NFL Week 16 - What's better then the Redskins on Monday Night? Try Sunday Night too!

They need to fix the flex rules so games can be switched from 12 days prior to 6 days prior to the game.

Anyway, some decent games this week, headlined by Philly vs Denver and Baltimore vs Pittsburgh.

AFC WC picture can turn into a huge mess if Denver and Baltimore both lose this week, so there is some big intrigue at least.

Just an fyi for Steeler fans, I had this sent to me:

Quote:
For the Steelers to make the playoffs...
1. Steelers must win out (VS Baltimore, @ Miami).
2. Jacksonville needs to lose to either New England or Cleveland (both on the road).
3. New York Jets need to lose to either Indianapolis (away) or Cincinnati (home).
4. Denver needs to lose to either Philadelphia (away) or Kansas City (home). OR Baltimore needs to lose @ Oakland in week 17.

So this week is huge, since all of the possible losses for competing teams occur this week.

Dallas has the tie-breaker over the Eagles at this point), Eagles have the tie-breaker over the Giants, the Giants have the tie-breaker over the Cowboys....

The Giants need the Eagles to 1) Win the division and 2) Beat the Cowboys in Week 17.

So it's really simple: Giants need to win out w/ the Eagles and Cowboys both winning next week and playing for the division in Week 17. OR, the Giants can go 1-1 IF the Cowboys go 0-2. But, if the Cowboys lose to the 'skins and the Eagles win against the Broncos, that would give them a 2 game lead on the Cowboys and they wouldn't be playing for anything in Week 17, unless Minn. loses in Week 16, in which case the Eagles would be playing for a 1st round bye, but then Minn. would be playing against the G-Men in Week 17 for that same first round bye. So if the Cowboys lose the 'skins, the G-Men would likely want the Eagles to lose to the Bronocs, that way.....

my head hurts....

Giants just need to win out and either Dallas or GB lose and they're in. They have the tie breakers over both. If it came down to a Giant/Packer tie, it'd go down to the 4th tiebreaker which is opponents win % in games won, and the Packers have two good wins, Dallas and Baltimore. They have 2 vs DET, 2 vs CHI, STL, TB and CLE making up their other 7 wins.

Good look at the situations.

With the Giants holding tiebreakers over the Cowboys (head to head) and Packers (common games), New York still has a legitimate shot. Should either Dallas or Green Bay lose in Week 16, the Giants would control their own destiny heading to a potentially resting Minnesota in Week 17.

Obviously if the Bengals lose out they don't deserve to make the playoffs but as a worried Bengal fan what would the scenerio have to be for them to get eliminated from the playoffs completely? The only team I can see that would hold a tie breaker would be New York (this of course is assuming NY wins out by beating the Bengals in week 17). Are the Bengals basically in? It looks like they have pretty much guaranteed home game also unless they really screw it up!

(I wish having KC at home were a lock, but they should have steamrolled Oakland a few weeks ago)

I'm just happy that if the Patriots manage to win one of these last two, they get to host either Baltimore or Denver at home. I don't have high hopes for getting past the Divisional Round as I don't like the matchup with either Indy or San Diego, but it sure would be nice to have Denver come into New England for once.

Saints need to beat the Bucs to wrap it all up, should happen...but I hope they run for at least 150 yards...need to reestablish the run.

Steelers sign Joey Galloway to replace Limas Sweed, who was placed on IR with a "non-football illness".

If Galloway can also play CB, Steelers are set.

Strangely enough Galloway had 1 career college INT against the QB of my high school team who had 1 college pass attempt....and INT by Joey Galloway.

San Diego's overrated and Denver's been regressing to the mean. Baltimore's the one out of those 3 that really scares me (and obviously Indy, but we'd be the underdog and I'd like our chances in that role).

After losing to the Raiders do the Broncos still have a realistic shot at the playoffs? I'm assuming Philly will beat them, and that puts them out, right?

