1976 Pro Bowl

Co-worker brought in his original program from the 1976 Pro Bowl (1975 season), Very cool to paw through it...sort of like a time warp.

Anyway, I thought it'd be kind of fun to do an informal quiz to see how many Pro Bowler you guys can come up with (starters and reserves). NO CHEATING!!!

A lot of Cardinals, I would think, especially on the OL
Dierdorf, Dobler are the only two I can think of off the top of my head.

At RB...maybe Terry Metcalf, at FB Jim Otis, maybe Jackie Smith at TE

This was the 6th Pro Bowl, by the way, and was coached by Chuck Knox (NFC) and John Madden (AFC).

I think Denver's Otis Armstrong was the starting RB for the AFC.

Very good! All but Smith were there. You're missing 4 other Cardinals, who with Hart make an impressive NINE Pro-Bowlers .

Hmm....

I'm not sure but I think 76 might have been Guy's first season.
The only others on your list who might have made it are Tark, Swann and Webster.

Funny sidenotes:

Car ads in the program include the new VW Rabbit and the Cordoba, which Ricardo Montalban is calling "the small Chrysler" with its (everybody say it with me) RICH CORINTHIAN LEATHER.

Some others

Ahmad Rashad for the Vikes
Gene Upshaw and Art Shell from the Raiders
I'm sure there were probably some Dolphins from the Offensive Line and Defense (probably no skill players though)
Ditto for the Cowboys -- Maybe WR Drew Pearson.

Drawing blanks now....I'll have to break out my APBA cards when I get home!

Upshaw and Shell, yes, but no Rashad or Drew Pearson.

By the way, Chuck Foreman led the NFC with 73 receptions, at that time the most ever for a RB, was #2 in rushing behind Otis, and scored 22 TDs.

Reminds me of a classic Tonight Show episode.

Johnny Carson: Im curious, what the hell is Corinthian Leather?

Montalban: (shrugs) I have no idea. It's something the writers came up with.

Nope (other than Staubach).

The AFC had a HOF kicker, though.

I frequently use another Tonight Show episode from that era in a class I teach - the class is on research methods and this episode has to do with the debunking of Uri Geller by James Randi and Johnny Carson (but that's another story). One of the guests sitting on the sofa when Uri gets up to the desk is Ricardo Montalban. I always make a point of pausing the video and asking my students to identify who he is - and much to my chagrin my last two classes have all completely failed to figure out who he is.

My students are making me feel very, very old.

They failed despite providing them with the Rich Corinthian Leather hint. Some students get it after I shout out "De Plane! De Plane!" - but nowhere near enough. Most figure it out when I scream "KHAN!" - but I still have to explain the hints I use to too many students.

Damn them. Damn them for making me feel old.

Tom Flores (WRs)
John Robinson (backfield)

And Ram assistants from Knox's staff:

Tom Catlin (LBs)
Ray Malavasi (DC)

As I was scrolling down, I was going to guess that Cedrick Hardman at DE from the 49ers might be on the list. Perhaps RB Delvin Williams or FB Wilbur Jackson from the 49ers as a reserve?
