God, Peter Angelos is a whiny prick.
Hoping to land a premier starting pitcher and a middle-of-the-lineup bat through free agency or a trade, Orioles Executive Vice President of Baseball Operations Jim Beattie said the uncertainty of the financial effect the Nationals will have on the Orioles has caused the franchise to be outbid for players. Without an agreement with MLB on a compensation package, the Orioles are unsure how much they can spend.

Bullshit. As a orioles fan I watched David Segui and many other contracts come off the books this offseason. They signed Steve Klein and sat on there hands. I am disgusted by ownerships handling of this situition and they seem inclined to not challenge the Sox and Yanks for the division. I don't need them to spend into the hundred's of millions but they had money to use and didn't do it. Put a good team on the field and Camden Yards will be packed every night and he should know that from the playoff run in 90's.

He is currently still in negotiations with MLB over his "settlement" over the relocation of the Expos to Washington DC. It's been agreed that the Orioles will get some sort of compensation or concession. The specifics are still undecided.

Now, his organization claims that they have been hurt not only financially, but by the financial implications of that harm on their perceived stability -- that they are being hurt in their ability to field a competitive team.

Now, put it together, gang. He is trying to cut a better deal.

I don't like the bastard either, folks, but this is the American way.

If I'm not mistaken, Angelos was the reason for the severe weakening of the team in the late 90's in an effort to keep a team from coming to the DC area. The way I've heard it, if the O's didn't make a certain amount of money or sell a certain amount of tickets, then there was a clause within MLB that another team would harm the current team and that it couldn't move it.

He is a grade-A twit.
