All-Time Film Actor/Actress Draft
Okay, given the interests of FOFC (beyond the obvious, sports), I thought it might be cool to have an all-time draft of movie talent.

I thought about this, but figured it would be more interesting to do movie characters rather than the actors themselves. For instance, choose Kazaam instead of Shaq. I'm too busy the next couple days, but good luck.

Ok, six participants so far.
I had a follow-up idea: if we get more than 10 interested folks, the ones who don't get randomly selected can be analysts of the selections and then judges for the best overall team. An FOFC Film Academy, of sorts.

Heh, I was thinking about this. I don't want to participate, I have too much on my plate already with the baseball, football and video game drafts. But I'll be following along closely

BTW I would much prefer a comedic actor and actress (seperate) with one gender neutral category for supporting.
Also I think we should get rid of drafting movies. That seems like a different draft. Perhaps add another director? Worse actor/actress? Child actor/actress? Keep the seperate categories for supporting? Last edited by Barkeep49 : 01-26-2004 at 10:18 PM. |

I think the Best Pictures category should be expanded to at least 3, if not 5. There are just too many genres to narrow it down.
I'm in as long as we're given a decent time frame to get our votes in; I'm only at the computer late in the evenings. |

Anyone else want to comment on Barkeep49's suggestions for categories? Edit: I kind of like the idea of Worst Actor/Actress.

I agree with him regarding taking out movies. That should be an entirely different draft in itself, possibly with all of the movies broken up into categories.
I like the idea of child actor/acctress. Worst actor/actress I don't like though, unless we had to choose a horrible acting job from a major motion picture. There have been thousands of horrible acting jobs in B movies that nobody has seen. So including a worst category would probably just result in people drafting a person nobody has heard of in a movie that 5 people saw. Seperating actor/actress for comedic role is also a good idea. Keep one director though.

Also another idea for a category would be "actor/actress in musical". Musicals have died off a bit as of late, with the one exception being Chicago. But I can think of at least 10 combined actors/actresses who are deserving of being including in this draft.

Okay, we've got our group. Since the number of participants is close to the target, lets go with 12 teams and 3 judges. I will add myself to the panel of the judges for commentary, but will only cast a final vote in the event of a 3-way tie.
I'll post the draft order in the initial post up top once we finalize our categories.

Here is my proposal for final categories -
Actor (drama) Actor (action) Actress (romance) Actress (drama) Actor (comedy) Actress (comedy) Actor/Actress (musical) Supporting Actor Supporting Actress Director 10 categories I do have one question. Are we selecting people based on a single role? For example "I select so and so from the movie blah blah". Or are we selecting people just overal based on their careers.

I like Sun Tzu's categories alright except I would much prefer
Supporting Actor/Actress Child Actor There are, in my mind at least, simply not enough "great" Supporting Actors/Actresses simply because if they're great they normally become a lead. I was under the impression that we were selecting a body of work and not a single performance. Seems to easy if we do single performance. |

My intention was for their body of work, not one specific role or film.
Personally, I think there is plenty of room for both supporting actor & actress, so let's keep that a separate category (sorry, Barkeep ). My revised proposal for categories: Actor (drama) Actor (action) Actor (comedy) Actress (drama) Actress (romance) Actress (comedy) Child Actor Supporting Actor Supporting Actress Director

I guess when they hit the teen years? Maybe 14-15?
*Edit* that's what I meant. Once they hit the teens they are no longer child actors.

Being as how there have only been a handful of actors/actresses nominated for Academy Awards that weren't at least in their 20's, I'd suggest 18+ as a good cutoff for child acting. I realize that might not sit well with some of our younger folks around here, but hey...I honestly can't think of anyone under 12 who deserves any kind of acting award for a body of work.

That said, there are exceptions. Jodie Foster was under 18 when she made her first film, and she has been critically acclaimed since then. I'm more referring to our current crop of under 18 actors. |

I really like the idea of this, but the ice and snow in Philadelphia has really affected my schedule, and I can't promise that I'll have the time to commit to this, so I'll have to bow out early. I'll be checking in on the results, though... |
