EHM: Toronto Maple Leafs, The Dynasty

Hello all, thought id start a dynasty on here, as ive reading many of your stories. Im from Toronto, and am a lifelong fan of one of the greatest franchises in professional sports. The Leafs are a religion here. Ive heard Toronto is a hockey town, well that BS. We dont care about other hockey, were a Leaf town. Heres a quick history of the Leafs leading up to me taking over:

The Toronto Maple Leafs last won the Stanley Cup in 1967. The NHL expanded from 6 to 12 teams after that year, ending the original 6 era. Harold Ballard became the owner, and pretty much drove the franchise into the ground. He dismanteld the Leafs teams of the 70's that included Daryll Sittler, Lanny MacDonald, Borje Salming, Tiger Williams, and Ian Turnbull. The leafs hit rock bottom in the 80's finishing near the bottom of the league almost every year. Still, Wendell Clark become a Leaf in 1985, and still is one of the most popular buds of all time. Ballard died in 1990, paving the way for a new era. New GM Cliff Fletcher brought in Pat Burns to coach. Grant Fuhr, Dave Andreychuck, Dave Ellett, Glenn Anderson, and Mike Foligno were added. All pale in comparison to my favourite player, Doug Gilmour, who in my opinioin, became the greatest Leaf ever(im young, so i never saw the old greats play). We had back to back final 4 appearances, and while they weren't stanley cups, leaf fans will never forget 92-94. The new era features Pat Quinn, Mats Sundin, and Curtis Joseph among others. While Joseph is gone, the Leafs have been a Cup contender for 7 years. The fan support is best in the world. Sellouts every night for 50 years. Ticket prices could all double, and they would still sell out. I will take using rosters that wre done after the trade deadline. I will lead this franchise to the promise land.

This is Toronto Maple Leafs: The Dynasty

Update: Oct-Nov 2003

The season got started with the waiver draft. We lost Clark Wilm to Buffalo, and Chad Kilger to Florida. No biggie, both suck and were not gonna play. Detroit left Kris Draper unprotected so we claimed him, although he will miss the 1st 2 months with a arm injury.

Player rankings came out. Ed Belfour is ranked as 9th best goalie. Brian Leetch is 3rd best defensman, and Mats Sundin and Ron Francis are 8th and 10th best center’s.

Once pre-season ended, we sent Tyson Marsh, and Ian White back to Junior

7-10-2003- Owen Nolan won the first player of the week for the season with a goal and 3 assists in 2 games. We beat Boston 5-4, and lost to SJ 6-5. Looks like some high scoring games this year.

9-10-2003- Atlanta Thrashers traded center Brad Schell, defenseman Tomas Kloucek and center Rylan Kaip to Detroit Red Wings for center Pavel Datsyuk

Wow, Datsyuk is gonna be good, don’t know what Detroit is thinking here. They don’t really need Kloucek

11-10-2003- Buffalo Sabres traded left wing Thomas Vanek and right wing Ales Kotalik to Philadelphia Flyers for defenseman Joni Pitkänen

Another wow. Two big time prospect. Pitkanen could be a future Norris trophy winner, and Vanek, looks like a possible Franchise player

Ed Belfour records 3 straight shutouts, beating Ottawa, Washington, and Pittsburgh

I started Matt Stajan in the minors, but had to call him up when Tie Domi suffered a injury. I cant send Stajan back down now, because he is still Junior age, so he will stay with the big club, and Aki Berg goes down.

4-11-2003- Pittsburgh Penguins traded left wing Sergei Anshakov and center Erik Christensen to Philadelphia Flyers for center Alex Zhamnov

When healthy, Philly doesn’t need him, but I guess Pittsburgh aint cutting costs anymore

Mikael Renberg is complaining. He wants more ice time. I told him to shut up. This is a team with amazing depth, and he should take what he can get.

10-11-2003- Mogilny gets a natural hat trick in a 5-4 win over Boston

We are seeing a great battle down on the farm for the Leafs goalie of the Future. Tellqvist is 7-3 with a 1.49gaa, and a .921sp. Sebastian Centomo is 3-1-1 with a 1.38gaa, a .937sp

Robert Reichel now wants more ice team. These guys have to remember, it’s a team game.

12-11-2003- Media praises the Toronto Maple Leafs
The Toronto Maple Leafs are flying high with a 13 game undefeated streak. Toronto Maple Leafs center Robert Reichel commented about their recent success. “Let's face it, we've got a great core of guys here, some real strong young guys and a good squad of leaders. If every team had that then they'd do just as good.”

We like media attention, but of course, once we get attention, the streak ends. Carolina beats us 5-3 two nights later

18-11-2003- all 6 goals in a 5-1 leaf win over Florida are scored on the powerplay.

Both Tie Domi and Renberg are complaining about ice time now after a loss to Ottawa. I hate Ottawa. I mean I really hate Ottawa, dirtiest team in the NHL. Back to the complainers, they got a point, each played just 5 ½ minutes against Ottawa. Ill give them a little more to shut them up. BTW, Alex Mogilny got his 1000th point against Ottawa, congrats.

Renberg and Reichel are both on the trade block, both are sucking this year. Sure its because they get no ice time, but that’s there problem.

26-11-2003- Kris Draper is finally healthy, which means I must make a roster move. I can send Matt Stajan back to Junior, which I don’t want to do, I can make a trade, but don’t want to just yet, or send Mikael Renberg down to the minors. Renberg went unclaimed in the waiver draft, so he doesn’t have to clear waivers. Renberg goes to St Johns.

At the end of December, we stand 14-5-1-4, with 33 points, 1st place in the east

Dec 03- Jan 04

02-12-2003- Kris Draper plays his first game in the blue and white. He throws 3 hits in 10 minutes of action as the Leafs beat the Islanders 4-2

2-12-2003- Toronto Maple Leafs trade rumoured
Buffalo Sabres are rumoured to be planning a trade sending center Clarke Wilm to Toronto Maple Leafs for center Robert Reichel and TOR 3rd round pick in 2004 draft

This just made me laugh, if I wanted Wilm, I would of protected him instead of Reichel

05-12-2003- Owen Nolan has a amazing game. 3 goals, 1 assist, 13 shots on goal, for hits thrown, in 21 minutes. First star win a 5-2 win over Pittsburgh

Drake Berehowsky just told me he doesn’t like sitting. GOOD, you shouldn’t like sitting, if you played better, you wouldn’t be sitting. He hasn’t played bad, but we got to keep all 8 of our defenseman happy, so he sits for a while.

9-12-2003 Player of the week: Ron Francis (C)
NHL has awarded Ron Francis (C) of Toronto Maple Leafs as Player Of The Week He registered 4 goals and 3 assists for 7 points in 4 games last week. He also had 2 game winning goals

12-12-2003- Buffalo fires both Head coach Lindy Ruff and GM Darcy Reiger. The new coach is George Burnett and the new GM is Kaj Johansson. I have no idea who that is.

