Will you try Bing? (if you care about search engines at all)

Bing is live, and so far I kind of like it. The image search is very nice, all on one huge page with no words. Very nice layout.

The main web search isn't bad. Clearly all that space to the right is being saved for ads. The related searches and history on the left is cool though.

Just did another image search right now because I wanted to see how the video search was as well. I think the image search has won me over already and I will use Bing for this.

What I am NOT liking is the option for news like on google.

I'm not sure I like the normal search, but the image search does seem better.

Did Google break all of a sudden? Why do I need another search engine?

Competition helps both products be "better" in order to attract users.

When Google has outages (as they have had recently a few times), you have another search engine that you can use instead of scratching your head wondering where altavista went.

Just two reasons I could think of...

Personally I doubt I'd use Bing too much since I'm fine with google.

If you think google is perfect then enjoy it. Bing probably won't win me over, not in it's current form (I love the news option which google has and they don't right now), but I will probably switch over to Bing for image searches. IMO they improved on Google in that area, greatly improved.

Eh, I found the news option, it is under More in the top menu. More clicks for the loss.

edit: The News search is nice though. I typed in E3 just to give something a try and the top 10 stories were all from within 2 hours. Google's top 10 had half from yesterday. Google won in a news search for 'packers' though with two stories from today I didn't see with Bing. I have to leave or I would test it more, I have no real work today.

He could have asked what a search engine is.

Cooliris maybe? My computer hates that thing. Seriously, it's like a guaranteed crash, not even CTD half the time just full blown lockup & I keep meaning to uninstall it. Glad you reminded me.

Bought out by Overture, which was in turn bought out by Yahoo.

I like the image search and the video that auto preview when you roll over one is kind of cool as well.

I don't see it replacing google as my primary search, but I do think competition is good and leads to better products for all.

Plus there is this

Anyone have success with Wolfram Alpha? Seems like a more interesting alternative search engine.

The few random questions or searches I put into it, it had problems with. I'll give them some more time to smooth things out before pronouncing judgment.

Yeah, it's going to be very different as it is attacking the problem completely differently than other search engines. I think the possibilities are huge, though..

I guess others didn't like multiple clicks to get to the news search, it is now in the main top menu. One click FTW.
