I hate rich people

So me and my girlfriend go downtown to pick up some dinner. She drops me off to pick it up, and I get it. She's circling around to come pick me back up, and she gives me a call, she's sobbing. She tells me she got in a wreck, so I walk over to where she is (thankfully only 2 blocks away). I get over there. Wasn't too bad, a few scratches and dents on her bumper, but thankfully it wasn't worse. She was stopped at a light waiting for traffic to clear so she could turn, but the girl coming up behind her didn't stop in time and hit her. She said the first thing the girl told her was not to call the cops and lets just leave. My girlfriend calls her parents and they tell her just to report it to the cops, that way if something does end up being wrong with the car or her she won't have to pay for it. So the cop gets there, and around the same time, the other girl's father gets there. He immediately starts bitching and moaning, saying there's nothing wrong with the car.

The cop tells us to pull over into a parking lot, so we do. The girl's father runs into the parking lot and immediately over to my girl's car. He goes behind the car and starts tapping on and rubbing on it saying there's nothing wrong. My girlfriend asks him to stop, and so does the cop, and he just starts yelling at everyone. He's like there's no big scratches and no one is hurt, so lets go. My girl says her neck is a little sore, but its fine, she just wants insurance info to make sure nothing is wrong with the car. The cop says she'll call the EMT, but my girl says no, its ok, she can just get checked out at school for free (and those who say whiplash or similar things don't exist, you've obivously never been hit by a car, I missed a month of soccer in high school because some guy hit me from behind with his car). The cop says she has to, its policy to protect their ass. The dad then goes off again, saying he's a surgeon, and that he can check it out right now and starts walking to my girlfriend. She says no thanks she'll be fine. Thankfully the cop stopped him. The guy keeps bitching and moaning as the cop is writing a report (but no ticket mind you, just a report taking down the other girl's info for insurance). The ambulance gets there and the guy just says "thanks for costing us $2000" and just keeps bitching and moaning. Then his wife shows up and starts touching my girls car. I was hoping they'd stick around after the cop left so I could beat the crap out of the whole family. They left after the cop got down writing their stuff down, and he's walking away and saying "thanks a fucking lot". Some other people were fixing their car in the parking lot and came us to us after everyone left and were like, what was that guys problem, he was a dick, I would have punched him and his bitch.

Seriously, his daughter runs into my girlfriend's car, doesn't get a ticket, and there's absolutely no chance any insurance claim will get filed. And all he does is bitch and moan. I'm sorry my girlfriend getting hit by his daughter inconvenienced him for 20 minutes. Perhaps he should go back to his million dollar house downtown. I told my girlfriend when we get home that we should just beat the shit out of the bumper and charge it to him, since we have all their info and they have none of ours. But yeah, my girl seriously couldn't move her head by the end of the night, but she's just going to get it checked out by her professors tomorrow.

Just had to vent.

Ok, so you know that she got hurt in a car accident. You know he is rich. If you were in Florida, you would have already been approached by 5 lawyers about a case. Sue his fuckin ass and really make him pay. You shouldn't have to pay the lawyer unless he gets paid. You will probably settle out of court. That type of injury has very big potential long term injury possibilites. I would seriously think about it. Call a lawyer who specializes in car accidents. It will be worth it.

I'm no lawyer, but it sounds like it's time to take pictures of your girlfriend's car and call the insurance company. This certainly can't end badly for your girlfriend, right? She didn't do anything wrong, and the police report should show that it was the other girl's fault.

I kind of disagree on the rich people slant. Anybody can be an asshole, but the indifference shown here, is very similar to many situations that I have experienced. It's not that their an asshole, it's more how they are an asshole. Not a slap on the entire class of the rich, but this type of situation I have only have seen with wealthier people.

They are so accustomed to getting their way that their feel they can railroad you into doing what they want. I honestly have met quite a few wealthy people that just feel that because of their wealth and status, they can manipulate all the rules of life.

I get the impression it was more specifically "how" he was an asshole, that created the slant towards rich people rather than, "he was rich" and he "was an asshole", therefore I hate rich people. Sounds more like the Asshat was parading around like some sort of royalty, like "How dare you. Do you know who I am?"

I would also stick it to them. Once he could not direct his anger at you, I'm sure that he turned it on his daughter.

Just my opinion of what I thought Easy Mac was getting at, but I could be wrong.

The minute you hire an attorney, your case is tied up with the insurance companies' staff attorneys. Their whole goal is then to delay the process, prove your GF was somehow negligent, etc.

I'd get an estimate and file a claim with her insurance company. They'll pay for the damage and usually a small amount for inconvenience. Take the money and move on. You'll be a lot happier...

I not much for PC, but the point I' making is if I titled a tread saying I hate blacks, or I hate Chinks, or I hate welfare babies, I would be lynched or tarred and feathered..or perhaps both. So wile I ceraintly understand the "spirit" in which the post was made, and honestly really don't have aproblem with it, it seems to me that ripping minorities that are so called" poor, uneducated victims of society is off limits, while "reverse discrimination" is just fine and OK.

Well, while I wouldn't hire an attorney (not yet), this is exactly why one has insurance. By having insurance, you now have your own Evil Insurance Lawyers slogging it out with their Evil Insurance Lawyers. Peace of mind.

That said, there's two possible follow-ups here:

The Car: While you could report it to your insurance company and get it "fixed", it sounds like the amount of the damage won't be worth the potential premium increase (yes, even if you're not at fault, having accidents will increase your premium). Unless there's actual damage, I'd probably forget about it.

The Neck: This, on the other hand, has the potential to be serious. Do not take a neck injury lightly!!! If she does have whiplash, it can really screw her up long-term. Luckily you have the police report to back you up. Definitely have the neck checked out and if treatment is necessary, make sure your insurance company fights this battle for you as well.