16-12-2003- We outshoot Philly 39-10, beating them 3-0. Easy shutout #6 this year for Eddie Belfour

20-12-2003- Toronto Maple Leafs traded Petr Tenkrat, Mikael Renberg and Robert Reichel to New Jersey Devils for Zach Parise

Zach Parise is a year or 2 away from playing regularly in the NHL, but I wanted him. We didn’t have to give up a lot though. Renberg, and Reichel are NHL regulars, and Tenkrat is a fringe NHLer still young enough to make it. Parise has 24 points in 10 games at the university of North Dakota this year.

22-12-2003 Toronto Maple Leafs trade rumoured
New York Rangers are rumoured to be planning a trade sending center Mark Messier and NYR 3rd round pick in 2005 draft to Toronto Maple Leafs for defenseman Bryan Marchment

That’s interesting, id be stupid not to consider it

1-01-2004- Good news, Maple Leaf Sports and Entertainment (they own the Leafs) reported a profit of almost 4 mil last month.

2-01-2004- Joe Thorton just signed a 1 year 10 million dollar extension. Anson Carter and Eric Daze also re-upped with the Kings and Hawks respectively

3-1-2004 Toronto Maple Leafs players selected to World Junior Championships
-Jan Chovan (SVK)
-Martin Sagat (SVK)
-Alexander Steen (SWE)
-Ivan Kolozvary (SVK)
-Zach Parise (USA)
-John Doherty (USA)
-Konstantin Volkov (RUS)

6-1-2004 Joe Nieuwendyk (TOR) suffered knee injury during the game in an incident with Mikko Eloranta (MTL).

This aint good, Joe hasn’t had the best season, but he’s out for 2 months, and he’s old, at 37, sitting wont help. Alexi Ponikerovsky will take his place on the roster. BTW we lost the game 4-1.

A lot of big names are signing extensions, too many to mention

9-1-2004- Phoenix fires coach Bobby Francis and GM Bobby Smith. John Muckler and Rick Dudley take over

16-1-2004- Canada wins the gold in the World Juniors!!!! YAAAAA GO CANADA
Zach Parise finishes 2nd in tournament scoring with 12 points. Prized prospect Alexandre Ovechkin finishes with 8.

17-1-2004- Robert Reichel has 10 points in 12 games with the Devils. Surprisingly, Renberg is on the farm…..still

19-1-2004- Brian Leetch is voted as a starter for the North American all-star team. Mats Sundin will start at center for the World team. Alexander Mogilny will be a reserve. Here are the starters:
World- Jagr, Sundin, Naslund, Zubov, Andrei Markov, and Aebisher
NA- Hull, Thornton, Shanahan, Blake, Leetch, and Bordeur

Ed Belfour isn’t selected which is BS. He’s been amazing this year. 7 frickin shutouts, come on…

27-1-2004 Ny Rangers finally fired Glen Sather and Ron Low. Taking over are Jesper Nyberg, and Paul Holmgreen, two guys ive never heard of.

Well you did allow 8 goals to Colorado Kidd.

March 13th trade deadline- end of the regular season

Here are the major moves made at the trade deadline.

Calgary Flames traded right wing Ville Nieminen and goaltender Miikka Kiprusoff to Los Angeles Kings for left wing Eric Belanger and LA 4th round pick in 2004 draft

Interesting, LA has Checkmanek, but Nieminen has struggled this year, and Belanger has played very well and is just 26.

Edmonton Oilers traded defenseman Rumun Ndur and center Fredrik Johansson to Los Angeles Kings for left wing Luc Robitaille and defenseman Mike Gabinet

Lucky Luc to Edmonton. He’s retiring with 40 points so far this year.

New York Islanders traded defenseman Mathieu Dandenault, goaltender Brad Topping and right wing Igor Volkov to Phoenix Coyotes for right wing Fredrik Sjöström

San Jose Sharks traded defenseman Scott Hannan and left wing Rob Millar to Vancouver Canucks for right wing Brian Gionta

San Jose kept trying to unload Hannan on me.

Phoenix Coyotes traded defenseman Brad Ference, center David Klema and right wing Loic Burkhalter to Detroit Red Wings for left wing Vitali Yachmenev

That’s pretty much it, kind of a quiet day. We didn’t make any moves as we have all kinds of depth, and don’t need to add anyone

21-03-2004- Mats Sundin scored the 1100th point of his career in tonight's game against the Phoenix Coyotes on a feed by Bryan McCabe. In a game like this, it was nice to set that milestone, he commented and was all smiles.

Gary Roberts scored the 400th goal of his career in tonight's game against the Phoenix Coyotes on a feed by Alexander Mogilny. Hopefully one day this puck will end up in the Hall of Fame, he commented after giving the puck to a fan.

Congrats to both, two great hockey players

03-04-2004- Trevor Kidd makes 3 straight starts, giving Ed Belfour a little rest before the playoffs begin. All wins. With 2 games remaining, we are tied with Phiily for 1st in the east

6-4-2004- In a battle for first, we beat Philly 3-1 to move a point ahead of them with 1 game to go

7-4-2004- We finish in 1st place in the east beating Philly by 3 points. Here are the final standings:

1st round of the playoffs

Media says Leafs will sweep NY 4 straight

I have to decide what 2 defensmen to sit. I’m gonna sit Pilar, and Berehowsky, and go with experience and play Johansson and Marchement.

Game 1: Yashin injured, wont play in game 1 or 2…..Ny took a 2-0 lead after the first….Owen Nolan got a pp goal, but Mike Peca answered 2 minutes later….10 mins left in 3rd, Sundin makes it 3-2 on our 39th shot of the game….Trent Hunter goes off for tripping with 4 mins remaining, this is our chance to tie it…..we don’t get one shot on the pp play….Final: 3-2 NY

Game 2: Dave Scatchard scores a short handed goal in the 2nd minute, Alexander Mogilny ties it late in the Period…..We get 3 goals in 5 minutes to go up 4-1….Nik Antropov caps off a dominant win….Final: 5-1 Tor

Just saw Lindy Ruff got fired for the second time this year. Columbus didn’t give him much time. Detroit is going with Hasek, they lead series 2-1.

Game 3: After exchanging early goals, Tie Domi give us a 2-1 lead…..Tie Domi gets his second of the game, and Yashins 1st of the series isn’t enough…..Final 3-2 Tor

Colorado sweeps LA….told you it would be easy….

Game 4: Antropov gets only goal in the first…..Peca ties it, but Ron Francis gets his 1st for a 2-1 leaf lead after 2….. Islanders have nothing in the 3rd….we got them right where we want them…..Final: 3-1 Tor

Dallas ends the Flames dreams, 4 games to 1…Leaf bluechip prospect Alexander Steen has been chosen to represent Sweden at the 2004 world championships held in Norway.

