One of my favorite spicy foods is Som Tam. Who expects a cold, juicy looking papaya salad to freaking burn your mouf off???

Seriously, though. I love spicy food, but I'm not a fan of the extreme heat that leaves you not tasting anything.

Some of my favorite hot sauces:

Pickapeppa- A Jamaican sauce that has a lot of interesting ingredients, giving it more a sweet flavor.

Castillo's Salsas Habaneras- Very spicy sauces. First had these at Andale in Los Gatos when I worked near there. Great kick, good flavor.

La Victoria Taqueria Orange Sauce- The most famous hot sauce in the South Bay. Great balance of flavor and heat.

Heck yeah - spicy is good, I put Tabasco onto everything ....

(and if you ever visit England for Gods sake visit a curry house people, there's a reason England has adopted Indian curry as its national dish of choice above and beyond our more traditional dishes like Fish and Chips etc.)

Definitely a huge difference between white man spicy, mexican spicy, indian spicy, and thai spicy.

Crystal hot sauce has the best cayenne based sauce flavor, IMO, but the regular crystal isn't hot enough. Recently been stocking up on Crystal extra hot hot sauce, perfect mix of the taste of milder Louisiana hot sauces and the spice level of Tabasco.

I have never had anything that was too spicy for me. Ever.

I've had people roll their eyes and then have me try something (hot sauce, wing, spicy dish, etc.) that would supposedly be too hot even for me, but it never. Sure, my eyes may water a bit, or I might get the hiccups, but those aren't bad things.

If anyone has a hot sauce they think even I couldn't handle, let me know. I'd like to add it to my collection of 36 and counting.

I'm like 99% sure that is me, and explains the reason I have a fairly strong aversion to spicy foods(and alcohol and coffee and many other things they list, actually). I cannot handle most spicy foods.

I'll have to do that. We don't have too many around here, but there's a decent one nearby. I've only went there during the lunch buffet so I didn't have much choice, but I'll try doing it at dinner some time.

Yeah, don't know if I mentioned it, but I'm Indian - the only food that's ever burned me is Sri Lankan.

No spice here. At all. I think I've reached a point where I can handle a mild horseradish with my roast beef, but that's about it.

Spicy gets used way too frequently in the wrong context. Hot sauce isn't spicy -- it's just hot. It's gastromasturbation.

I like spicy foods but I want it to have a point and have flavor. I make a spicy marinara sauce I like that gets its heat from fire-roasted tomatoes, roasted garlic, bell peppers, ancho chile peppers and other spices. Belalissimo.

Many of the hot sauces here mentioned have flavor or add flavor, they aren't just hot to be hot.

Wing Stop Atomic wings. Seriously if you can/ or have handle that then you are truly amazing. I cried from the smell of those wings, took a bite and was drinking milk(I am not even suppose too) the whole night trying to cool down.

Then why do people like different hot sauces? Spicyness is/should be a layer of flavor, not the only act in an event. You do that with chili peppers, most people try to do it when they add hot sauce (made with chili peppers.)

In once case, it was a sauce for dipping fries in...I don't remember the other, but I think it was a sauce that was put on potatoes.

There's a taco place here in Austin called Tacodeli that has an awesome habanero salsa. It is bright orange, has great flavor, and doesn't destroy your mouth. However, after three or four bites, your sweat glands get the "I'm in a sauna" signal, and the water works start.

I think Ive told this story before....but in college there was a wing place that actually required a signed waiver, and if you could eat 6 and keep them down for 30 minutes your entire party ate and DRANK for free that night.

So I tried it after much coaxing.

I was doing ok, they WERE damn hot....until I wiped my watering eyes wiith the towel that had the sauce on it....instant crippling pain and both eyes were swelled shut for a day or so....my entire face was swollen and bruised looking for several days....

Some sauces are designed strictly for heat and I don't mess with those unless I've been challenged.

As for the Buffalo Wild Wing list, I usually order "hot". I haven't tried Mango Habenero, Wild, or Blazin. When I make wings at home, I usually add a fair ammount of tobasco habenero or chipotle to the mix.

BWW sauces listed from "most mild" to "most heat" for reference.

The Germans have a dish called Curry Wurst. Basically it's sliced bratwurst coated in a ketchup-curry powder mixture. It's not spicy at all, but it is delicious. And of course, it always comes with pommes frites...

Same here. I voted "Yes", but in reality my vote would be "Yes, but within reason". I find that for some cuisines the addition of some heat is a welcome additional component to the dish, but it can be waaaaaaaaaaaaay overdone.

I like the Mango Habenero and just bought a bottle yesterday. It starts off sweet and then gets spicy/hot.
