Lightbulb FOFC Numbers Racket (April)

Okay, here’s how it works:

1. Each FOFC member begins with 100 points. A balance will be kept thereafter in this thread’s second post. When you are out of points, you are done, but there is no maximum balance.

2. Numbers for the game will be posted by myself in this thread. My goal is to post 10 numbers per month, and then (depending on the game’s success and interest level) continue this every month through 2003. I will try to separate number postings by at least 48 hours to allow for greater participation.

3. (NEW RULE) A monthly champion bonus will be awarded (beginning in April) to the monthly qualifier with the highest percentage increase in their score for the month. The bonus will be 20 points for every number played that month (so a minimum of 100 and a maximum of 200). A separate tally will be kept on the scoreboard to monitor the current monthly standings. In the unlikely event of a tie, the bonus will be halved for each winner.

4. To qualify for the monthly standings, you must play at least five of the numbers. This also earns all qualifiers a 10-point bonus (and adds new life to the zero-balance losers). To qualify for the Annual Number Cruncher Award, you must have qualified in at least five months.

5. The numbers will fall between 10 and 90, and will be randomly generated by percentage dice.

6. You are betting points on whether I will roll less than or equal to the posted number. For example, if I post 79 as the number, there’s a 79% chance of success.

7. You may bet as much or as little of your current balance as you wish.

8. Lesser numbers have better pay-off odds. I will post the odds with the numbers, but the formula will simply be dividing 100 by the number and dropping any remainder. Examples: #34-50 pays 2-1, #26-33 (3-1), #21-25 (4-1), #17-20 (5-1), #15-16 (6-1), #13-14 (7-1), #12 (8-1), #11 (9-1), #10 (10-1). Anything above 50 pays 1-1.

To clarify, this means that if you bet 10 points on a 2-1 number, your balance will go down 10 if the number misses, and up 20 if it hits.

Can I play? If so, I bet 100 points that you will roll lower than 88.

Hmmm....being at 173, do I just bet 5 points and hope that all the leaders bet heavy and lose, or do I bet heavy and still trail the leaders by hundreds of points, but make myself feel better for crossing the 200 or 300 threshold.

Such a strategic game here.

Sure!

Although 88 is a great number, you might want to bet less than 100, since if it's a miss you would be out of the game (zero balance).

If this number doesn't fail it's going to be nearly impossible for someone like myself to catch up to the big boys... I don't know now if I want to the # to win or fail.

Well, if you're going to bet it all, this is as close to the highest probability you're going to get here... I was hoping that the leaders might be out of town so I could vault into the lead... alas, every single one of the people in front of me have bet big as well. So much for that.

If we all go down, it'll become a lot more interesting.

The 1st April number was 88. The roll was 82, and thus a hit.

Player balances have been updated in the second post of this thread.

The 2nd April number is 67. The payoff is 1-1.

The betting window closes in approximately 48 hours.

This number might have more impact than 88 did, obviously depending upon who bets what.