Game 5: Peca scores shorthanded, we got to do something about that, but Draper and Antropov told him to shutup with goals of there own….Islanders get only 3 shots in the 2nd, but no goals…..its do or die time for them……and they do….Jason Blake ties it with 10 minutes left….but Ron Francis scores 30 seconds later…..and empty netter ices it….Final: 4-2 Tor……Leafs win series 4 games to 1

Damn Senators beat Jersey in 5, while Boston takes out Atlanta in 5. I just noticed that all 6 Canadian teams made the playoffs…..thats great, of course they are not all gonna advance

Anaheim eliminates Vancouver in 6….and Edmonton is doing it again, down 3 games to 1, they have come back to tie it at 3. Montreal eliminates Philly in 6, big upset…

With Curtis Joseph in net for Hasek, Tomas Holstrom scored with 2 minutes remaining to send the game into overtime….where Ethan Moreau became a Oiler hero scoring a shorthanded goal to add another miracle to the Oilers playoff history.

2nd Round Matchups:
Toronto vs. Montreal- the greatest rivals ever
Ottawa vs. Boston- Go Boston
Colorado vs. Edmonton- Canthe Oilers play David again
Dallas vs. Anaheim- Stars looking for revenge from last year

2nd round of the playoffs

First, the NHL award nominations have come out. Pat Quinn is up for the Jack Adams Trophy(Coach of the year). Mats Sundin is up for the Hart Trophy(MVP) and Bryan McCabe is up for the Norris Trophy(Best Defenseman

The media is predicting we will beat the Habs in 5.

Game 1: Montreal dominates the first, taking a 1-0 lead on Richard Zednik’s 3rd of the playoffs…..Joe Nieuwendyk and Alexi Ponikarovsky each score shorthanded goals in the 2nd…..Craig Rivet ties it early in the 3rd period……Ron Francis and Joe Juneau exchange markers….3-3, 5 minutes left…..Habs cant score on a late powerplay…we have OT!!!!....Andreas Dackell wins it for Montreal just 1:28 into the extra frame….Final: 4-3 Mon in OT

Game 2: Bulis opens the scoring, but Gary Roberts and Joe Nieuwendyk respond, 2-1 Tor after 1…..no scoring in the 2nd……Mike Komisarek ties it early in the 3rd…..Owen Nolan and Joe Juneau exchange goals….This looks like a carbon copy of game 1….which aint good…..Sundin gets a BS tripping call with 1:30 left….We go to OT again with Montreal on the powerplay….they don’t score…..Montreal seems to be dominating the OT….we can’t get the puck in there zone….Alexi Kovalev gets called for hooking at the 10 minute mark….Habs keep blocking our shots, come on you bums, they kill the penalty….Theodore robs Roberts with a glove save after Roberts tried to put a rebound up high….Sundin goes off for boarding….Sundin steps out of the penalty box, gets a pass from Fitzgerald, moves in on net, and rips it by Theodore at the 17:13 mark….Final: 4-3 Tor in OT

Brain Leetch played 40 mins in the last game, hope were not wearing him out…Team Canada beat Slovakia to capture the 2004 world championship!!!! YEAAAA…Alexander Steen went pointless in the 2 games he played for Sweden….

Game 3: Kovalev with the only goal in the 1st….Mogilny ties it on the powerplay, but Dackell gives the lead back to Montreal….Roberts ties it 18 seconds into the third….Mogilny’s 2nd of the game has us up 3-2…..Darcy Tucker gives Montreal a chance with a hooking call late….Habs pull Theodore with 2 mins left….they cant score….Final: 3-2 Tor

Great series so far….Boston up 2-1 over Ottawa…Edmonton avoids the sweep with a game for win over Colorado, but Anaheim cant do the same, their done in 4.

Game 4: Mogilny and McCabe score 30 seconds apart…..Leetch makes it 3-0 after 2…..Kovalev ignites a amazing comeback, as Montreal scores 3 straight to tie it in the third…Tucker tries to jump start the Leafs, but gets beat up Karl Dykhuis, that’s not right....7 mins left….OT AGAIN!!!!...Theodore turns the puck over behind the net, Nolan passes it infront to Francis who taps it into the open net, while Theodore makes a desperate effort to dive infront of it……Final: 4-3 Tor in OT

Mogilny and Tucker both got hurt in game 4….Mogilny is day to day, but Tucker is out for a month….Dykhuis did this…he must pay….Im calling up Wade Belak and Nathon Perrott…Stajan, who was already up and Belak will play game 5…Colorado crushes the Oilers, eliminating them 4-1…

Game 5: Joe Nieuwendyk opens the scoring, but former Leaf Yanic Perrault ties it at one…Ponikarovsky gets his 2nd short handed goal of the playoffs….Owen Nolan adds some insurance, but the Habs aren’t done yet, as Koivu makes it a one goal game with 6 ½ minutes left….but they cant get any closer….Final: 3-2 Tor…Leafs win Series 4-1

Ottawa is 1 win away from playing there most hated rivals….In a move I cant believe, the NHL has suspended Owen Nolan 3 games for injuring Jason Ward.. Sure, Ward is out for 2 months, but there done, who cares……

Boston folds under the pressure, and the Leafs will play the hated Ottawa Senators in the semi’s….Ottawa hates Toronto, we have eliminated them from the playoffs 3 of the last 4 years, soon it will be 4 out of 5…..The other matchup is Colorado and Dallas….

3rd round of the playoffs

Ottawa is predicted to win the series in 6…Nolan will miss the first 3 games because of the suspension, but Mogilny is back for game 1…

Game 1: Mike Fisher, and Tomas Kaberle make it 1-1 early, then Rob Ray of all people scores a sh goal. Come on, its not hard to stop Rob Ray, pathetic….we cant get any closer in the 2nd…..Antropov ties it, Bondra gives Ottawa the lead back, and Joey Nieuwendyk, gets another clutch goal to tie it with 10 mins left….Ottawa gets a late powerplay, and Bondra gets robbed not once, but twice right in front of the net by the eagle.....Radek Bonk gets called for hooking with just 50 seconds remaining….OT…..19 seconds in, Gary Roberts ends it, a pp goal…Final: 4-3 Tor in OT

Game 2: Vaclav Varada scores the only goal in the first…..Havlat and Smolinski make it 3-0….Can we rally…Leetch scores to make it 3-1….but that’s it…..Final: 3-1 Ott

Game 3: Gary Roberts gets his 6th of the playoffs shorthanded, as we lead 1-0 after 1, but get just 4 shots….Bryan Smolinski evens it up….and Redden gives Ottawa the lead….Radek Bonk scores early in the 3rd……Joe Nieuwendyk makes it a one goal game with 3 mins left…..Sundin is stoned in what looks like our last chance on a one-timer, Lalime holds the puck…..Sundin wins the draw, and in one motion, Roberts unleashes a wrist shot that gets through Lalimes pads with just 6 seconds left….OT!!!!.....at the 5:02 minute mark Nik Antropov converts a sweet pass from Rony Francis….Final: 4-3 Tor in OT

