Nine pitchers taken in the last 19 picks. Is this the start of a run on pitching?

there are NO bats that I'm impressed with, so I'll keep picking pitchers.

However, there are still alot of good pitchers left.

There are still some solid hitters left as well. Not superstars but 25/80 guys.

I think it's just a natural re-adjustment to the previous 8 rounds. Very few pitchers were taken early and the hitting/pitching splits for the roster aren't quite 50/50 (12:9) but close enough that the average was around 6 hitters and 2 pitchers deep after 8 so there's going to be some catching up.

Nice pick Travis...I really like Sandoval because he can play catcher and I think will be pretty solid at 3B this year for SF.

As an aside, I almost forgot my position in the draft and picked. Whoops. One more spot.

Thread and Yahoo updated thru 9.9. Something's going screwy with the formatting in the thread so it's not as pretty as it was but not a big deal

Toddzilla, sooner333, and DeToxRox up; then they're up in reverse order to start round 10

Thanks sooner. Probably a reach at this point that maybe could have waited a round or two, but I've gone catcher pretty high the last two seasons (Victor two years ago, Martin last year), so was already feeling pretty exposed there. I do like his versatility and seems like he should be hitting in a good spot so hopefully he justifies the pick.

Yeah, it could be too early, but it also might be one of those guys who is picked too late come the end of the season. I took a catcher high too.

I agree, probably a reach, but every site/mock I look at has him going anywhere from around the 100th pick to the 200th pick (in 12 team mocks that is). I'm not terribly sold on a lot of the other guys there upside wise and the latest I would have taken him is with my next pick anyways as I didn't want to risk the 16 pick gap I'll have between the 10th and 11th rounds (and with 4 of those teams still needing a catcher).

Besides, who needs pitching, heh, apparently not my team.

Obviously you put a lot of thought into the pick, as we all have. I've been in too many leagues where guys just pick the first name available and don't spend any time evaluating talent. Of course the evaluation process is made much easier with the sheer amount of time we're dedicating to the draft here but still, it is refreshing to see this level of immersion and interest in the draft.

Heh, let's just say between this and following the trade deadline news I'm not getting a lot of work done today

Ok, I was thinking Doumit might be a little bit of a reach in round 8. Apparently not as now they're flying off the shelves. And, if I'm counting right, there are still 4 teams without a C.

I was happy to get Soto where I did, despite the fact he is a Cub. And I hope his rookie numbers were not a fluke.

I am predicting a touch year in Brewer land. Losing the pitching you guys lost is gonna make for some interesting games.

By touch, I assume you meant tough, and yes, it will be tough. I don't expect us to overtake the Cubs - and we really didn't do anything in the offseason to help shore up that pitching. It could be a great year or a really long year.

Some risks. Verlander is not as bad as he was last year, and Bedard, if healthy, is a steal this late. He was still solid last year considering he was hurt all year.

I'm probably in the minority, but I'd like to see somebody *not* get otto-ed, since we have about a month. Unless the person hasn't picked in 24 hours, thats just ridiculous.

While I understand what you're saying, every owner knew the rules set forth before the draft began.

I'd rather not, but the problem I have is that I don't want to have to be the arbiter of what's "ridiculous" and what isn't.

However, we could consider that after this weekend we drop the 9am/10am rules, if interested? Basically, go with a 6-hour clock with no morning provision. Thoughts? With how much time is left, I'd be in favor of this (if a majority- 8 or more- were in favor)
