WLC: Richmond Archetypes 2032 - ?
This is a continuation of the Richmond Archetypes one year career updates. The orginal thread can be found here.
The first ten years of this franchise's history were not so great. We won the division several times and had several 11 win seasons but we never earned the elusive first round bye. We did manage to win one Super Bowl in this time, but overall the fans and management were disapointed. In 2023 the franchise hit rock bottom. Even worse, we managed to win four of our last five that year to seemingly destroy all hopes for getting the number one draft choice and the "quarterback of the future." Little did the A's fans realize, but finishing 6-10 was the greatest thing to ever happen to this young franchise. With the fourth overall pick in the 2024 amateur draft the Richmond Archetypes selected Levon Summers from Arkansas State. He didn't look like an Archie Evans or a Cade McNown or even a Peyton Manning, but he at least looked to be solid. Summer's career got off to a rocky start. He only managed four games his rookie year due to injury, but he was phenominal in those four games leading his team to a 4-0 start with sevn touchdown passes and a 99.4 QB rating. Without Summers the team went 5-7 to miss the playoffs. Even worse, team doctors weren't sure Summers could ever reach his full potential after his rookie injuries. He now looked to be merely average. Heading into the 2024 draft, the A's were still convinced Summers was their man, but a strange thing happened that year. Sammy O'Donnel, who just lead his Washington Huskies team to the final game of the college football playoffs (where a heavily favored Northwestern Wildcat team defeated them 49-35 for their 7th straight national championship) slipped all the way to the third round where the A's couldn't let him slip anymore. Going into his second season, the pressure was clearly on Summers. Summers struggled through his next two years although the team did win the Super Bowl in his second year (mostly due to an amazing running game, not the play of Summers). He suffered through several injuries and the scouts were really beginning to wonder if he was really cut out to be a starting quarterback in the NFL. Meanwhile, O'Donnell had played marvelously in a backup role. Going into Summer's fourth season it looked as if he was going to lose his starting position the first sign of a bad game. Summers response is. of course, now legendary. Under immense presure he put together an outstanding season. For the first time in his four year career he played the full 16 game schedule. He finished with 3455 yards passing, 25 touchdowns, 7 interceptions and a QB rating of 100.5. More importantly, he led the team to a 13-3 season and its second Super Bowl victory in three years. Summers did not stop there. Including 2027 and the next four years, he put together five of the greatest years ever for a quarterback and led his team to five straight Super Bowl victories. At this point Summers is just 31 years old, just now entering his prime years, and already owns six Super Bowl rings, an NFL MVP trophy, and several other personal awards. How many more rings will he win before he tires of football and goes into the used car business? For the answer to that question and many more... read on. 2032 Richmond Archetypes Season in Review
I had gotten all the way through to the end of the exhibition when my computer (the whole thing, not fof) froze... luckily I had saved my game right before exhibition, so my game is fine, but I did lose all my notes on what I had done up until that point. I will try to summarize as best as I can. Beginning of Season and Free Agency I don't make any changes at coach or scout again this year. I franchise S Otis Goel. He is unhappy and won't allow me to sign a new deal, but at least I can keep him one more year this way. Unfortunately I have to let future HOF safety, RJ Harvey, go. He has been the anchor of my defense ever since my second season, but I can not justify giving a big money deal to a 36 year old player. I bid on a nice young DE in free agency, but he spurns me for the Colts. Amateur Draft This year's draft is surprisingly deep at the 36th position. There is a good S, LB, DT and WR left when its my turn. I take the safety as he looks to be built in the same mold as Goel and Harvey and should start next year. In the second round I am delighted to see that both the DT and LB I wanted are still available. I want the DT more and was about to take him when I noticed a similar DT with less endurance also in the pool. This swings me toward taking the LB. I am doubly delighted to find the DT I wanted is still waiting for me in the third! I grab another DT in the fourth (this draft is deep at the position I guess) and then get a couple LB's in rounds five and six. The sixth round pick looks like he wants to be a red-liner so he could be promising. In the seventh round I grab another almost-a-red-liner at the DT position. Preseaon
