OT: Car CD Player Purchase & Installation
I'm making a fairly sizeable drive this weekend (about 3.5 hours on the way up and 4.5 hours on the way back), and think it would be worth it now to get a CD player installed in my car, since it's something I've wanted to do for a while. I know I could just buy a portable one and car-kit it, but I don't like having all sorts of wires hanging around (and the quality is not as good).
Does anybody know what kinds of places I should call to see if I could purchase something and have installed by Friday? I don't even know where to start in this sort of thing.

Best Buy can usually do it the day after you buy it, or maybe I just got lucky.
Do you have a rough idea of how expensive you're willing to go? I got my Pioneer for about $130 and I love it - supposedly Pioneer is the best on the market, atleast that is what I was told. |

That's about my range (anywhere between $100-$200). If there was some compelling reason to spend more than that, I would certainly be willing to do so. Does yours play MP3's loaded onto CD's?

BTW, Thanks for the response... that gives me a great starting point. I wasn't sure if Best Buy did installations or not.

Is this your's Shorty? I'm a little confused as to whether a 6-disc changer actually includes the CD player itself.

Yes, it does and I take advantage of it - my favorite 10 soundtracks all squeezed into one, and all I have to do it hit an up or down button to cycle through them. BTW, that isn't mine. A disc changer would go into your trunk where you can then add and remove cd's, but of course, only when you are parked and behind your car. I'll look for mine. |

Ended up getting a JVC, because it was the only option in my price-range at Audio Obsessions, a local car audio place. It's pretty nice... plenty of radio options, and CD random mode (absolutely CLUTCH for me), and a remote which I'll figure out a way to mount to my steering wheel (any suggestions re: this?).
Thanks for the help Shorty! ~rpi-fan

Cool! As for the remote, nope, that's always an interesting thing in a car. I usually don't use mine, doing it all by hand, but passengers sure love to get their hands on it.
