It's Back: IWS 36
Well, I wanted to throw in some stuff like link back up to the histories but with finals coming up, there just isn't time. Heck, these are even abbreviated rules.
If you don't know the rules, they're pretty simple: pick the answer that you think will be the most popular. For instance, if the question is "what shape is a tire?" and 4 people answered square and only 3 answered circle, then those people answering square get 4 points and those answering ciricle only get 3 despite circle being the correct answer. The winner is the player with the highest product of his scores (yes, all 6 scores multiplied together). The winner gets this job of hosting the next one and being moderator on questions. Administrative notes: anyone know how to check how much space there is left for messages in your PM box? I'll try to keep it as clear as possible so we don't have any problems with missed PMs. Email me at [email protected] if the box is full. Also, I'll try and update who has entries recieved when I bump but with finals fast approaching, things are getting hectic. It's a summer themed IWS, with questions from both Swaggs (one of the other co-winners) and myself. And what's summer, you might ask? It's the time for blockbuster movies and the NFL offseason. So without further adieu, IWS 36. Movies 1. What is/was the best movie sequel? 2. Who is/was the best James Bond? 3. What Summer blockbuster will be the biggest disappointment at the box office? NFL 1. Who was the worst NFL Draft bust of all time? 2. What active NFL defensive player is the best lock for the NFL Hall of Fame? 3. What team will win the AFC Championship next year? Entries are due by noon ET on Friday! Let's try to break 30 this time. SI

Unofficial count at the moment: 15.
I'll check them out and enter them into the spreadsheet when I get back from class this afternoon and then I'll have a list of who I have answers from. SI

Just to keep the thread alive and interesting, I've decided to post what I think are the LEAST popular answers to these questions:
Movies 1. What is/was the best movie sequel? Speed 2 2. Who is/was the best James Bond? Mike Myers 3. What Summer blockbuster will be the biggest disappointment at the box office? Sorority Sex Kittens 2 NFL 1. Who was the worst NFL Draft bust of all time? Tony Mandarich 2. What active NFL defensive player is the best lock for the NFL Hall of Fame? Jason Sehorn 3. What team will win the AFC Championship next year? I'd say Cincinnatti, but, in all likelihood, that won't be the least popular response. Houston Texans |

Sorry Franklinnoble, you were wrong on all six questions...
Actually, I think we used to have an agreement not to post awsners to the IWS competitions until the game was over. However, I'm not the writer of this thing, so I could be wrong. QuikSand? Edited to get my signature show up in this post...

Technically, I'm pretty sure you're not supposed to put any answers facetious or otherwise, but no big deal. We are at 27! Better get those last minute entries in before you forget. You have until noon ET TOMORROW

It's the moment all players have been waiting for: the mocking of their results
There were two questions that had pretty outright winners and one that split almost evenly between two. The other questions had about half the people answer the most popular. Judging by the turnout and the distribution of scores, the questions were pretty good. Tho, most of that credit goes to Swaggs since he came up with the better questions. What is/was the best movie sequel? This was split almost evenly and was a key question. I kindof like T2 a bit more than the poll, but only as third place to the two obvious answers. Godfather II: 13 Empire Strikes Back: 12 LotR:Two Towers: 2 Terminator 2: 1 Rocky II: 1 Who is/was the best James Bond? A little confusion here: it was Who not Which. And of the "who", the answer was pretty clear: Sean Connery. I figured we might get some more Pierce Brosnans and maybe even some Roger Moores, but I'm glad people here have taste. Sean Connery: 25 Goldfiner: 2 GoldenEye: 1 Pierce Brosnan: 1 What Summer blockbuster will be the biggest disappointment at the box office? This was a fun question because not only did you have to figure out what would be a bust, but on what scale. I've gotta think X2 and the Matrix are pretty safe since they'll easily break $200M and $300M (if not $500M). The people who mentioned those must have really high standards. Also, there are a couple on there that you have to wonder about their "blockbuster" status. The Hulk: 11 Dumb and Dumberer: 3 Bad Boys 2: 2 American Pie 3: 2 Tomb Raider II: 2 2 Fast 2 Furious: 2 Terminator 3: 2 Seabiscuit: 1 Italian Job: 1 Daddy Daycare: 1 Matrix Reloaded: 1 X2: 1 Who was the worst NFL Draft bust of all time? As for the NFL portion of IWS: This question was pretty cut and dry. A couple of other snuck in there but everyone hated Ryan Leaf: really high pick, whiny in public, and recent. Ryan Leaf: 23 Tony Mandarich: 2 Aundray Bruce: 1 Ki-Jana Carter: 1 Brian Bosworth: 1 Todd Marinavich: 1 What active NFL defensive player is the best lock for the NFL Hall of Fame? A great question by Swaggs that got tons of different responses, all equally good. Bruce carries the day, however. Bruce Smith: 15 Junior Seau: 5 Rod Woodson: 4 Ray Lewis: 3 Warren Sapp: 2 What team will win the AFC Championship next year? Who would win the Super Bowl was too simple: lots of Bucs, I think, since they just won and kept most of their team intact. The AFC was more of a mixed bag and with a question like this, some team bias will creep in so we got a few different answers. Oakland Raiders: 15 Miami Dolphins: 7 Tennessee Titans: 4 New England Patriots: 1 Denver Broncos: 1 Pittsburgh Steelers: 1 And the winner is... BishopMVP with a full 100%! Franklinnoble and AgPete missed out due to the sequel question and msf518 went with the Dolphins instead of the Raiders. Three more missed out having both ESB and the Dolphins. MIJB#19 keeps the streak alive, having made the bottom half again. Code:

Thanks for bring the contest back SI. Doh! Godfather II by one vote, eh? I was going to pick GF2 but I figured with all the Star Wars hype, it would be the most popular. Drats!

Wow, I just saw this, and since it had already ended, thought I'd see how I would have done. Damn near close, that's for sure. I would have tied up the Sequel question (my vote was for the Empire Strikes Back), but other than that I only missed the NFL Defensive player (I picked Woodson). Oh well...I'll be in next time

Ah, merely tradition .
Well on the other forum I post on, I'll alter the rules if I start a IWS thread there .

Dammit. I was perfect up until the last two answers. I figured that the Raiders were getting too old, so I went with the Dolphins, and somehow I forgot about Bruce Smith (I shouldn't have, he sacked the Cowboys QB enough times at the Thanksgiving game I went to last year) and went with Junior Seau. Eighth place is respectable, but I will eventually win, I swear this to you!!!

And Aundray Bruce was the biggest NFL flop of all time, so bad that he is already forgotten. Taken a spot ahead of Leaf, and had arguably a less effective career.

Woohoo! Finally won one of these. And I nearly sacrificed it by saying the Patriots for the last question. They will win, of course, but I decided to go with the popular answer. I'll see if I can get one up later tonight, if not then tomorrow night at the latest.