I'm not sure what to expect from this team. I didn't expect to win the Super Bowl last year, but we did. This year we have more holes on an aging defense. Personally I don't think that is a very good recipe for domination, but we'll see. On the offensive side of the ball we should be able to hold our ground with anyone. Unfortunately age is starting to catch up to this team on that side of the ball as well. I just hope this team has enough left to squeeze out another run at the title before its rebuilding time. Regular Season We open season 16 against the hated Redskins. We dispatch them 45-42 in a shootout. Despite the numbers, my offense didn't really play all that well. Summers threw for over 300 yards and two touchdowns, but he practically gave the game away with four interceptions. We're lucky to get a win out of this one, but we'll take it. New Orleans comes into Richmond this week. Hopefully we can hold them under 30 points… we do as we win this one 24-17. Summers played with much more control in this game and finished with two touchdowns vs one interception. The defense played much better without Summers sabotaging their efforts. The Giants come into Richmond and we defeat them 30-20. I have a feeling we can win a lot of games if my defense can hold every opponent to 20 points. It seems the running game has become non-existent this year. Luckily Summers carried the team on his back this time out with 358 yards and five touchdowns. Austin Porras dispelled rumors of his death with 2.5 sacks to lead the defense. We get our bye week early again this year. We have several injuries of the 3-5 week variety so this should help a lot. The Cardinals come to Richmond at 2-1. The hand us our first defeat 27-20. The running has not developed as much as I had hoped and my passing attack suffered greatly from it this game. We travel to Dallas this week to face the 3-2 Cowboys in a fairly important early season contest. We win 34-10 in (what used to be) typical Archetype fashion. The running game came through in a big way with almost 350 yard rushing!! Toby Habib led the way with 222 yards on 16 carries. The running game allowed Summers to play efficient football getting 270 yards passing and two touchdowns without an interception. Almost as important to my teams success was the play of rookie safety Phillip Cook. I decided to plug him at free safety a few games back and he responded with two interceptions in this game to give me the big play potential my defense had been sorely missing. Washington comes into our place this week for the rematch. The Redskins come to town at 3-3, but records never matter when the Redskins and A's meet. We take this one 35-6, a much better result than the shootout in week one. Habib followed up his amazing game of last week with 143 yards on 16 carries. Behind the running game, Summers was again efficient with 183 yards and three touchdowns. We travel to Philadelphia this week to face the evil 5-1 Eagles in what looks to the biggest game of this young NFL season. We round into midseason form nicely with a 38-7 win! The running game crawled back into its hole, but Summers was ready this time. He completed 22 of 26 passes for 267 yards and five touchdowns without a single interception. Perhaps even more amazing is that Myron Keister caught all five touchdowns passes! When you have that kind of connection going on between QB and WR who needs a running game?  Indianapolis comes into town this week. The Colts seem to be good every year and this year is no exception. This rivalry is about as intense as they come for cross conference opponents. We continue to dominate with a 49-20 win. Habib puts up 236 yards and two touchdown on just 19 carries for his third dominant game of the year. Summers pulls his share of the load with 271 yards and four touchdowns with only one interception. In the first eight games, Habib has put up 912 yards rushing and seven touchdowns on just 124 carries! (7.3 yards per carry). Looks like pretty good numbers for a guy whose highest rating is 68. We travel to Arizona this week looking for revenge on the 7-1 Cardinals. We get it in a big way with a 53-25 victory. My rushing game produced a total of 240 and four touchdowns including 119 yards and one touchdown on 13 carries for Habib. Summers passed for 298 yards and two touchdowns, but his two interceptions reduce his overall score. We travel to New York this week to gave the underacheiving 2-7 Giants. We thump them 42-3 for our most lopsided win of the year. Summers and Habib both played decent, but not exceptional in this game. The credit goes almost entirely to the defense for this one. The secondary allowed only 11 passes, Beuerlein returned an interception 73 yards for a score, and the unit as a whole gave the offense excellent starting position throughout the game. We travel back to New York, this time to face the 3-5 Bills. We suffer our second defeat of the season with a 38-31 loss. Summers played excellent with 223 yards and four touchdowns, but the running game didn't pull its share of the load and the defense just sort of fell asleep I guess. We travel to St Louis to play the 7-4 Rams. The loss to the Bills dropped us to a 9-2 tie with Arizona so we need big wins now to pull away. We get one here 34-24 to move to 10-2 on the year. Habib rushed for 121 yards and a touchdown and Summers passed for 369 yards and two touchdowns to lead the offense. Philadelphia comes to Richmond at 6-6. Apparently after losing to us in week seven they entered into a downward spiral of losing. Unfortunately for me I have recently entered into a downward spiral of injury. I still manage to win this one 30-6 behind great defense. Summers led the offense with 292 yards and two touchdowns, but it was the defense that won this game. Dallas comes to town. At 7-6 they still