Owen Nolan has served his BS suspension…Kris Draper is day to day…Colorado sweeps away Dallas, to win the West…

Game 4: Draper wont play today…Joe Nieuwendyk scores another sh goal….Chris Phillips ties it at 1, after 2 periods…..Hossa and Mogilny score early…but Antoine Vermette scores to put Ottawa up….Todd White puts it away for Ottawa….Final: 4-2 Ott

Series tied at 2

Game 5: Marchement is out, Berehowsky is in….Draper isn’t ready yet….Smolinski, who seems to be killing us, and Sundin are the 1st period scorers….Hossa with a late 2nd period goal, gives Ottawa a 2-1 lead….Hossa makes it 3-1, but Brian Leetch immediately responds….Ottawa holds on to go up 3 games to 2…Final: 3-2 Ott

Game 6: Our first must win, Draper back in….Not a good start, Todd White scores and were outshot 12-4….Hossa gets 2 more, 3-0….we’re in trouble….Roberts makes it 3-1….15 mins left…we get 2 more powerplays but cant score….Final: 3-1 Ott

Damn, this is embarrassing, how could we loose to the Sens…I hate them….Go Colorado

Here are the award winners:
Well I cant seem to find where they are listed again, and I didn’t write them down right away. I remember:
Hart Trophy(MVP)- Vaclav Prospal, Ana
Jennings(fewest goals allowed)- Ed Belfour, Tor
Vezina(Best Goalie)- Ed Belfour, Tor

That’s all I remember…

Carlo Colaiacovo and Kyle Wellwood were each named as 2nd team AHL all-stars…
Mats Sundin and Brian Leetch were both named 1st team NHL all-stars…

NHL Draft coming up, heres what happened
1. Washington Capitals select Alexander Ovechkin- roy candidate, franchise player, will dominate for a while
2. Columbus Blue Jackets select Evgeny Malkin
3. Chicago Black Hawks select D Cam Barker
Now our picks:
29. Aki Seitsonen 5*- great offensive potential, great defensive skills. Think Jere Lehtinen with more scoring
59. Mike Card 4*- offensive defenceman. Think Bryan McCabe
89. Tommy Enstrom 5*- all around offensive player- Think a young Robert Reichel
119. Alexander Tang 5*- offensive defenseman. Hopefully in the mold of Borje Salming
149. Alfons Cajender 4*- stay at home defenseman. A poor man’s Calle Johansson

Not a bad draft, very happy with my first 2 picks…

2004 off season

Ed Belfour is gonna test the market, hopefully we’ll get him back
Kris Draper wants almost 3 mil….Bye
Trevor Kidd will not be back, I want Tellqvist or Centomo as backup
We give qualifying offers to Antropov, Tucker, Kaberle, Berg, McCabe, Ponikarovsky, and a bunch of minor leaguers
We re-sign 3 scouts, including former Leaf captain and coach, George Armstrong
Kaberle and Klee sign…
Antropov and McCabe sign….
Tucker and Pilar sign

Ron Francis, Joe Nieuwendyk, Calle Johansson, Tom Fitzgerald and Brian Marchment, all retire from the NHL

Vincent Damphousse, Dominik Hasek, Steve Thomas, Adam Oates, Mark Recchi, Scott Stevens, Luc Robitaille, and Chris Chelios among the bigger names to call it a career

We are having trouble getting Mikael Tellqvist signed. His rights are mine because I made the minimum qualifying offer, but I want a two-way contract, and he wont sign one. Im not paying him 2 mil in the minors if Centomo wins the backup job….

I give in and sign Tellqvist for 1.9mil over 2 years, no two way contract….

I want another center, Craig Conroy interests me, but not at 4 mil a year, I offer Mike Sillinger a 2 year deal worth 2 mil….

The Preseason begins, without Ed Belfour, and Sillinger has not signed yet….We will play our youngsters a lot here, don’t care if we win or lose….Colaiacovo will be given every opportunity to make the team. Zach Parise will also have a chance, but id like him to spend a whole season in the minors….

Mike Sillinger signs, now we want Eddie back…and he signs, a 1 year deal worth 7 mil…

We have a nice crop of youngsters that will hopefully make up the core of this team in a few years. Zach Parise, Matt Stajan, Alexander Steen, Kyle Wellwood, Nathan Barrett, Carlo Colaiacovo, John Doherty, Jay Harrison, Dominic D’amour, Tellqvist, and Centomo

6-9-2004 Keith Primeau agrees on a contract with New Jersey Devils.
Keith Primeau has signed a $3,500,000 per year, 2 year deal with the New Jersey Devils. Detailed financial terms of the deal were not announced.

15-9-2004 Alex Zhamnov agrees on a contract with Philadelphia Flyers.
Alex Zhamnov has signed a $3,500,000 per year, 4 year deal with the Philadelphia Flyers. Detailed financial terms of the deal were not announced.

Mark Messier, Mario Lemiuex, and Steve Yzerman all return to there rightful teams, NY, Pittsburgh, and Detroit, after a little help from me….

In our last preseason game, NJ out shoots us 53-12, but they only beat us 2-1…

Its time for the waiver draft, and I’m probably gonna lose someone…lets see
We claim Mike Rathje, he’s a solid defenseman, and with the losses of Johannson, and Marchement, he adds depth. We don’t lose anyone…

Brian Leetch is ranked as the 4th best defenseman in the NHL….Mats Sundin is listed 10th at center…

Next, find out who made this years roster…

Center
Mats Sundin- coming off a 100 point season
Matt Stajan- will have more of a opportunity to put up points this year
Mike Sillinger- 3rd liner, good defense, a depth center
Josh Holden- Deserves a chance, can’t send him down without clearing waivers
Harold Druken- See Josh Holden

Wing
Alexander Mogilny- Super season, will continue to dominate
Owen Nolan- 70 points from a great player
Wade Belak- nothing but a 4th line enforcer
Darcy Tucker- Must rebound from last years disaster, will play on second line
Tie Domi- Had a good year, I’d like him to get in more fights
Alexi Ponikarovsky- Getting better, could score 20 if everything goes his way
Nik Antropov- needs to keep improving, ill play him with Nolan
Gary Roberts- Still the teams heart and soul

Defense
Brian Leetch- Teams best defenseman, plays great with McCabe
Bryan McCabe- Nominated for Norris last year, what else can I say
Tomas Kaberle- Not scoring as much now the Leetch and McCabe do it
Carlo Colaiacovo- Hopefully will challenge for rookie of the year
Ken Klee- Steady, solid, nice piece of the puzzle
Karel Pilar- he also needs to keep improving
Mike Rathje- waiver pickup, tough, d-minded

Goalie
Ed Belfour- at 39, hope last years top goalie has not lost anything
Mikael Tellqvist- outplayed by Centomo in training camp, but money and waiver situation forces me to play him in the pros

Unfortunatly, I had to send Pierre Hedin down, and he got scooped up off waivers by Carolina

2-10-2004 Craig Conroy agrees on a contract.
Craig Conroy has signed a $2,300,000 per year, 2 year deal with the Vancouver Canucks. Detailed terms of the deal were not announced.

