Keenan McCardell caught 71 passes for 894 yards and 4 TDs. The defense is led by SS Bhawoh Jue. Jue led the team with 89 tackles and 39 assists. Line: San Diego (-6) Injuries: Dallas Code:

Not only do I think the Cowboys will win, but the 6 points really makes this an easy pick. San Diego has too many injuries and the Cowboys have beaten some good teams thus far in the playoffs. |

Halftime
Well, so far San Diego has proved me wrong. Philip Rivers has thrown the only TD and the Cowboys need to come out in the 2nd half and continue running the ball and try to get Terrell Owens involved. San Diego has the worst defense in the league, but in the most important game of the year, they are bending, but not breaking. The second half should be good. CB Tyrone Poole is our only retiree and he played in a backup role last year.
Staff Hiring Even though our scout still has 2 years left on his contract, I decide to give Bruce Samuels a call and make him an offer of $380,000 for 3 years. He's much better in most key positions than our current scout who is making $390,000 per year. I thought our defensive coordinator did a good job this year, but I make a run at Green Bay's defensive coordinator last year, Percy McNeil. I offer him $2,460,000 for 3 years. Income Statement The Raiders turn a $6,590,000 profit last year and as I look at our stadium information everything looks great except for the parking lot, which is just in "average" condition. Making some calls, the best bid we get is for $23,000,000 to renovate the parking lot. I decide to hold off this year as I don't want to ask for money right off the bat as the new GM.