harbor playoff hopes. They defeat us 38-22 to move one step closer to that dream. Summers went out early in this one and so did my chances to win. He should be back next week. Tamba Bay comes to Richmond with a 5-9 record. Luckily Arizona was kind enough to lose a game too, but we're still tied at 11-3 and so every game is important. We take this 45-9. The running game produced over 200 yards and three touchdowns and Summers passed for 298 yards and two touchdowns. The game ball for this one goes to my defensive line as they came up with 6 sacks and 3 hurries. We enter the final game tied with Arizona at 12-3. The next best NFC teams are all 9-6. Unfortunately that means one of us gets home field throughout the playoffs and the other one has to go on the road against a 10-6 team in week two unless they get upset in the first round. Luckily for us Arzona loses 20-6 at Miami in the first game of the week. We travel to 10-5 New England. The team comes up big with a 17-14 win! New England had us down 14-3 in the snow going into the fourth quarter, but Summers led the team to two touchdowns in the final six minutes to will the team to home field advantage throughout the playoffs! Regular Season Recap I finished this year at 13-3 with the best record in the NFL once again. My record was better than last year, but I know this team is not near as good overall. At times this team was amazing, but it seems the defense didn't play very consistent and so the playoffs are sort of a tossup. If the team plays at its best no one can touch us. If the defense falls asleep though, any team can beat us pretty easily. Key Stats QB Leven Summers - 312/482, 4210 yards, 40 TD, 13 int, 108.8 QB Rating This season should go down in history as one of the all-time greatest seasons for a quarterback. His numbers dropped over the second half a little, but he still single-handedly carried this team to many victories that should have been losses. RB Tony Habib - 198 carries, 1377 yards, 6.9 avg., 10 TD, 5 fumbles This guy would have been MVP of the entire league at the halfway point. His production cooled off considerably, but he still had a great season compared to his ratings. The yards per carry statistic is amazing for a running back. WR Marvin Kadletz - 85/139, 1424 yards, 16.7, 10 TD, 7 drops This was an amazing year for the 31-year old Kadletz. He really took advantage of playing with Summers. WR Myron Keister - 57/91, 773 yards, 13.5, 14 TD, 5 drops Although his yards were down, Keister was a touchdown machine this year. It should be noted that five of the touchdowns came in a single game! FS Phillip Cook - 43 tackles, 8 int, 0 TD, 25 caught, 5 dfns, 49.0 PDQ This was a great year for the rookie free safety. He should win DROY in a landslide and garner serious 1st team consideration. Team Statistics Rushing: 5.4 / 3.8 / 3.9 Passing: 8.7 / 6.3 / 6.7 Offensively this team was amazing! All along I was criticizing the rushing game and it turned out to be the lead leaders by 500 yards and produce the highest average I have ever seen!! My passing game was amazing, as expected. I finished this year number one in both rushing and passing offense in both yards and average. Surprisingly my rushing defense ranked fourth and my passing defense was near the middle of the pack. PF: 557 PA: 306 Playoffs We draw 12-4 Arizona in the second round while two 10-6 teams battle in the other NFC playoff game. We split the season series and they were clearly the second best team in the NFL this year. Unfortunately the scheduling system for the playoffs sucks and we meet in round two. We blow them out 46-10. The running game came up big with 240 yards and three touchdowns and Summers passed for 338 yards and three touchdowns to put this one away early (28-0 at half). Greensboro comes to Richmond for the NFC finals. We toast them 31-3. Summers left this one after getting two touchdowns and two interceptions and his backup finished well to preserve the win. This years Super Bowl brings New England to Richmond. We defeated the Patsies 17-14 in our regular season finale in what was our lowest scoring game of the season. We're not too thrilled to face the only team to have figured out our offense in the regular season. This game plays out much differently however. We blow them out 33-3. My defense allowed just 16 points in this year's playoffs. Summers didn't throw a touchdown in this game, but the running game produced three. Rookie Phillip Cook won Super Bowl MVP for his two interception performance, but that is an award that will be shared by the entire defense for their amazing run through the playoffs. Alf: For the roster and stats, I used the "print to file" method to create a text file with info. Then I opened the text file, coped the relevant info and pasted it over here. Lastly, put the tags {pre}{font face="courier" size="+1"} before the that text and the tags {/pre}{/font} at the end of that text. Just replace the {} with <>. Subby: Thanks. I have a picture of his current ratings as well as what he looked like when I drafted him on the other thread. The funny part is, after his first two years his potential ratings had mostly dropped to the 50-60's due to various injuries and I almost dumped him for another guy. Ever since then though his ratings increased steadily to the point where he is near maxed out in every ability! Before him I hadn't had a QB with ratings like that since FOF2!!