New Jersey Devils signed UFA Mariusz Czerkawski to a 3 year deal

5-10-2004 Brian Leetch reaches a milestone !
Brian Leetch scored the 1000th point of his career in tonight's game against the Ottawa Senators on a goal by Alexander Mogilny. Now I am officialy with the big boys, was the comment released to the press after the game.. We lost to Ottawa 4-3

9-10-2004- Mats Sundin gets a hat trick for our 1st win of the season, a 4-2 win over Florida. Tellqvist was in net

12-10-2004- Jarome Iginla (CGY) suffered thigh injury during the game in an incident with Ed Jovanovski (VAN). He is expected to be sidelined for a couple of months. Sometimes Mr. Murphy just keeps on coming back for more, this time it was me who had to take the honors, he commented to the media. Jovanovski has been suspended for 4 games

20-10-2004- outscored 15-2 in our last 2 games….somethings wrong with this team….

26-10-2004- Alexander Ovechkin gets his first NHL goal, in a 5-2 Leaf win

04-11-2004- Mats Sundin gets 5 points, 2 goals, and 3 assists in a come from behind 6-4 win over Atlanta….Our defense has been good, allowing low shot totals, but our goaltending has been awful….Belfour needs to be better….

12-11-2004 Team captain meets with Matt Stajan
Team captain Mats Sundin called a short meeting with Matt Stajan after practice today to discuss some issues that have affected his play. I guess they needed someone to take the blame..., said Matt Stajan as he left the ice, ...but I'll take it like a man

16-11-2004 Alexander Mogilny reaches a milestone !
Alexander Mogilny scored the 500th goal of his career in tonight's game against the New Jersey Devils on a feed by Alexei Ponikarovsky. I wonder how all those 'experts' who gave me no chance to make the NHL feel now, he said after the game.

Mogilny is a sure fire hall of famer now, scoring number 500, quite a accomplishment….

18-11-2004 NJ-PHO trade
New Jersey Devils traded center Eric Johansson to Phoenix Coyotes for center Eric Himelfarb

I only mention this because I played hockey with Eric Himelfarb’s brother

25-11-2004 Theoren Fleury has signed a $4,500,000 per year, 1 year deal with the Toronto Maple Leafs.

I signed Theo so he could help out in the minors. I wanted someone who could help Parise, Wellwood and Steen. He’ll score at the minor league level. It’s also a two-way contract, so it will cost me nothing….

We are 11-9-1-3, for 26 points…7th place in the east

4-12-2004 Steve Yzerman injured.
Steve Yzerman (DET) suffered arm injury during the game in an incident with Fedor Fedorov (VAN). He is expected to be sidelined for at least three months. Give me a break please, I don't want to talk about my injury now, he said to the press.

Fedorov got 8 games, but I think he should have got more, you don’t go after legends like that…

I moved Josh Holden up to the second line to see if I could get any offense from him. He’s a offensive player, so playing him on line 3 or 4 was a waste…Darcy Tucker, who wasn’t lighting up the league is now on line 3….

For some reason I didn’t notice that Jason Spezza was traded to Columbus…..last year…..Ottawa is stupid, but I like this move for Spezza, it gets him out of that rat hole Ottawa…..the trade was: CBS traded defenseman Dmitri Kosmachev, right wing Daniel Cleary and defenseman Trevor Hendrikx to OTT for center Jason Spezza

21-12-2004 Team captain clashes with Aki Berg
Team captain Mats Sundin finally broke the silence in the locker room today when he pointed out the less than stellar play of Aki Berg. If he wants to play for this team, he should be ready to chip in, said the team captain.

Aki, you will lose everytime if you challenge Mats, maybe its time to shop Aki….

23-12-2004 League suspends Martin Lapointe
The league board has suspended Boston Bruins player Martin Lapointe for 11 games for injuring Mikko Eloranta of Montreal Canadiens.

That’s the longest suspension I have ever seen….Lapointe got a 10 gamer as well last April….

27-12-2004 Darcy Tucker injured.
Darcy Tucker (TOR) suffered leg injury during the game in an incident with Dave Scatchard (NYI). He is expected to be sidelined indefinitely. You can't even imagine how much it hurts, but I am a tough guy and I'll take it like a man

30-12-2004 Bryan McCabe injured.
Bryan McCabe (TOR) suffered groin injury during the game in an incident with Jeff O'Neill (CAR). He is expected to be sidelined for more than a month. I am sure the doc will fix it and get me back in action in abouth a month, he murmured as he grimaced in pain.

This is a big blow, McCabe is a real leader and a key part of this team….

2-1-2005 The world junior championships are about to start…This year, the tournament is being held in Minnesota….Canada is favoured to take the gold…Leaf prospects invited to participate:
-Martin Sagat (SVK)
-Aki Seitsonen (FIN)
-Konstantin Volkov (RUS)

I took a look at the free agent pool and found 3 youngsters that may have been overlooked by other teams. We signed 21 year old goalie, Steve Belanger, 25 year old, forward, Toni Dahlman, who will probably help St. Johns more then Toronto, and 22 year old forward, Scott Horvath, who played junior hockey in Toronto….

16-1-2005 Team Russia wins World Junior Championship
Team Russia has beaten Team Canada in the final of the 2005 World Junior Championships.

Martin Sagat had 8 points in 4 games for Slovaki…
Aki Seitsonen had 7 points in 4 games for Finland….
Konstantin Volkow had 5 goals in 6 games for Russia…

18-1-2005 Brian Leetch has been voted to start for the North American All-star team. Mats Sundin was chosen as a reserve for the world team.

The starters are: NA- Heatly, Lemieux, Kariya, Leetch, Redden, Theodore
World- Jagr, Forsberg, Kovalchuck, Lidstrom, Zubov, Aebischer

After 53 games, we are 23-23-2-5. for 53 points, tied for 8th place in the east….we better do something to turn this season around, or we may miss the playoffs….

Fedorov got 8 games, but I think he should have got more, you don’t go after legends like that…

Do you think Sergi called up his brother and bitched him out?

23-12-2004 League suspends Martin Lapointe
The league board has suspended Boston Bruins player Martin Lapointe for 11 games for injuring Mikko Eloranta of Montreal Canadiens.

One Bruin who never delivered injures a former Bruin who never delivered.

Ya, I think Fedor was acting on his brother's behalf, after getting advise from that bum Bertuzzi, andMartin Lapointe seems to be a goon in this game, he's lost 21 games over 2 years to suspensions.....

Thanks for reading

Jan 05- March 13 trade deadline..

