What a day...
I had a super-weird, stress-filled day yesterday.
Background - not happy in my existing job (company seems to have problems, although they've been pretty silent about them), flew to AL for an interview last week. The job seems to be great and it's a promotion. Was expecting an offer yesterday AM. Nothing. Called the recruiter yesterday afternoon. Nothing. Bummed out. THEN I find out that the VP is coming into town today to have a meeting at 1:00. I haven't seen him (who is my boss) in 8 months. AND we're all told to "bring our laptops" to the meeting for some "training". This is, of course, a week after next years' budgets were finalized. So everyone is freaking out about their jobs and I'm trying to get everyone to calm the hell down, putting on the good managers show. And in the middle of all of it, guess who calls on my cell phone? My recruiter, telling me I am definitely getting an offer on Friday. So now my VP is coming into town today and I figure there's a 50/50 chance I won't have a job by COB - either termination or layoff. But I should have an offer that I wanted to accept anyway tomorrow. I live in interesting times... |

Let us know how it turns out.
Sounds like you could get the Holy Grail of terminations -- a severance package and a new job at the same time. |

Hopefully it'll work out for the best with losing/gaining of jobs. And hey, maybe you'll get a few days off in there where you don't have to do anything at all.

Well, we have the first part. My intuition was correct. The shut down the entire region - 141 people lost their jobs. I got a small severance package and they may want me to take over another market, but I'm not banking on it. God willing, I'll get the offer for the FL job tomorrow and bring a couple of my folks along with me. Let this be a lession to you folks. Make SURE you build your professional network and STAY IN TOUCH with people. I've already had a Regional Director of Sales call me and a VP of Dealer Sales, both whom want to seriously talk with me. I haven't even put out the total APB yet while I'm waiting on the FL thing. God willing, I'll also be able to hook up many of my folks with jobs too. |

Well, one door closes and, um, many open.
I've already had one interview today (no tie!) and it appears that I'll be getting an offer on that. It's more of a partnership than a job offer. Also got the offer from the group in FL. Not as good as I hoped, but negotiable. And I have a couple of other options, should I choose to pursue them. |
