I think they would have been better served making a game with fictional players. It's not like college football or basketball where you have quite a few stars. I don't think I can name more than one college baseball player.

What do you mean. The game would have to ship with fictional players. You can't sell a game with college player names on it. The real names would come from 3rd party roster sets, just like the football game. I doubt roster accuracy is even decent on the first version of this game.

Maybe it's just me, but I have no desire to play a baseball game that doesn't have the sound of the crack of the bat.
Baseball video games are something I play for the experience, not because I like the players or teams. MVP was a terrific game and I still play it on occasion. A college game that "pings" everytime I make good contact? No thanks. FWIW, I realize this may seem like a stupid, petty, minor gripe, but it really would impact the enjoyment of the game for me. It's one of the reasons I've never been a big fan of college baseball in the first place. |

I'm actually excited about this, even though I'm not a big college baseball fan. Maybe just because it's unique. |

Interesting. I wonder how the recruiting is handled, and how they deal with players leaving early for the draft (as well as recruits). I could see myself interested enough to pick up a copy.
On a semi-related note, what was the name of that online text-sim college baseball game? I played it way back in the early test phases, and I was impressed by how it worked, both in terms of recruiting and in how players progressed. I didn't like it as much after they started another beta and quit playing... |

This seems like a pretty cool idea. I'd definately be interested enough to pick up a copy and play with my beloved UCSB.

I'd be more interested in this than in a MLB console game, actually. No more effing salary cap!
Though I can't imagine that the stands of most of the schools would be as full as what they'll probably make them. |

I mean they should have made a Baseball Stars type game. Old School. For the most part, people don't care about college baseball. It's a niche sport. Like Women's basketball.

Another big draw: many fewer games in a season. So you can actually play out a season in a decent time.

If it's anything like the new NCAA football game, there's an option to automatically assign (random) names to all the teams.

Very good point. Here's hoping it's possible to find slider settings that allow the in-game experience to be both believable as well and realistically challenging. I like to win, but if I go 55-0 and outscore the computer 500-50, I'm a little less interested in playing out the games. That's not an absolute killer for me though - I had fun simming most of my games in previous versions of MVP and playing only a handful. Same with NCAA Football. |

I have no idea what "good" college stats are. Im guessing if you were a top notch team, realistically you could probably win 80% of your games, and outscore the computer by a ton. |

True. But I guess my point is I don't want to be able to take an average or worse program and be able to kick the computer's ass on a regular basis - I'd like to be able to find a realistic challenge level that also plays in a believable manner. |

Best winning percentage was .824 last season. All depends on schedule in college ball. South Carolina went 52-8 (.867) in 2000, but usually the best record is .800-.825 every year.

The west and south kick ass in college baseball for obvious reasons. Every year. The new rules changes are an attempt to correct for that.

Earliest allowed start date has been moved to be mandatory as the last Friday in February, pending "legislative approval" I think. This would go into effect in 2008. Right now many western and some southern teams start in January.

Have to say im dissapointed the ASU stadium(the top pic) shows grassy hills in the background instead of either desert or like in real life a bunch of buildings from the ASU campus(especially sun devil stadium which looms over the field.

I would imagine that with the number of stadiums they will have to create, they are going to cut corners on most of them.

I would also guess that on this first iteration of a college version that they probably didn't have enough time to really get good reference material for all the stadiums. This will likely improve with future versions (assuming they keep producing the game). Stadium accuracy for a college baseball sim is rather low on my list of priorities compared to a MLB sim. |

Which college baseball stadiums will be featured on the game?
GR: Outside of the obvious facility in Rosenblatt Stadium, EA told us that there will be 16 ballparks on the game. Teams that will have their ballparks on the game include Texas, Ole Miss, Baylor, Georgia Tech, Cal-State Fullerton, Clemson, Florida State, LSU, Rice, Stanford, Arizona, Arizona State, Miami, Nebraska, Southern California, Notre Dame and Tennessee. http://rosenblattreport.rivals.com/c...asp?CID=477823