We started off the month by hiring a few new scouts, we are the Toronto Maple Leafs, we have the money, so were gonna spend it on the best…..

14-2-2005 NHL All-Star Skill Competitions
The annual All-Star event kicked off today with the skill competitions. Team North America and Team World competed in six different races and the fans got to see their stars shine.

Team North America won the puck control relay with a team of Paul Kariya, Mike Modano and Brian Leetch.

Joe Thornton of Team North America won the fastest skater competition, beating Peter Forsberg in the final.

Jaromir Jagr of Team World won the hardest shot competition with a result of 96 MPH, beating Ed Jovanovski in the final.

Paul Kariya of Team North America won the accuracy shooting competition, beating Ilya Kovalchuk in the final.

Patrick Lalime of Team North America won the goalie competition (pass&score), beating Tomas Vokoun in the final.

Team World won the breakaway relay with a team of Jaromir Jagr, Markus Näslund and Ilya Kovalchuk.

15-2-2005 North America beat the World 13-11, as Peter Forsberg collected 2 goals and 3 assists to win MVP

24-2-2005 VAN-STL trade
Vancouver Canucks traded defenseman Josef Melichar, right wing Darren Lynch, right wing Kevin Estrada and left wing Detlev Jancke to St. Louis Blues for center Doug Weight

Blockbuster…..Jancke was a first round pick, but Weight goes for pretty much nothing, very interesting, Canucks look like they want to make a run….Canucks were criticized by the media earlier that day, after losing 7 in a row….

24-2-2005 TB-NYR trade
Tampa Bay Lightning traded Sheldon Keefe to New York Rangers for St. Louis Blues 2nd round pick in 2006 draft

Minor deal, but Keefes a good player….

Tomas Kaberle thinks he’s a franchise player….I disagree, wonder if I could get anything for him……hmmm

1-3-2005 Mats Sundin reaches a milestone !
Mats Sundin scored the 500th goal of his career in tonight's game against the Carolina Hurricanes on a feed by Owen Nolan. My parents came to see this game so I just had to deliver, ha said before his teammates picked him up on their shoulders.

Congrats

I moved Alexi Ponikerovsky to the 2nd line a while ago to play with Nik Antropov, and Owen Nolan, and he looks like super player now. AP was struggling, but all of a sudden, he scores, hits, plays solid D, everything I was expecting for him, a breakout season….

7-3-2005 Mikael Renberg agrees on a contract.
Mikael Renberg has signed a $800,000 per year, 1 year deal with the Toronto Maple Leafs. Detailed terms of the deal were not announced.

Depth move, he was available, and I don’t want to play Belak, Perrott, Holden, and Druken all at the same time….

10-3-2005 Ted Nolan fired
Chicago Blackhawks have fired head coach Ted Nolan in order to shake up the team and get it out of the losing streak. The team has announced that Dave Allison will be taking over the position.

I forgot to mention he was hired..hehe…..although it didn’t last too long…

I am officially going after Eric Lindros, and Jamie Lundmark….Lindros because he belongs in a Leaf Jersey, Lundmark, because the Rangers will probably ruin him, and he could be pretty good…..

11-3-2005 Toronto Maple Leafs trade rumoured
Toronto Maple Leafs are rumoured to be planning a trade sending defenseman Aki Berg and center Harold Druken to Anaheim Mighty Ducks for right wing Mike LeClerc and ANA 2nd round pick in 2006 draft

This is a great idea, hold on, im gonna try it….

The trade deadline is upon us….Ill update it next

Weve gone on a run, and are now 35-26-2-6, for 78 points…8th in the east

March 13 trade deadline- end of regular season

13-3-2005 Toronto Maple Leafs trade
Toronto Maple Leafs traded Aki Berg and Harold Druken to Anaheim Mighty Ducks for Mike LeClerc

Too good not to do, LeClerc is having a good season, and will help our team, my type of player. Druken needs to play on a offensive line, and Berg is still young, and will be part of their top 6…..

14-3-2005 BUF-CAR trade
Buffalo Sabres traded left wing Miroslav Satan and defenseman Dmitri Kalinin to Carolina Hurricanes for right wing Erik Cole

That’s a big one, Satan and Cole are struggling this year

14-3-2005 EDM-TB trade
Edmonton Oilers traded left wing Brock Radunske, right wing Zachery Stortini, defenseman Matt Greene and right wing Craig Kennedy to Tampa Bay Lightning for right wing Martin St-Louis

Cant believe they gave up St-Louis. Storini has 60 goals in junior this year….interesting….

13-3-2005 MIN-NJ trade
Minnesota Wild traded center Wes Walz to New Jersey Devils for defenseman Colin White and right wing Teemu Laine

A physical defenseman for a defensive forward…..

13-3-2005 DET-WSH trade
Detroit Red Wings traded defenseman Brad Ference and right wing Jason Williams to Washington Capitals for goaltender Maxime Ouellet

Does Detroit need a goalie, you bet, CuJo is getting old…

13-3-2005 CAR-EDM trade
Carolina Hurricanes traded center Carl Söderberg, right wing Tomas Kurka and right wing John Nail to Edmonton Oilers for defenseman Eric Brewer and EDM 4th round pick in 2005 draft

I wouldn’t mind having Brewer….

That’s all the trades worth mentioning, pretty good deadline deals I think….

I sent Matt Stajan down, so he could play on the top line with Fleury and Parise….Hopefully, this will help him develop a little better, by playing more….

30-03-2005- Just got word that Darcy Tucker, who’s been out 3 months already with a leg injury, will be out another 6 months….This is a very serious injury….Hopefully, he will be able to return, and this doesn’t ruin his career…..

2-4-2005 Brian Leetch signed a one year extension to stay with the Leafs next year….worth 7.5 mil…we had to keep him around….

2-5-2005 Gary Roberts signs a one year extension worth 2.2 mil….just as valuable as Leetch….

We lose our last 2 games, but settle into the playoffs fairly easily….here are the final standings….

1) Wins
2) Points obtained in games between tied teams
3) goal difference

Even if they didn't beat you on point #2, they certainly beat you on goal differential +29 to +15

1st round of the playoffs….

I just want to mention the Rangers have missed the playoffs for 8 years, hell, even Calgary made it last year….

NJ is predicted to beat us in 5….we’ll show em….

