Given to fly

...

He made it to the ocean, had a smoke in a tree

The wind rose up, set him down on his knee

A wave came crashing like a fist to the jaw

Delivered him wings, "Hey, look at me now"

Arms wide open with the sea as his floor

Oh, power, oh

...

I'm not a huge Pearl Jam fan, but this song makes me weak in the knees, especially when it hits the above section.

Haven't listened to Yield in years so I popped it in the CD player tonight and had forgotten how much I like this album, uh, CD. Great music to accompany me in my task of converting my thousand plus RAW nikon images to jpg. I think this is a teaser for my stint in Hell.

Spent my days with a woman unkind,
Smoked my stuff and drank all my wine.
Made up my mind to make a new start,
Going to california with an aching in my heart.
Someone told me theres a girl out there
With love in her eyes and flowers in her hair.
Took my chances on a big jet plane,
Never let them tell you that theyre all the same.
The sea was red and the sky was grey,
Wondered how tomorrow could ever follow today.
The mountains and the canyons started to tremble and shake
As the children of the sun began to awake.
Seems that the wrath of the gods
Got a punch on the nose and it started to flow;
I think I might be sinking.
Throw me a line if I reach it in time
Ill meet you up there where the path
Runs straight and high.
To find a queen without a king;
They say she plays guitar and cries and sings.
La la la la
Ride a white mare in the footsteps of dawn
Tryin to find a woman whos never, never, never been born.
Standing on a hill in my mountain of dreams,
Telling myself its not as hard, hard, hard as it seems.

One of my favorites, as well. Quite a range of emotions for a fairly short song.

Yeah, probably the best Pearl Jam song ever.

I think it was the last time the band was really hitting on all cylinders. I'm on record as thinking the end began when Matt Cameron took over as drummer.

I think Jack Irons had the perfect style for them, while i think Cameron just sucks and is an awful writer.

I liked "No Code" but I think that came before "Yield". "Hail Hail" I really enjoy.

Was thinking the exact same thing. I remember when the next albumn came out and the first thing that popped out was, "what happened to the drummer?"

Was the old drummer the guy that mocked Eddie about the ticketmaster thing by saying something like, "Just charge less for the tickets" ?

Not sure who made the Ticketbastard comment, but I'd guess it was Dave Abbruzzese.

When Jeff Ament and Stone Gossard were recording demos in the aftermath of Andrew Wood's overdose and the end of Mother Love Bone, it was Matt Cameron on drums.

Dave Krusen drummed on the debut 'Ten', but left the band after recording and was replaced by Abbruzzese.

Abbruzzese reportedly didn't get on with the rest of the band all that well and was eventually replaced by Jack Irons after 'Vitalogy' was finished. Irons was the guy the group had wanted all along, but he bowed out after 'Yield' and was replaced by - Matt Cameron.

I won't necessarily disagree with people that don't think Cameron's style suits Pearl Jam and don't like his writing, but regardless of those two things he's a great drummer in his own right. I do think he probably was better suited in Soundgarden where his odd time signatures and progressive rock writing tendencies fit in better.

Well fellas... I attended my first Pearl Jam concert last night and go figure... they played Yield front to back in order. Just an amazing show... I couldn't have been more impressed by the band. Typically I have looked down on stadium concerts because of the entire industry take on making money, showmanship rather than music and typical stadium concert antics. The show last night was nothing close... they closed out their set by playing for another 30 minutes after the house lights came up. It was just surreal.. thanks Eddie and crew!!

Awesome timmae. I saw them in Charlotte last year, easily the best show I've ever been to. They always play for 3 hours, two encores, 30+ songs, different sets every night, I've been going back to their music over and over for the last 5-6 years, I like a number of the songs on their latest album (came out last year) as well.

Course, I'm old now and don't like cool things anymore, but I'm ok with this

Saw them in Pittsburgh earlier in the year and they were amazing. I'd love to catch them again. FYI, their concerts typically show up on iTunes.
