Freeware Aussie Rules Game

It's still in the development stage but it sims a reasonable game and even has a graphical representation of a game - even though it can be hard to find the location of the ball sometimes.

It's called Coaches Box and can be found here. It's only a 1 MB download but it is constantly being updated. The developer listens to suggestions and there is a thread here that follows its progress.

Worth a look if you have any interest in Aussie Rules or text sims in general.

I know it's not freeware but I suppose you've heard of Pro Rugby Manager 2. I haven't played it myself but you can get it for about US$28 delivered from here.

Do you watch/Tivo the weekly game on Fox Soccer Channel TK? I was also thinking about getting the video subscription on their website, but it's $40 I can't afford right now

Unfortunately Comcast in my area doesn't do Fox Soccer Channel except as an additional "premium" channel. When I move into my own place, I will pay for it, but right now, living with my folks and unemployed (hopefully not for much longer)...

I am lucky, though, in that the MHz network carries some games and usually runs highlights on Monday nights, so at least I can keep up with the action...well, that and the AFL website.

An older freeware game has just released a new version. It is called Footy Fanatic FX and is an Aussie Rules career sim. You can auto-sim the whole season if you don't really understand the finer points of the game or you can play out each game using different strategy settings.

I haven't had time to delve into the game fully but it looks fairly promising. You can't go wrong with it being freeware!

A couple of unofficial threads at a board discussing the game if you have any problems or questions.

Fozzie, I thought FSC gave up the Aussie League rights once they changed over from Fox Sports World to the all-Soccer FSC format?

I used to love watching the weekly match on FSW and the one hour highlight show.

Thank You for the Game info 21C. I will have to check this out.

They still had the Aussie Rules rights back when Foz made the post in 2005.

Yeah, that's my fault for resurrecting this old thread. I was about to start a new one when I vaguely remembered making a similar post sometime before.

Agreed. If I ever hit a Mega Powerball jackpot, I'm going to tell Marc V and the boys over at SI, that I'm going to buy SI from Sega, and have them add four sims to their lineup...

Rugby League
Rugby Union
Aussie Rules

and bring on Oli Norwell to make a full fledged SI-ish cricket game

And another freeware game in a matter of days!

Total Aussie Rules, another game that was previously sold ( although it was difficult to purchase for non-Aussie buyers ), is about to release itself as freeware. TAR is a slicker looking game than Footy Fanatic and I'm actually looking forward to this release more than FF.

Check out this page for further news about its imminent release:

Downloaded and played around with Footy Fanatic a bit. Looks pretty cool but since I know very little about the AFL I will have to do some reading about the positions, players etc. I chose the Bombers as my team (Essendon Bombers right?) and simmed a pre-season game losing by 20 points to the Eagles. Looks like a fun time-waster.

Pfft! "Imminent" release . . . not quite.

That other freeware game finally got uploaded the other day. It is available now at the link posted above. Just in time since the postseason is around the corner.