Game 1: Friesen with the 1st goal of the series…1-0 after 1….Somehow, Carlo Colaiacovo scores shorthanded to tie it at one, heading into the 3rd……Elias and Schneider score 2 quick goals…..a late one by Gary Roberts isn’t enough….Final 3-2 NJ

Just noticed NJ backup goalie is Trevor Kidd….These guys keep taking our old backup goalies…..A few years ago, they signed Corey Shwaab…

Game 2: Hrdinda scores a minute in…Sundin replies, but Pandolfo puts Jersey ahead…..Stajan gets his 1st, but NJ adds 2 more….we suck…Final 5-2 NJ

Game 3: We got to win on home ice…..changed our strategy, the whole team is going to play hit and grind…...we are gonna try to win this one playing hard nosed, playoff hockey……Kaberle opens the scoring….Mogilny makes it 2-0 after 1….David Hale gets a lucky one…2-1 after 2…..A Owen Nolan pp goal, and the lead is 2 again…..Czerkawski answers, 3-2…..Devils take 2 stupid penalties…..Final 3-2 Tor

San Jose avoids the sweep sending the series back to Anaheim….And Edmonton cant beat an angry Red Wings again, they go down 4-0….Phoenix on the verge of upsetting Colorado, leading 3-1…

Game 4: Sillinger and Mogilny score 2 mins apart…..David Hale scores to bring the Devils to within 1 after 2……A Brian Leetch wrist shot eludes Brodeur 30 seconds into the 3rd……Niedermayer gets one shorthanded…..can we hold on…..yes….Final 3-2 Tor

Anaheim finishes off SJ…..Colorado stays alive with a win over the Coyotes….Ottawa beats Boston 5….way to show up Bruins…..

Game 5: Scoreless 1st……Madden scores at the halfway point of the 2nd…1-0 after 2…..Gomez scores on the power play….A Nik Antropov goal gives us a chance in the last half of the third…..Mogilny takes a feed from Nolan, and rips it into the top corner, tie game…5 mins left….OVERTIME….Holden goes off for tripping, damn….Elias scores and wins it…..Final: 3-2 NJ in OT

Philly ends Pittsburgh season in 5….Colorado goes home, but takes Phoenix with them for game 7….No leaf prospects will compete in the 2005 world championships being held in Florence, Italy…..

Game 6: Despite great D by the Leafs, NJ leads 1-0 after the first on a sh goal….Elias makes it 2-o….but LeClerc gets a sh goal of his own to make it 2-1 going into the third….KLEE SCORES……screen shot from the point gets through…..2-2…12 mins left…..LEETCH SCORES……3-2 Toronto….9 mins left….Sundin scores in the empty net….Final: 4-2 Tor….

Montreal and Atlanta are going to game 7 after a 3-1 habs win…. Avs complete the comeback, 4 games to 3….

GAME 7: Bad start, Toms and Primeau give NJ a 2-0 lead….no scoring in the 2nd….we have to come back again….hopefully….30 seconds in, Mogilny takes a pass from Klee, he’s in all alone, to the backhand…SCORES!!!!.... 2-1…DOMI SCORES…..Leafs tie it, 15 mins left….2-2….2 mins later….Leetch hits Mogilny streaking, he’s got a breakaway, he shoots, HE SCORES!!!!!....3-2 Leafs…..8 mins left, NJ powerplay….Gomez winds up from the point….CLANG, off the post, stays out…..Mike Sillinger adds some insurance….Final 4-2 Leafs….Tor wins series 4-3

What a comeback….great series…..we finally beat NJ in the playoffs….Montreal losses to Atlanta 6-1, Thrashers move on….NHL Nominations are out....Carlo Colaiacovo is nominated for the Calder Trophy, and Alexi Ponikarovsky is nominated for the Selke, thats a little bit of a shocker...

2nd round matchups..
Ottawa vs. Toronto- The rivalry continues....
Atlanta vs. Philly- Atlanta playing the role of Cinderella
Anaheim vs. Dallas- 3rd year in a row
Colorado vs. Detroit- The rivalry continues.....

2nd round of the playoffs….

We are predicted to go down in 5 to Ottawa

Game 1: Ray Emery in net….Lalime will miss a few games with a injury….Mike Brown gives Ottawa a early 1-0 lead….The cheapest player in the NHL, Daniel Alfferdsson makes it 2-0….Mogilny’s 6th, cuts the lead to 2-1….Hossa gets 2 in the third, we were to tired from the Jersey series, we’ll be back in game 2….Final 4-1 Ott

Game 2: Wade Belak scored, I don’t believe it, Wade Belak actually scored….1-0….Bonk ties it….1-1 after 2…..Another 3rd period goal by Hossa gives Ottawa a 1 goal lead….LEETCH SCORES……Sillinger gets another assist, he’s playing great…2-2…lots of time to go….Havlat gets the lead back for Ott….The pricks hold on….Final 4-2 Ott

Game 3: Home Ice, and a must win for us….LeClerc opens the scoring…..no scoring in the second….but Todd White ties it with a cheap goal….Owen Nolan receives a 5 minute major for boarding, this is BS….Chara scores on the pp…Hossa scores on the pp….Damn, were blowing this…..Kaberle isn’t giving up, he scores with 2 mins left…time to pull the goalie…DAMN!!!!!!.....Final 3-2 Ott

If anyone can come back, it’s the Leafs. They are the only franchise in professional sports history to come back from a 3-0 deficit….So I guarantee, we will win this series…..

Game 4: Lalime back in net….No score after 1…..Todd White gives Ott a 1-0 lead after 2….comeback time….2 mins in…a loose puck bounces to Stajan, he winds up…SCORES!!!….1-1……6 mins later….Ponikarovsky works the puck in, he drops it and Matt Stajan steps into it….SCORES!!!!....2-1….Final: 2-1 Tor

1 down…3 to go…Atlanta also stays alive, with a 3-2 win over Philly….Colorado wins over Detroit pretty easily, 4 games to 1….

Game 5: No scoring in the first…..No scoring after the second…..time to win it….Ott gets 4 good scoring chances in the first 2 mins…Belfour stones them all…..we are on our heels…..but Chara takes a penalty….Sundin wins the draw….Nolan onetimes the pass to Mogilny, and with a lighting quick release….SCORES!!!!....1-0….15 mins left….2 mins later, Havlat ties it…1-1….30 seconds later….Lalime tries to clear the pick, it hits Mogilny, who centers it to Roberts…Roberts charges the net…and somehow, the puck goes in…SCORES!!!!....2-1….we have to hold on to this lead….with a 2 man advantage Owen Nolan, takes a slap shot from the boards…SCORES!!!...tiped by SUNDIN….3-1…4 mins remain….Final 3-1 Tor

2 down….2 to go….Atlanta doing the same, extends their series with Philly….Anaheim eliminates Dallas…

Game 6: Owen Nolan, and Mike LeClerc have us up 2-0 after 1…..A Gary Roberts pp goal makes it 3-0 after 2…..Hossa gets one back, but Antropov, Belak, Domi, and Leetch all score in the 3rd….Final 7-1 Tor

Looks like we have taken the wind out of Ottawa’s sales…3 down….1 to go….unbelievably, Atlanta wins again, that series will go 7

Game 7….NEXT

Canucks came back from a 3-1 lead, then Minnesota came back on the Canucks from 3-1, only the Leafs in the 1940 cup final over Detroit have come back from 3-0

Season wrapup part 2..

