Patch readme question #42

Can somebody explain this one to me:

Quote:
- Adjust the AI for determining starting players, trying to avoid more talented players sitting on the bench (this increases the importance of pre-training-camp position moves, which also have been adjusted).

The first part is a no-brainer. But, the stuff in parens is strange to me. If the AI is going to use the best players at the given position, what does it matter about pre-TC moves? No matter when I move them, it should use the best player at that position. I may be dense, but this is confusing.

The team management AI changes player positions just prior to training camp. And the depth chart AI gives a heavy bonus to keeping starters at their natural position. What I did was reduce that bonus and attempt to strengthen the position change AI. Reducing the bonus increases the chance that, let's say, two good DLEs start (one at DRE) rather than one DLE and one replacement-level DRE starting. In order for that to work out for the best of the team, it's essential that teams do a better job of moving players around.

Ahhh. Thanks Jim. Sorry I was a bit dense. That makes complete sense and, while I could move my guys around at the expense of time and agony (which I always did), the computer wouldn't move their guys around. Now we all will.

wonderful.

This is huge news for the AI's ability to compete, as far as I'm concerned.

Might be time for me to fire FOF4 back up again.

I work through my first season post patch and when it gets to "end season" the game crashes and I can't go any further. Oh well, I guess it was too good to be true.

I see a potential problem. Let me ask you if the following is true.

1) You're re-starting a career saved prior to patch.

2) You're in year one of a new career.

3) You have a player file with a changed start date.

4) You ran the end season command after patching.

If all this is true, I can see the fix for the game not handling rolling through 2002 properly when the start date is changed is going to require new careers (at least when the career is less than a season old).
