I think the Duke comparison is apt right now. Xavier is playing just like that. Scared.

ah well. It was a good run by xavier. That non-technical by the refs cost them the upset though.

The prospect of this sort of an upset isn't as exciting to me as past year's upsets have been. And I have a bracket rooting interest in seeing tOSU in the final four.

It was an interesting non-call. It would have been called a T 5 minutes earlier, no question. But it also would have been used to taint any run Xavier might go on from here.

And they should have locked it up long before that - they played scared the last 2 minutes, and the OT

When did they change the rule to not reset the shot clock on a kicked ball?

I think two years ago. If the shot clock is under 15 secs, they set it to 15 seconds.

MJ4H - I'll agree to leave it be.... until someone comes in bashing mid-majors again . I agree that you can't just tally W/L in the tourney to tell the story - I just wanted to show that SuperGrover was trying to do it with completely mis-leading facts. If you try to make the point, I'm going to show where that point is flawed.

Speaking of mid-majors remaining in the tournament, Michigan's Tommy Amaker just got fired, and the A.D. announced he's scouting the tournament for coaches who might want to move up.

I wish I could shed a tear for Tommy the nice guy coach, but my only memories of his tenure here are NIT appearances.

Can somebody please explain to me how a #6 seed is basically playing a home game?

High seeds are only protected against potential "road" games in the first round. It has happened many times before. I recall Pitt as a #3 playing Wisconsin in Milwaukee in the second round a couple of years ago.

Anybody with comments on that charge call against Maryland? I'm pulling for Butler, but the charge seemed like a tough call at this point in the game.

I thought it was a very poor call.. Not only was he in the air when he caught it, not only was Crone under the basket, but I didn't think Crone was set either.

And I was only marginally pulling for UMD .

Missing a free throw and not defending Lewis (and throwing the ball away carelessly on an inbounds pass) had something to do with that too.

Crone may not have been set, but he did have position while the other guy was flying through the lane. I guess I can see the call, but in terms of offensive/defensive/no-call, offensive probably would have been my third choice.

I would have to agree. If your reason for losing was that a referee called a foul but didn't determine it was intentional or worth a technical, you really can't claim you should have won. I'm sure it was an intentional foul, but not a whole lot different from any other end of the game foul.

Finally...Tommy seems like a great guy and recruited good athletes but he just couldn't coach any of them. Every single team he had just about underachieved. I'm tired of seeing them in the NIT - if Purdue and Illinois could make the tournament there is no way UofM shouldn't have been able to win enough games to get in too. Maybe next year we'll win a quality game or two.

In general I'd have to say that todays games have been much better than most of the first round games. Many of them going down to the wire.

Despite the miss at the end, you have to really be impressed by Sosa. He had a monster game and really kept Louisville in it. I thought we'd see a monster game from a guard there but I thought that guard would be Law (who played well also). I have A&M winning it all in every pool I did, so I was nervous there. I don't know if they'll play a tougher game than Louisville on the road (basically). Oddly enough, next (assuming Memphis advances) they would two games in their home state(against higher seeds).

Do Timouts ALWAYS favor the offense over the defense, as every coach in the history of the world seems to think?

Has there every been a day like this where every single game was competitive down to the wire? The first round was one of the more "boring" first rounds I can remember, today has been incredible and completely made up for it.

Deep breath.

As a Pitt fan, I thought for sure they were going to blow it again. The refs did miss a travel call on Graves when he was trapped at the half court line with about 1:30 left.

Every single game so far so basically gone down to the last possession. The "worst" game was the BC/GTown game.

There's some things I will just never understand.

I have no idea when the broadcasting community made the shift from "he's on the bench getting some rest" to "he's getting a blow."

But I'm even more amazed that the announcers can say this with a serious tone.

At least according to ESPN.com.

Ben Braun would make a lot of sense, he knows the state well after coaching EMU for so many years.

I would be surprised if VCU's head coach didnt attract some attention from a larger school.

VCU's coach I believe is in his first year. Not sure if that will keep him in his job but I think sometimes these guys like to keep from jumping every year. Also, while I think he's an excellent coach from what I've seen, you really don't have a great idea how he recruits.

They could do a lot worse than most of that list, I think Beilein is my favorite of the group because I love watching his teams play.

Interesting stats on today's first 6 games:

Total margin of victory: 29
Total margin at the end of regulation: 13.

Thank god CBS changed from the UCLA/Indiana game to the UNC game. That was some seriously bad basketball.