The AHL all-star teams were announced, and Sebastian Centomo was named to the second team….He will be competing with Mikael Tellqvist for the starting job if we don’t grab a veteran goalie next year….

Brian Leetch has been named a First team all-star for the second straight year…
Carlo Colaiacovo was named to the 1st team all rookie team…..

Time for the NHL Entry draft, being held in Boston….
1st. LA Kings(via trade with Washington) select Niclas Grondin
2nd. Carolina Hurricanes select Yuri Rukovsky
3rd. St. Louis Blues select Pascal Petit
Now our picks:
21. Andrei Rosovsky 5*- like Alexander Mogilny….81 goals in junior last year
51. Teijo Ikonen 5*- Big playmaker, 71 points in Finnish league
81. Michael Johnson 4*- all around….probably a second or third liner
111. Leopold Krizan 4*- 6’4 huge defenseman
141. Manny Flatley 2*- Had to draft 1 Canadian in the draft

Interesting draft…I really like my Number 1 and 4 picks..

Offseason

Brain Leetch, Tie Domi, Alex Mogilny, Mike Rathje, Matt Stajan, and Carlo Colaiacovo all resign with me, along with a few prospects and some minorleaguers….

30-8-2005 Eric Lindros agrees on a contract.
Eric Lindros has signed a $4,500,000 per year, 3 year deal with the Toronto Maple Leafs. Detailed terms of the deal were not announced.

Its been a long time coming, but Eric Lindros is finally a Leaf….This was my #1 priority. Eric will put up big numbers here….I guarantee it…

31-8-2005 Toronto Maple Leafs trade
Toronto Maple Leafs traded Josh Holden, Jay Harrison, Martin Sagat and TOR's round 2 pick in 2006 to New York Rangers for Jamie Lundmark

I wanted Lundmark for a while too….Harrison is a solid defensive defenseman, Sagat a 20 year old who looks to be developing well….and Holden , well, he played all last year with the big club….

2-9-2005 Nikolai Khabibulin agrees on a contract with Detroit Red Wings.
Nikolai Khabibulin has signed a $7,500,000 per year, 2 year deal with the Detroit Red Wings. Detailed financial terms of the deal were not announced.

CuJo is a free agent….they went for who they thought was the top goalie available….maybe I should go after CuJo…….NAH

Detroit Red Wings signed UFA Adam Foote to a 2 year deal
St. Louis Blues signed UFA Petr Nedved to a 2 year deal

Tomas Kaberle wants a new contract….Im not sure if I agree….he signed the damn thing….he’s currently making 2.75mil for 2 more years…..I may move him….he has been a pain recently….

9-9-2005 Roman Cechmanek agrees on a contract with Dallas Stars.
Roman Cechmanek has signed a $3,500,000 per year, 3 year deal with the Dallas Stars. Detailed financial terms of the deal were not announced.

All weve heard from Kaberle lately is that he should be a franchise player, and he wants more money, well, I got tired of it, and pulled off a blockbuster….

13-9-2005 Brendan Shanahan agrees on a contract with Colorado Avalanche.

I don’t think Red Wings fans are happy about this….

17-9-2005 Toronto Maple Leafs trade
Toronto Maple Leafs traded Tomas Kaberle to St. Louis Blues for Chris Pronger

Pronger makes almost 8 mil more…..but this trade was even….Kaberle was a damn good hockey player….his ratings keep getting better….but he kept complaining…..Pronger is a stud…..he should fit in well…..I have my eyes on one more deal, but I need Darcy
healthy to pull it off….so probably about 2 weeks into the season….

Detroit Red Wings signed UFA Cory Cross to a 2 year deal
Detroit Red Wings signed UFA Patrice Brisebois to a 2 year deal
Philadelphia Flyers signed UFA Sandis Ozolinsh to a 2 year deal
Philadelphia Flyers signed UFA Sergei Zubov to a 2 year deal
LA Kings signed UFA Dmitry Yushkevich to a 2 year deal

We don’t lose or claim anyone in the waiver draft….

Brian Leetch is named 4th best defenseman....Chris Pronger isn't mentioned...
Mats Sundin is named 8th best center....

Your 2005-06 Toronto Maple Leafs

Center:

Mats Sundin- Produced less last year, but still elite
Eric Lindros- Welcome home Eric, I think you’ll like it here
Mike Sillinger- Had a very strong playoffs
Jamie Lundmark- I would of liked him to play on the first line in St. Johns. But theres no way he would clear waivers

Wing:
Alexander Mogilny- Dropped off, but still capable of 30 goals
Owen Nolan- 69 points last year, no reason to expect anything different
Alexi Ponikarovsky- Selke trophy winner, what else can I say
Gary Roberts- Probably his last year
Mike LeClerc- Seems to of digressed sinse last season
Darcy Tucker- Back in 2 weeks, very worried about a probable drop off in skill after a lay off of 9 months
Tie Domi- Closing in on all-time penalty minutes record
Wade Belak- 13th man had a nice playoffs
Nik Antrovpov- Just keep improving Nikky

Defense:
Brian Leetch- hasn’t lost anything, still great
Chris Pronger- just 30, he’s got a few great years left
Brian McCabe- had terrible season, needs to rebound
Carlo Colaiacovo- has two great mentors to learn from
Ken Klee- Steady
Karel Pilar- Clicked really nicely with Leetch while Caber was out last year
Mike Rathje- 7th, depth defensman

Goalie:
Mikael Tellqvist- won the starting job easily, just 25, needs to prove he can handle it
Sebastian Centomo- at 24, will push Tellqvist hard, capable of playing alot

Jennings Trophy: David Aebischer, Col

Is it just me, or is Aebischer rated just a bit too high in this game? He just won the Vezina and Jennings in the first season in my dynasty as well.

Aebisher is amazing in this game, so its not just you....He did put up great numbers backing up Roy, but I know what your saying, so what....you were a good backup....well, in this reality, I guess we just have to accept he is dominant....he's got 2 cup rings in my game now...so could be a future hall of famer....

Ask and you shall recieve....heres how Dallas looks coming into the season

Brendan Morrow-Jason Arnott-Valeri Bure
Bill Guerin-Steve Ott-Jere Lehtinen
Dallas Drake-Sergei Zholtok-Scott Young
Barret Heiston-Ilya Solarev-Aaron Downey

Teepo Numminem-Richard Matvichuk
Boris Mironov-Bob Boughner
Curtis Leschyshyn-Phillipe Boucher

Marty Turco
Tommy Salo

Not exactly a team that scares me....The loss of Mike Modano, hurts alot(read the next update to find out where he went...) They spent alot of money in the offseason on 2 starting goalies, when they already have one.....Thats why there paying Roman Checkmanek 7 mil to play in the minors...Their top prospect looks to be Jason Bacashihua, another goalie....I think there going downhill, and dont see anything on the horizon to save them....

Poor Numminen...at least in this game he wasn't forced to retire. And no Modano, eh? Is he still a great player?