My current QB in the WLC, Mercury de los Santos, is similar (although he didn't lose potential with injuries - he just looked like a reasonable backup with good third down skills when I drafted him) - he's now in his fourth year, and has current ratings well above his original potentials.
I also had a QB with a lot of potential whose development seems to have stalled - he had several potentials above 80, but his red never got much past 50 in any category. OK, QBs develop slowly (this guy was only in his 4th/5th year), but is there something in the game which means a player's potential is consistently misread (one way or the other)? If there is, drafting for current skills rather than potential in the later rounds makes a lot of sense (and not just from the point of view of trying to pick redliners) - why pick a guy who has great potential if he's never going to reach it? In my drafts, I almost always look exclusively for potential in the first three rounds and then almost exclusively for current ability from then on. My reasoning it that unless the player breaks out or is a special case, I almost never resign any players I drafted lower than rounds two or three anyway so I might as well get as much out of them for the two-four years they're on my roster.

I am assuming your Coach is EX in QB development - the type of skills increase you're describing seems to take place becuase of that factor, but I am wondering if there is another, hidden factor say a hidden 'late bloomer' rating...

2033 Richmond Archetypes Season in Review
Beginning of Season and Free Agency I don't make a change at coach and I resign my scout again this year to a five year, $2million deal. I have no UFA's eligible for franchising so I don't use the tag this year. Heading into free agency I have about $27 million in cap room and no free agents of note to resign. It looks like I can actually be a player in the free agent market for the time in years. There are not that many players available in my need positions. All the good players in this year's pool seem to be either linebackers or 35 year olds. Since I have the money anyway I decide to go after a pretty good weak-side linebacker. He his run stopping is in this 50's, but every other rating is high 90's. With my aging DE's, I might have to switch to a 3-4 defense in a few years with good pass rushing linebackers. I make an offer of about $32 million over three years to 28 year old Rick Adams of Manchester. He quickly sees the light and takes my offer in week three. In week eleven I notice a pretty good 29 year old DE is still available with no other offers. I make him a four year, $40 million offer. He doesn't return my calls so each week I lower the deal by about $750k. Finally after about three weeks he notices the pattern and signs my offer sheet. Amateur Draft With my first pick, I get exactly what I needed, a great safety to replace the departed Otis Goel. In the second round I get a decent DE who should contribute in a few years. In the third round I grab a QB who like he could be a great backup until his rookie contract ends. In the fourth I grab a decent center who I have a feeling might break out. In the fifth I get a FB who looks like he could become a star. Unfortunately the running back I was eyeing from round was taken in the sixth round before I had a chance to pick so I'll have to look deeper this year for my RB. I grab a redline RB instead. I pick up another semi-redliner in the seventh. Preseaon Position/Player Current Est Future Est Exp Sgnd I feel a little sad as I look over my roster. My two former defensive stars, Austin Porras and Cory Matthews are eating up a total of $26 million in cap space to basically play a backup role. I structured their last contract extension with no bonus (I've been overpaying them by a couple million each over the last few years instead) because I wasn't sure when they would retire and I didn't want to take a huge hit if they retired in the same year. Because of this, it would be so easy to just cut them now and save a lot of money, but I just can't bring myself to do that to these guys. Unfortunately because of my lack of cap room I'm afraid one of them will have to be cut if I need to sign an injury replacement player. In other disappointing news DT Ernie Sweeney showed up to camp with lingering signs of last year's season ending injury. The trainer tells me he has almost entirely lost his ability to accelerate laterally so he will be next to useless against the run if he ever does make it back this year. The good news for my defense is that I have three great linebackers and a second year with great