NFL-Forecast put up their Playoff probability rankings going into week 16:

Green Bay 86.88 percent chance
Dallas 62.24
Giants 50.88

And in the AFC:

Two of these eight will advance, assuming that New England (98.9 percent) and Cincinnati (98.2) lock up berths
Baltimore 77.36
Denver 71.54
Jacksonville 16.22
Pittsburgh 14.14
Jets 9.98
Miami 8.86
Houston 3.02
Tennessee 1.72

As long as Denver wins week 17 vs KC they have a pretty good shot to get in.

At 9-7 (with loss to Eagles and win over Chiefs), Denver would win tiebreaker with Dolphins (common games), Titans (conference record) and Texans (conference record); Denver would lose tiebreaker with Ravens (h2h), Jaguars (conference record), Jets (common games) and Steelers (h2h)

At 9-7 (with win over Eagles and loss to Chiefs), Denver would win tiebreaker with Titans (conference record); Denver would lose tiebreaker with Ravens (h2h), Jaguars (conference record), Dolphins (conference record), Jets (conference record) and Steelers (h2h). The Broncos tiebreaker with the Texans would be strength of victory (can't project right now).

Basically if the Broncos lose this week, you need to root for Baltimore over Pittsburgh, the Colts over the Jets and the Pats over the Jags, which are all very realistic in happening. If that happens, then Denver just has to beat KC next week and they're in.

And if Denver wins this week and loses to KC next week with a playoff birth on the line, well, then they don't deserve to go to the playoffs anyway.

So the Bengals are like a 50 to 1 shot to not make the playoffs? As a lifelong Bengal fan I think I would hedge $20 on that if it was offered in a casino. If any team could blow something like this it is them. (Obviously I think we should beat the Chiefs and also think the Ravens will probably lose to te Steelers anyways but $1000 insurance policy wouldn't be half bad)

Yep...that's what I have as the most realistic shot for the Giants. It would be great if Denver could beat them...but I dont see that happening. So...gotta hope Minnesota & Dallas both win this week to force the Dallas/Philly game to mean something...and ensure that Minnesota has nothing to gain by beating the Giants.

But if Denver can pull one off this week...things start to look very good for the Giants (well, assuming they can beat Carolina and Minnesota...which neither is a guarantee by a long shot).

Chris Johnson now has 1872 yards rushing and 2355 yards from scrimmage.

He'll need 128 rushing yards to get to 2000 next week, and only needs 74 yards from scrimmage to tie Marshall Faulk's single season record of 2429 yards.

Pats got jobbed on that "fumble" call.

Pop quiz.. if the fumble goes BACKWARDS and lands on the goalline.. has it broken the plane? :P

The Bucs are just what the Saints needed to get their offense back on track. 14-0 towards the end of the 1st.

Carolina looking great again today, up 17-0 on the Giants. Troy Aikman argued in the first quarter that this season has been John Fox's best as a coach, keeping this team playing hard late in the year after being eliminated from the playoffs, making my head explode. Remember that Delhomme was never benched, he finally got hurt and put on IR, who knows what could have happened had he been benched in week 2!! Matt Moore may not be the QB of the future but we entered "anyone but Delhomme" territory a god damn long time ago.

Yup. He also had several games where they kept trying to throw when it was obvious they needed to run to win. That took way too long for them to get back to the run and stick with it. Of course, the way Moore has been throwing the ball the last two weeks, it shows that the real issue was giving Delhomme the huge extension and sticking with him even when it was obvious he was done.

well Brohm hasn't been helped by his offensive line at all in this game, but looked like he was starting to get comfortable in the second half. Unfortunately he underthrew Terrell Owens in the end zone for an INT, but Owens didn't help matters by not even trying to break up the interception.

The Saints looked very good in the 1st quarter, but have looked generally listless after that 1st quarter. Unless they change things up quickly, I think they are 1 and done in the playoffs.
