Thanksgiving day games thread
Once again, it's our annual view of the Detroit Lions. The other 16 weeks of the season I could give a flying truck about em, but today I care as I have no other option. Also we get to see the Tony Homo/TO show in dallas.
Typically the CBS game will suck cause there will only be 2 AFC teams that can play the Lions or Cowboys in any given year. At least the NFL Network has a quality AFC matchup on tonight. I'm going to go with Detroit, Dallas and Denver as my picks today. |

On behalf of Detroit football fans everywhere, I apologize whole-heartedly for inflicting this annual fiasco of a franchise onto the national viewing public in general. We have come to the consensus, here in the Detroit area, that if the Ford Family is compared to the Corleones, then William Clay (Lion's owner) is unfortunately for us, Fredo.
On the plus side, I have heard many fantasy-footballers via sports-talk that have looked ahead and been able to pick up Joey Harrington for this game in particular. Good luck to Joey, hope he scorches these jokers for everything he can. Hopefully for the good of this tradition in general these Thanksgiving day Lion's games can soon be regulated to local-status for TV and some other more worthy teams can be viewed nationally. |

Of course, millions of NFL fans won't be able to watch it. We'll get it here in KC because of the NFL's policy of allowing a local over-the-air broadcast for cable games involving a local team, but I'll only be getting the two Chiefs games thanks to the NFL's hate/hate relationship with Time Warner Cable.

It looks like Roy Williams has finally shaken off the injuries from his first couple of seasons and is turning into a bona-fide NFL receiver. That was an awesome catch he just made.

Making my obligatory post during a Lions game, even though they're winning I still don't like the way they are playing. Good to see Roy Williams finally starting to come on here, now if we could only find a half-way decent quarterback.

Someone needs to take this game away from Detroit next year. They just don't deserve it anymore.

Well, I have Kitna and Booker on my fantasy team so I hope this game turns into a nice shootout. Especially since I started Kitna over Brady (vs. CHI) and Leinart (vs. MIN).

Roy Williams played a great first quarter, but the Lions seem to have lost their stride. Every time I see Simms I get a laugh remembering the NE vs. Oak game when he got hit in the face with the snowball.
I wish there was no dome in Detroit and it was snowing. |

Maybe there is something to requiring halftime performances to be lip-synced.

Exactly. That's why maybe they should force them to lipsync, instead of having to suffer through something like that again.

Is there a link somewhere to listen to the games online for free? NFL.com seems to want me to pay, and I've been told that everything on the internet has to be free.

I signed up for nfl radio. You get a 7 day trial period, and seeing as how this is the one day a year I work during nfl games, it coincides nicely with the first day of the free trial.

What a dull game, they should have put the Dolphins-Lions on the NFLN and put the Chiefs-Broncos on CBS.

Great win for the Dolphins, Harrington's classier than I would have been in his situation, we're on a roll - only downside is I've sat Booker on my fantasy bench as the 5th WR this week... Not good.

Way to Go Joey Harrington!!!.
Gee, Matt Millen, what happened here? I thought the QB was the problem you said? FUCKING DUMBASS. I dont think theres ever been a more incompetent GM in any sport. If you didnt give such great head to that good ol' boy owner Clay Ford you'd be signing 8 X 10's at card shows. |

Damn i missed the game, why have friends to come home on a game day?...
....Well maybe because i'm the only in my whole city that knows what the NFL is At least we won again and Harrington looked good for what i have read, in the stats i see he even threw some bombs. Maybe the Phins are starting to become a good team after all.

As far as I can remember he only had 2 bad throws in the game, both in the first half. He was pressured by Edwards unblocked up the middle and just threw it anywhere, and the interception was a badly thrown ball (but also a good read by the safety - he made up a lot of ground, but was waiting for that exact pass to be thrown) But yeah, he looked pretty good overall.

Harrington's really revived his career and our season along with it. Sometimes that old chestnut about a change of scenery really is true.
And I'm loving Romo's brilliance and cheering on my fellow Racine County alum.

I was hoping that Parcells would let Romo go for six, but I guess there's something to be said about not running up the score.

Either that or he made it a conscious effort to not let Romo break Aikman's record for most TDs in a game... but I doubt it.

What's up with the flea-flicker these days? It seems to me like teams are using this a lot more often now-a-days.

Dola, the star spangled banner before the Detroit game was the WORST RENDITION EVER (caps for emphasis)
If you need to bring a freaking guitar with the stadium to accompany yourself during the national anthem, you don't belong there. Also, her pitches were all over the place. I think Rosanne Barr would have been a better option. |

At least you are watching the game. Our local cable(knology) has the NFL Network, but apparently was informed that they would have to pay extra for the live games, so I AM WATCHING NFL FILMS instead of the game.

I love John Fogerty -- at least I love the 1960s John Fogerty. I'll even take the 1980s John Fogerty -- put me in coach, I'm ready to play. But the voice has been shot to hell.
What I love is the producers of NFL games have not figured out the reason why you get 200 people and let them dance around the stage and scream is so that it gives the impression that there are lots of people there enjoying themselves. When you pull back to a wide shot of the field between the 30s, the illusion is completely shot. They did it on all three broadcasts. I also feel like going to IWantNFLNetwork.com and telling them if they can go five minutes without badgering me about calling my cable company to tell them I want the NFL Network, I'll consider it. I keep waiting for Collinsworth and Gumbel to actually take Plummer out of the game and put Cutler in. If Cutler doesn't end up starting next week, these two guys will look like idiots because they just spent the last three hours telling everyone that Plummer is done after this game.
Chiefs move into second place in the West by virtue of the tie-breaker against the Broncos. Right now, they're in a playoff spot. Woo-hoo! If they can beat the Chargers in San Diego and Oakland, they'll own all the tie breakers in the West. It's starting to come together, baby! |

I know it might be hard to believe, but Fogerty's halftime performance in the Chiefs-Broncos game was light years better than the Detroit halftime show.