potential for the first time ever. Circumstances seem to have forced me to dabble in the 3-4 this year and it looks as if I will be forced to use it exclusively next year. I think my secondary should still be the best in the NFL and it looks as if it can only get better over the next five years. Except for the Elder Statesmen Porras, and Matthews, I have actually managed to make defense much younger over the last few years and it should be a force again soon. The offense now looks to be the old ones of the bunch. Three linemen, my quarterback and my second wide receiver are all going into or past their 10th season in the league. Hopefully Summers will give me six or seven more good years, but just in case he retires early this year's third round pick looks more than capable of leading the team onward and upward in the future. Can we win the Super Bowl a seventh straight time this year? I would say certainly. Will wet? I highly doubt it, but if I've learned one thing in Richmond it would be to never bet against Levon Summers. Regular Season We open season 17 in Tennessee. We get spanked 20-34 by the mighty Titans. Without and decent running backs at all (these guys are even bad for URFA's) Summers was forced to the air 42 times. We travel to Philly this week and enjoy delicious Cheesesteaks… oh and we play the Eagles too. We win this one 28-3, once again proving greasy food is indeed good for you. One of my scrub running backs managed 144 yards on 25 carries to earn MVP for this one. We travel to Dallas this week to face the undefeated Cowboys. We defeat them 19-13 to move to 2-1. Its at this time I remember I forgot to raise my willingness to play injured players above 1 after the preseason! Whoops! At least I'm 2-1 which is pretty good considering the screw up and three straight road games. We finally get a home game against the Steelers. We take advantage with a 34-19 win. Summers threw for 290 yards, four touchdowns and no interceptions to earn a game ball on offense. Kesiter gets the MVP for his eight catch, 212 yard, two touchdown clinic he put together for the Pittsburgh secondary. The Giants come to Richmond this week. We defeat them 45-7 to once again assert our dominance in the NFC East. Summers completed 20 of 23 passes for 290 yards, four touchdowns and no interceptions. Apparently he's going for some kind of record. We travel to Washington this week looking for our fifth straight win. The 'Skins give it to us 48-31. Summers left the game early, but backup quarterback Frankie Henry came passed for 220 yards, four touchdowns, and one interception to lead the team to victory in the shootout. Luckily Summers will resume practice on Tuesday. We get our bye week this week, which should help my geriatric defensive line a lot. We travel to Jersey this week to gave the 2-5 Giants. We defeat them 28-21 to sweep the season series. Summers gets just under 300 yards, two touchdowns, and a single interception to lead the team. We travel to Arizona to face the resurgent 6-2 Cardinals. We whip them 27-24 to move a game and a half into first place at the midway point of the season. Summers threw four interceptions, but redeemed himself by leading the team to 10 unanswered points in the second half of the fourth quarter to pull this one out. We travel to St Louis to face the 6-2 Rams this week. We have been masters of our domain within the division, but we're not sure how the team will fare on the road against a great St Louis team. They fare well, earning a hard fought 16-13 win to move up to 8-1. Scrub RB Richie Garnder led the team with 150 yards and a touchdown on just 11 carries to cover up a subpar performance from Summers. The 3-6 Eagles come to Richmond this week and we blow them out 42-14 to move up to 9-1. Summers won this one almost singlehandedly with a huge 335 yard, FIVE touchdown, no interception game, The 5-5 Cowboys come to Richmond this week. I feel as if my division is suddenly very weak. I defeat them 20-17 to move to 10-1 on the year. Summers led the team with 347 yards passing, two touchdowns, and one interception. We travel to Greensboro, South Carolina this week to face a 6-5 squad. We win this one 32-16. This game was pretty sloppy. Eighteen of my points came on six field goals. Summers ran in the only offensive touchdown for my team and Beuerlein picked up a fumble and returned it six yards for the other touchdown. At least we're taking advantage of this weak schedule. Arizona comes to town at 7-5. If we win this one we clinch the division. We take it 38-10 to get our twelfth straight win. Summers was amazingly accurate in this game. Despite only throwing 