Agreed. I hate "Use Somebody." It sounds like he's mumbling for the entire song, especially when he sings "I've been looking around..." Vastly overrrated band IMHO.

They used to be good. Then the mainstream got a hold of them. Youth and Young Manhood, Aha Shake Heartbreak and even Because of the Times are much more solid albums than Only By The Night. The formula doesn't change a lot, just less bombast and lyrics about her being "only 17."

This, much like creed albums are now, will be the CD people see in their collection 5 years from now and wonder "what the fuck was I thinking?"

From my perspective, they came out of nowhere to being damn well everywhere about 7-8 months ago. I think within a day I was crying in my sleep for not being able to escape them.

Seems like every week they've got a new CD out. Which doesn't bother me much from the perspective of "I don't listen to stations that play their music," but it does mean I have to pull the sale tags on those CDs each week. Joy.

Creed's first album (and a half) are still enjoyable, IMO. After that, though, yikes...

SCOTT STAPP!!! I'M SCOTT STAPP!!!

Honestly, a significant part of my enjoyment of the band 311 came from hearing a secondhand story about how their lead singer punched out a drunk Scott Stapp when he was hitting on his (Nick Hexum's) wife. Even if it was (hyperbole/completely made up), I prefer to believe it.

I mean, I could really use a story like that, some story like that, some story like that, some story like that...

Surely they have been mainstream for years, or is this another example of a band that was huge in the UK but unknown in the US?

Seems like a couple of years now to me, though at this point in time they are into overkill mode I guess (everywhere, all the time).

I took a look at the wikipedia page, and they first hit it big in the UK about 7 years ago. It seems like they have been headlining festivals for years over here.

I actually really like the song. I look at it like it's when you and a bunch of your friends are in a car late one weekend night and it comes on and everybody starts singing their heart out. I don't listen to mainstream radio so I think I've only heard the song when I watched a video of it on Youtube. I've listened to some of their other stuff, but generally don't get into them that much. Their early stuff does come across better because it feels much more raw versus being over produced.

I didn't know much about them until this year, but I really liked "Crawl" and "Notion".

I guess I'm uncool. Oh well.

The UK is always ahead of the curve when it comes to anything cultured. We, as a country, still have a coronary when a breast is shown on TV. It's sad, but it's just how it is. When I heard "Molly's Chambers", I had a good feeling about this band. When I heard "The Bucket", I had a great feeling about this band. When I heard drunken 40 year olds singing "Sex On Fire" at Monday Night Karaoke, I put this band on permanent time-out. It's not their fault necessarily, but I look back and think they were mapping out their career to wind up in this "appeal to the tasteless" category.

I can't even believe that's the same band! Sad they didn't stick with that sound.

Huge in the UK, but they didn't really hit mainstream radar here until Because of the Times and naturally this most recent release put them over the top in these parts.

Heh - thats kinda true, was somewhat amused when music I'd been listening to for ages in the UK was 'new' over here (Snow Patrol being the most noticable, but I've been hearing more 'Keane*' here in Florida on the radio recently also).

Then again the same can be said in reverse I'm sure with certain American bands being big here then eventually making their way over the pond to the UK - its kinda natural if you think about it, same thing happens with TV shows etc. also.

*Also cool because they're from Sussex, home of the best soccer club in the world also

Really? I've never said that about any CD I've owned. If I buy it, I like it. If I like it, I always will like it. I don't buy things because they are wildly popular (never did). I don't hate things because they are wildly unpopular.

Hey I've got a couple of tunes from the likes of 'Sigue Sigue Sputnik' and 'Bahaus' on my iPod presently - my bad taste is persistant as I age*

*Either that or they remind me of being young
