Simple web authoring tool?
Having no experience whatsoever in creating web pages, I want to create a nice template to start my eBay selling. I know you can use html tags but I strongly prefer a graphics-based creator (and from that, I can learn how html is used). I don't need anything fancy like what Dreamweaver gives you so is FrontPage what everyone uses for basic graphics web layouts?

If you really just want a simple way to present your information, I believe the later versions of Microsoft Office Suites will allow you to expert web pages.

basic web pages: vi (or gvim if i'm in X).
oh wait, wysiwig's... frontpage is okay. I never cared for office's code coming out of their software packages.

Front Page is fine for basic stuff - and better for a newbie than Dreamweaver.

I use Word and FrontPage, and in the process have started to learn a little HTML just as you have described Buc.

Word 97 was pretty good for what you're describing as it made clean simple code and you could design the page the exact same way you design a word document. Every version since then throws in so much extra crap to the code that I would avoid it for this application.

I'm creating a web site and in my research came across this thread. I have little to now programming or coding experience. I have friends who are web designers, and could certainly call on them for help in creating the page, but it's something that I think I'll get a lot out of doing mostly for myself. Are there alternatives to Netobjects Fusion (now 8.0) that are as comprehensive, as user friendly (in terms of being a WYSIWYG program), but maybe not quite at the $200 price tag? I have a friend who is going to host my site free of charge, so I don't need an all in one hosting plus design package, but am open to other suggestions. |

Forgot about this. Since the beginning of the year, I have been using FrontPage exclusively. It really is a great tool for what I wanted to do. Here is a sample template I use for ebay:

For everyone who has said this already (not just this post)- Word never has made clean, simple code. It has always generated *bloated* code and even worse, generated code that competing browsers (read: Netscape) couldn't render because it was so badly noncompliant with w3c standards. SI

Allaire Homesite, they package it in with Dreamweaver, but its also a stand alone product, been using it for almost 10 years, very basic WYSIWYG view as well as wizards and hyand coding options for everything from the base page to simple scripting tools.
