Blog and board?

Any interest in starting a sports blog/serious sports message board?

actually, i was having the same thought. not really a break away from the board, but like a little sister. i was thinking like a sports sim/sports/blog/podcast thing... but then i would have to try and pay for webspace, a mic, try and get some developers on as guests (i'm looking at you arles, jim, marc...). i think people would enjoy getting an occasional listen to the developers of their favorite games.

Who wouldn't want to listen to HA and Shorty talk about sports and being weird. Who wouldn't want to hear John Galt and JiMGa speak politics and find common ground on sports. i think that has some potential, there's really no decent sports podcast, they all seem too inside, sometimes i just want someone to speak about what the general fan sees.

this is a very interesting topic. once i figure out how to install QOTM to my message board over at Dean Houston.org (to make Franklinoble happy) i'd be open to configuring it for podcasts. seems like there's a lot of possibilities w/ podcasting, from what i gathered in the 10 minutes i researched the topic.

See my thoughts were, we just use something like Project Gizmo to dial in an internet conference call every week or so. Just get a couple of us together and ramble about sports, or whats topical on the board/sports sims/sports, then spice it up every week or 2 with some nice/in depth sports sim discussions, maybe highlight an online league or something. I figure its worth it if it creates even a miniscual buzz, like 100 people outside of this community who are looking for a sports blog/podcast. Maybe they'll say "hey, I like fantasy football, maybe I'll try one of these sports sims". Obviously, it couldn't be called FOF blog for copyright reasons, but I was thinking "The Ramblings Of Uni-testicled Text Simmers" or TROUTS for short. Obviously, the only problem with some sort of radio show is time, bandwith, and finding the right mix of sports, sims, random crap, and personality. And the problem with a blog is, its just our random thoughts, which people don't want to hear that often. We don't really have "connections" outside of our little sphere, so I just wonder what we'd blog about. Believe me, anything that takes me out of my usual "wake, work, woman, sleep" routine is nice, but we'd need some kind of catch or hook.

But I'm definitely game. I'm freakin 1337!

I see FOFC like a TV Network. We have breaking news, game shows, soap operas, dramas, cooking shows, drinking tips, poker, and some sports. Also, it's a text sim board too, a very good one.

Dean Houston.org is Spike TV, except it like it much more than Spike TV. Maybe enough to root for the D'Back.....ok, not that much.

What I'm envisioning is ESPN circa 1990. A place to talk strictly sports, whatever your sport is. If you want to write a 1000 word post that describes how good the Jets running game is, then this is the place for you. Whatever the sport, your welcome.

After spending time at what is considered a good Red Sox message board reading 41 pages of tripe on Manny and his problems, I realized why I don't post there. Too much whiny crap. If you are familiar with Sons of Sam Horn, that's what I'm looking to create, message board wise.

Blog? We have some truly talented writers on this board who know their stuff. Lets show it off to the world and be a place where in time we get featured on ESPN.

Podcast? I've got 5 gigs of space and a ton of bandwidth. I'd love to have pieces online to download. HA, Shorty, go at it.

This is not a bad idea vtbub. And the Project Gizmo would work nicely.

I think its a fantastic idea. I like your plan a little more than Easy's because you have a single focus. And I don't think there are enough good, high quality, sports only message boards out there talking about relevant current topics and important historical issues.

just for reference, Gizmo/Skype for calls generally top out at 4-5 connections for words not to get constantly dropped, so if some kind of podcast is done, that would be the max that it could hold for any call. Here is a chart of sizes for talk if people were going to do that: https://www.libsyn.com/rec_size_chart.html. This could kill a person's bandwith quickly

NFL, NBA, NHL, Auto Racing, College Hoops still need dance partners.

Soccer is all set.

Still need podcasters too.

If we move to another host I plan to put a blog/newsfeed on the front page of FOFC, not so much for commentary, but rather because it is very easy to update quickly.

The only reason why it has not already been done is because we are limited to one database with Sportplanet, and I am not adding even more fields to our 900mb forum database.

If any of the SGS guys want to hit the board, I'm working on a roundtable discussion of Palmeiro and just need one or two more responses to the set of questions to post the article. Doesn't matter what your responsibility is, if you want to answer, knock yourself out.
