College Football Week 8 Thread
I decided to start this one for two reasons. The first is that I figured the Missouri guys might not want to what with their loss this past weekend and imminent loss on Saturday. The other is that Texas will play as the #1 team in the nation this week for the first time since the 1984 Texas/OU game. We were #1 in the BCS ratings for one week in 2005, and of course #1 in the postseason polls. But this is the first time we've been #1 in the AP or (now) Coaches' Poll for a game in 24 years.
So, uh, good luck everybody.

For BYU it's a Thursday night game against TCU and it isn't a trap game but a dangerous one for us as it is at TCU.
We need to win this and convincingly and I want Utah to win out so when we meet them on Nov 22 the Holy War will be not only for the conference championship but for a BCS game as well.

Trust me, I think a lot of people know. It's been circled on BYU's calendar for a while and the fans have been really concerned about this game. I am even more concerned with their mobile QB.

It would be amazing to see where BYU and Utah would be in the rankings (both polls and BCS) if they manage to get through unbeaten. TCU is ranked as well, aren't they? |

Every year, Sparty comes into the Ohio State-Michigan State game as a possible contender, and every year OSU sends them into a nice 4-5 game tailspin that puts an end to that talk.
Hopefully, this year is no different.

I bear no ill-will toward MizzouRah or kcchief19 regarding this weekend's game. I'm looking forward to a competitive game against an opponent whose BCS and national title dreams will have them backed up against a wall and ready to fight.
As for the feelings towards MBBF, I hope the Horns beat Mizzou like a rented mule.

The two 3-0 in conference CUSA West teams play when UTEP visits Tulsa on Saturday. Tulsa has an explosive offense, UTEP has a struggling defense. Could be a long day for Miner fans, but the Miners have been playing inspired ball the past three weeks so it could also be a great day...

I bet he's playing the game over and over on NCAA09 on his PS3 because if he beats Oklahoma State enough times on there maybe it will reverse the reality of what really happened.

Missouri still has a shot.
Oklahoma State has to win out as does Missouri. They meet in the Big 12 Championship game and Missouri wins. National championship game is Missouri vs. Alabama or Penn St. |

I thought the post where I stated I was in Vegas 10/9-10/13 would have fended off these posts. Once again, I apologize for not 'nerding' up and interrupting my vacation to feed the pirahna on FOFC. As I mentioned in the other thread, the big picture is still firmly in place for Mizzou. If they can find a way to win in Austin on Saturday, they have a very favorable schedule and the B12 Championship in their own backyard. This year could end up looking very similar to last year with an early conference loss followed by a big stretch run. Simple game plan for Mizzou this week. Instruct Chase Daniel that he doesn't have to complete every single pass and that it's OK to throw a ball away. If he does that, we'll be just fine. |

Obviously, that's an overstatement. He completes over 70% of his passes. It's not shocking that he thinks he can complete them all. He pretty much had done exactly that up until Saturday. He'll be fine and it's much better that he gets his ego checked now when Mizzou still has a good shot at making the BCS Championship game than later on when a loss would be disasterous for Mizzou's hopes. |

Well, it might not matter if Chase plays a perfect game, because Bradford was 28 of 39 for 387 yards and 5 touchdowns and OU still lost. It is gonna take a lot more than just Daniel playing better for Mizzou.
And with the "past performance is not an indicator of future performance" disclaimer, Texas has yet to lose the week after the OU game while Mack Brown has been the coach. So he and his staff have done a good job of getting them to bounce back after the brutal losses, and getting them grounded after the huge wins.

I don't think there's any question about that. Oklahoma and Texas both exposed their opposing defenses last week as being the weaker side of the ball. There's no question that Texas will need that offense to show up again to cover for their weak secondary. Mizzou's defense was good enough to win last Saturday (under 30 points and forced 3 turnovers). If Mizzou's D plays similarly, I'm pretty confident that Daniel will perform much better and it will be a very good matchup. |

If Texas has similar athletes on their D-line as Oklahoma State, Daniel might be in a bit of trouble again. The Cowboys had a nice outside rush that seemed to rattle Chase.

It was a change from past games. For most of the games over the past 1 1/2 years, teams have tended to fall back instead of attack the offense with at least 4 rushers (and occasional blitzers). If future opponents decide to take a similar approach, it'll be interesting to see how the Mizzou offense alters its attack. Mizzou does have a couple of young linemen. They've played well overall, but I'm sure they can get rattled. |

hehehehe this seriously cracked me up. Talk about pinning the tail on the donkey.

Reports out of Clemson are that Senior QB Cullen Harper is going to have surgery on his shoulder and will be out 2-4 weeks, following the GT game. That said, Korn is still going to start against Tech, so I'm not sure why Harper is waiting - report I saw (no link, sorry) said he probably wouldn't even dress.

Good call. Totally missed that at first. In other news, YUCK, an agent (who happens to be a Clemson grad) of a certain slimy coach with a 1 year contract and a less than reputable past WAS in Clemson today. Saw with my EYES and talked to said agent (who once upon a time was in an alumni assoc with me)....but he said he wwas strictly talking and nothing was imminent.....YUCK...Please No... This is one of those games that I don't particularly like either team (sorry, Macro). Too bad a 0-0 tie is already out of the question.
Guess if I have to root for someone, I'll root for the Texas team...
