2008 Top Gun Game A - DRAFT THREAD

Game Rules:

1) Each participant drafts a team of 6 players.
2) Snake draft done on the forum.
3) You score as many points as each of your drafted players scores in the NCAA tournament.
4) One of your players must be from a team seeded 10th or lower.

Draft Rules:

There is a 1 hour clock that will run from 10am to 4pm eastern time Monday through Wednesday of next week. Drafting may begin immediately after the selection show ends. If a person has not sent a draft list and is unable to pick when the clock is running, I will auto-draft the top scorer who is on a team in the NCAA tournament from this list:

http://sports.espn.go.com/ncb/leader...oring&sort=AVG

If the draft is moving too slowly I reserve the right to extend the clock later in the week (ie have it from fro 10am-7pm if necessary to guarentee we finish).

Game A Participants and Draft Order

2. Shorty3281
3. Eaglesfan27
4. sooner333
5. sublime 2
6. stevew
7. hoopsguy

PM box is nice and empty for lists. Remember that the clock starts at 10am eastern time and we will get through 1 pick an hour minimum until 4pm. If we get through a bunch we'll keep it like that, if its slow we'll extend it from like 10am-6pm. If you're not sure you can be online during that time, make sure you have PM'd me a list!

I sent a list that might get me through round 3. Like was noted, just don't take multiple players on the same team.

Just a thought, but isn't beasley maybe the best "seed over 10" player ever available, at least since we've played top gun?

yeah, probably so. Last year it was some guy on a 16 seed. Durant was high up on the list but didn't last long enough to get auto-picked of course.

I would assume GE would take Douglas-Roberts at this slot. Neq's making slurpees all day() so i dunno if he sent a list or not.

no list from neuqua, ugh. And yeah its pretty much a certainty who GE would take, but its not really fair to everyone else who we don't know who they'd take, etc.

In past years, we've allowed people who get autopicked for to pull a Vikings and replace their pick whenever they show up if they'd like.

Is Beasley really a fair person to allow to switch out. If it were some guy from Coppin State, I'd understand, but Beasley is a pretty valuable guy for a double-digit seed and we're taking away opportunities to take him with our picks.

I say we PM everyone who is in this, and then try to re-start sometime in the afternoon. It seems like some people didn't get the memo.

I believe the rule has always been that the autopicks go by best scorer overall left who's team is in the tourney. So Beasely fills that mold, which is suprising. Cause normally you would get some dude from coppin state.
But yeah, i see your point about switching him out.

I wonder if EF is going to go with the homer pick at slot 5. Actually most likely that's who i'd take regardless.

I wish I'd put it in the "official" rules in the original post. On one hand it sucks getting auto picked for and can kill the fun of the game. But you're right, I have received more than one list with Beasley's name on it somewhere. And there are a couple other 20+ point scorers that aren't of the 16 seed screwjob variety as well, but probably aren't what most people really want to be getting early on...

not really sure what the best way to go is there, thoughts?

I don't want to take the fun out of this for GE, but you were clear about when this started and I don't think you can allow a switchout on one of the top scorers in the tourney whose team has a fair shot at advancing. Shrug.

Also, I'm leaving now. I'll make my pick in about 30 minutes when I get to work.

I'd change it up to only autopick the best scorer from say a 1-6 seed, unless that team is down to the last pick and doesn't have a player from a 10+ seed.

I'd say in this scenerio, anyways, it might be best to slide GE and Neq to the end of the first round instead of autopicking. One guys getting beasely, the other will get Curry from davidson if we autopick, but those clearly aren't the best players. If either surfaces before the end of the first round, they can pick at any point, and will get locked in snake order from that point on.

Pushing both of them to 8 and 9 should take us to the end of the day today.

Or just autodraft douglas roberts for GE, and slide nequa to the end of the draft.

I like the idea of just dropping them down to the end of the draft order, GE 8th/Neuq 9th for the duration. Both are big college fans and reliable on the board and this gives everyone the best chance to make all their own picks.

Any objections to that? I've seen everyone else in the thread today so I think that'd get us moving a bit here!

I don't know why everyone's crying about Beasley. If I had to waste pick 1.3 on him, I would be pissed. I've got probably 20 names ahead of him. Remember guys, he's a freakin 11 seed!

I think moving them down in the draft order is a good solution.

Internet at work is acting up a bit, but IT seems to have it fixed now..

No homer pick for me, as it is much too early for him to go.

I'll take Wayne Ellington, UNC.

Alright, we're moving GoldenEagle and Neuqua to the end of the draft to try to keep things moving w/o having to make an annoying decision on autopicks that is going to suck for someone!

Once we make it down to GE's pick that's now at the end of the first round, we're going to stick with the original rules as stated, top scorer, send lists, etc, no substituting picks out, etc. (Hint, send lists)

Next year a rule like dacman suggested would be a good change probably.
