The true most wonderful time of the year (Ncaa mens Basketball tournament)

Yay.. only 2 hours to go to my favorite time of the year.. I really think this'll be the year a 16 seed scares a 1 (st joe's perhaps?)

any late thoughts?

I really think FAMU will scare Kentucky.

St. Joe's is not as weak as you think they are.

I think Vermont will give UConn a game... looking back at all the major tourney upsets, they usually happen when a small-time team has a big-time scorer who steps up in the NCAA's and totally overwhelms the opponent. Taylor Coppenrath is such a scorer.

T-minus 2 hours and 7 minutes...

Damn straight it's the best time of the year!

Time for me to get my ass down to Dallas and the UTEP hangout to watch the Miners game and have a couple of half-yards of beer...

This is going to be a great day...

I love just sitting here and watching 10 hours of basketball a day for the first weekend! It's like a religious experience. Unfortunately, this year it's tainted as I have a project due tomorrow so I'll be working the whole time I'm watching. Or at least most of the time

Agreed, this is by far my favorite sports time of the year. Just watching and waiting to see who the Cinderella teams are going to be this year (UIC) can make you a fan of the game.

FAMU, based on what I saw in the play-in game, lives and dies with hustle and the 3. That means that, on their luckiest day, they can beat any team in the country. Of course, if this is any of the other 364 days of the year, then it's Kentucky in a walkover.

My favorite part of the Madness? How a gym full of people (most there to see some team who is not playing in the 15-2 game or the 16-1 game) will get a crazy rooting interest for some small school of which they have never heard if that school happens to be within 5 points when there is less than 5 minutes to go.

Also--does Duke ever have a close first round game? They always seem to be able to win by 30 as a 1 seed.

man look at all 15 people that showed up in raleigh for florida manhatten..

this reminds me to make my plea i make every year for the ncaa to put up a open court package to watch whatever game i want at home.. instead of being stuck with local coverage or going to some crappy ass bar

I love that there's a guy named (nicknamed, presumably) Butter in this Charlotte-Texas Tech game.

EDIT: And it looks like 3 pretty competitive games to start. Go underdogs UTEP, Manhattan, and Charlotte! Go forth and destroy brackets

I think Manhattan can pull a "Kent State" and make a serious run. Florida is a dangerous team, so they gotta close them out. Solid first half (from what scores I've seen...lousy 8/9 game) GO MARCH MADNESS!!! GO UNDERDOGS!!!

Manhattan leading by 7 at the half, so you're looking pretty good there. I had Manhattan, UTEP & Dayton making it out of the first round.

Arizona? This team has no heart, and even less of a bench. They'll be done by the end of the day.

St Joe's will have accomplished something if they make it out of the first weekend. I agree with Billy Packer. This team should have never been a #1 seed after getting blown out by Xavier.

Looks like Bobby Knight might even make it out of the first round today. Up 14 at the half.

Texas Tech over Charlotte, by all appearances.

I specifically take the Thursday and Friday off every year for the first round from work. Sitting on the couch in the living room watching UTEP-Maryland at the laptop.

Man, watching this utep game.. they are fouling on nearly every defensive series.. it seems maryland is too quick for them.. but maryland is letting them hang around by not hitting free throws

Manhattan could be this year's '99 Gonzaga. They have tournament experience from last year, and are pretty athletic.

Yeah, not good. Maryland is basically turning them into a jump-shooting team on the offensive end and is taking it to the hole on them on the defensive end and drawing fouls.

Actually, now that I think about it, that Valpo Homer Drew/Bryce Drew team might be a better analogy.

UTEP might be ok if they can make some adjustments at halftime. Looked bad when they fell behind by 9, but 5 is a bit more manageable.

Nothing against Texas Tech (other than hiring the dirtbag), but I'd love to see Bobby Knight go down again in the first round.

I wanted so badly to pick against UF, but instead of studying the bracket and making sure I picked a 12 seed upset, etc., I just filled out the damn bracket in 5 minutes.

Oh well, looks like Neuheisel's got my money again this year...

Why do I listen to Conference USA homers?

I had Tech winning before a friend of mine (who goes to Marquette) absolutely guaranteed that Charlotte was better than anyone was giving them credit for.

UTEP making a great run. 7-0 run, down by 4, get the ball again after the TV time out.

They might have been better than they were given credit for, but I don't think anybody had been giving them credit.

Only team out of C-USA that I have going very far is Memphis. Bob Huggins will find a way to lose this weekend, maybe even today against a dangerous ETSU squad and nobody else just screams at me as being a Sweet 16 team.

Had Manhatten winning, though in reviewing yahoo I'd accidently taken Charlotte when I was sure I'd taken Texas Tech, thinking they'd win and even taking Emmit in the Top Gun draft. Need UTEP to pull out their game now.
