National League Names Rookie of Month
Wednesday, May 1st, 1907: Vin Campbell's eyes seem to light up whenever he sees the baseball. The young New York center fielder has been hitting everything in sight for the better part of a month. In April he was voted the Rookie of the Month Award. During the month he hit .420 with 7 doubles, 2 triples and 1 home run. Campbell also scored 22 times and drove in 11 runs. AL Selects Rookie Star of the Month Wednesday, May 1st, 1907: Chicago's Joe Jackson collected 46 hits to snare the American League Rookie of the Month for April. He batted .397 with 2 home runs, 22 RBIs and 25 runs scored. The 17-year-old is barely old enough to shave, but he could definitely contend for Rookie of the Year if he keeps up this pace. Mullin Takes NL #1 Pitcher Trophy Wednesday, May 1st, 1907: Veteran George Mullin put together quite a successful stretch in April for the Boston Beaneaters, earning himself the National League Pitcher of the Month award. Mullin racked up a 4-2 record in 7 starts, posting a 2.55 ERA over 60 innings and striking out 22. |

NL Chooses Rookie of the Month
Saturday, June 1st, 1907: Neal Ball earned the National League Rookie of the Month award for his fine play in May. The 26-year-old Philadelphia shortstop batted .386, smacked no home runs and drove in 16 runs. He also tagged 44 hits, scored 18 runs and picked up 11 walks for a .440 on-base percentage. Batting .324 to date, Ball has no home runs and 29 RBIs. May's Best Rookie Named by AL Saturday, June 1st, 1907: Joe Jackson is still a bit shy, but then, who could blame the newest American League Rookie of the Month honoree? He hasn't been around the league long enough to fully know the ropes yet, despite the fact that he's putting up veteran-like numbers. In May the Chicago hitter tagged opposing pitching for a .364 average with 43 hits, 5 home runs and 11 RBIs. This season Jackson is batting .380 with 89 hits and 7 home runs. He has scored 52 times and has 33 runs batted in. NL Announces Best Pitcher for May Saturday, June 1st, 1907: The National League made it official today -- Pete Dowling of the Boston Beaneaters is the Pitcher of the Month. In May he impressed the sportswriters with his domination of league hitters. Dowling made 7 starts, registered 6 wins and no losses with a solid 3.83 ERA. In 54 innings he allowed 50 hits, racked up 19 strikeouts, walked 12 and permitted teams to hit .244 against him. This year Dowling has gone 8-5 with an ERA of 4.82 and has 37 strikeouts in 106.1 innings. |

NL Rookie Hittin' on All Cylinders in July
Thursday, August 1st, 1907: Youngster Vin Campbell emerged as the latest National League Rookie of the Month today. The young man from New York deserved the honor, batting .417 with no home runs and 13 RBI. Is the month of July a harbinger of things to come or just a fluke? We'll find out someday, but for now, we'll just let Campbell enjoy the limelight. Campbell is hitting .372 so far this season with 43 RBIs and 68 runs scored. He has 146 hits including 2 home runs, 19 walks and .406 OBP. Chicago Newcomer July's #1 Rookie Thursday, August 1st, 1907: Joe Jackson was toddling around on his tricycle when some of the guys he's playing against were in their prime, but the 18-year-old left fielder definitely knows how to get to first, second or beyond. Today he was chosen July's American League Rookie of the Month for his remarkable month of hitting. In 24 games Jackson batted .451 for Chicago, slapping 46 hits in 102 at-bats with 3 home runs, drove in 22 runs and scored 31 times. In 107 games this season Jackson is batting .406 with 185 hits and 13 home runs. He has scored 111 runs and driven in 70. Donovan Tabbed as July's Starter of the Month Thursday, August 1st, 1907: As Bill Donovan hoisted up the National League Pitcher of the Month trophy for July, rumors have already begun to swirl about whether he will leave Boston once his contract is up at the end of the season. Donovan put pressure on the Beaneaters to keep him around by posting a 3-1 record and an ERA of 1.13 over 48 innings last month. He also rolled up 17 strikeouts, increasing his value both to Boston and to every other team in the league. So far this year Donovan has 8 wins and 10 losses and a 4.00 ERA. |

NL Awards Best Batter Prize to Hemphill
Monday, September 23rd, 1907: He was a hard-hitting machine all week long. That's why Charlie Hemphill of the Chicago Cubs was named the National League Player of the Week. For the week the 31-year-old left fielder batted .542 (13-24) with no home runs, 7 runs and 3 RBIs. In 152 games this year Hemphill has posted a .277 average and put up these numbers: 6 home runs, 38 RBIs and 79 runs scored. AL Player of the Week Chosen Monday, September 23rd, 1907: The votes have been cast and counted and the winner of the American League Player of the Week has been chosen. It was presented earlier today to Emmet Heidrick for his red-hot week of hitting. The Washington center fielder took home the trophy by splurging with 14 hits in 32 at-bats for a .438 batting average, driving in 10 runs and scoring 6 times. Hitting Streak Stopped at 27 Games Sunday, September 22nd, 1907: After 27 games, Pop Lloyd had his hitting streak ended abruptly today by Brooklyn at Ebbets Field. The Cubs shortstop failed to get a hit in 4 at-bats and his brief fling with fame has come to a halt. But Lloyd seemed to care less -- it didn't matter as Chicago took a 3-1 victory from the Royal Giants. Lloyd didn't dwell on the streak saying, "It was good while it lasted. If it had to end, I'm glad it ended with a victory." Lloyd currently has a .346 batting average with 219 hits, 9 homers, 117 RBIs, 92 runs scored and a .380 OBP. |

Not really sure what got us over the hump. I had kept being sixth in the league or so but this year we were able to squeak it out with a tough battle with the Yankees. Congrats to the other playoff teams. For the record, I'm not scared of Joe Jackson, with or without shoes.

And that one game loss in the spring training sim turns out to matter.

If I'd been more coherent, I might have wanted to rectify that one game thing, but I didn't want to set a precedent either...so it's probably for the best that I just left things how they were.

I totally have run this team into the ground. It shows I have no idea how to manage a baseball team in real life nor computer.
I have a dominant closer according to the scouting report...7-8-6...who ends up with a 5.01 ERA and 1.73 WHIP...so even my good guys suck! Last edited by MattG : 09-20-2009 at 12:07 PM. |

The Royal Giants have the lamest offense ever. We were 7th in average (.277), 8th in slugging (.361), 8th in hits (1563), and 8th in extra-base hits (350). Still we managed to score 802 runs, good for third in the national league. How? Walks! We led the league with 635 base on balls and were second in OBP (.354). So basically the only way we score is from walks/singles, but mostly walks.