19 passes he managed 5 touchdown completions. We travel to Portland this week to face the White Sturgeon. We take this one 35-3. Summers once again led the team, this time getting 295 yards and four touchdowns without an interception. The Cleveland Browns come into Richmond and bring their 8-6 record with 'em. We take this one 37-9. Summers left the game early, but his backup, Henry, played well getting 261 yards and two touchdowns. The hated Redskins come to Richmond this week at 6-9. We defeat them 47-17 to finish the season 15-1. Once again Summers led the way. Regular Season Recap At this point I don't know what to say. I feel like this team should barely be 10-6 and they finished 15-1. I'm starting to feel like no matter what I do they're gonna win which really disappoints me. I pretty firmly believe that the quarterback position is way to overbalanced in this game. Key Stats QB Leven Summers - 289/478, 3980 yards, 37 TD, 11 int, 103.3 QB Rating Great year as always. Especially great this year because he did it complete crap at running back and a much weaker defense than ever before. Also he left two three games after throwing just a few passes so these numbers could have been much higher. Running backs They were pitiful. No one got more than 600 yards. One guy got four touchdowns, no one else beat two. WR Marvin Kadletz - 73/119, 1149 yards, 15.7, 11 TD, 13 drops Great season except for the drops. I guess Summers needs someone to throw the ball to. WR Karl Thweat - 72/111, 937 yards, 13.0, 8 TD, 6 drops The more targets for Summers the better.. Team Statistics Rushing: 4.1 / 3.7 / 3.8 Passing: 8.2 / 6.5 / 6.7 My running back committee looks a lot better as a whole than as individuals this year. Despite having no one with an overall rating higher than fair and very few, if any, individual ratings above 50 I still managed to finish fourth in team rushing yards. My passing game was amazing as usual once again leading the league by a considerable margin in both yards and average yards. PF: 516 PA: 251 Playoffs We draw 9-7 for the second straight year in the playoffs. Luckily we have owned this team throughout our history and this is no exception as we power past them 39-7. Summers once again raised his game for the playoffs (scary, huh?) getting 413 yards and three touchdowns with no interceptions in the win. New Orleans comes to Richmond this week for the NFC championship game. We blwo them out 43-29 despite their fourth quarter flurry of touchdowns. We were up 17-0 at the end of the first quarter and 34-7 at the half so the game was not near as close as the final score indicates. I just noticed I had been resting several of my front line players since the end of the season (didn't really miss them much I guess) so I put them back in the game plan. Luckily no one is more than disgruntled over my slight. San Diego comes to Richmond for this year's Super Bowl. The Chargers finished 10-6 on the year so we're not at all scared. We blow them out 47-10 in the least exciting Super Bowl in about 40 years. It was 34-0 before they earned their first first down with a minute left in the second quarter. They would go on to get a total of seven more first downs the rest of the way out. Summers earned his third Super Bowl MVP by passing for 425 yards, four touchdowns and no interceptions. Keister caught eight of those passes for 151 yards and three touchdowns. 2034 Richmond Archetypes Season in Review
Beginning of Season and Free Agency One of the greatest players in Richmond history, DE Cory Matthews, decided to retire this offseason. He will be missed, but his decreasing skills had relegated him to a backup role last season anyway. I don't make a change at scout and I resign my coach again this year to a five year, $18million deal. I've got a couple UFA's this year I judge them to all be expendable and so I don't use the franchise tag and move ahead to free agency. One of the players I will be letting go this year is my twelve year starter at guard, Rusty Clancy. He was a true warrior for this franchise for a long time, but I feel the need to keep up my youth movement. Because of this I make a three-year, $30 million offer to a 27-year old pass blocking master. Karl Thweat who had been a great third receiver for me the last quickly signs a three year $53 million deal with the Jets in week two. In week three I notice Scott Mcgee's (the guard I am bidding on) old team, Chicago, steps in with a four year, $40 million offer. I immediately bump my offer up to four years and $46 million. I really need this kid, although the third year might prove costly at a projected cap hit of $12,333,000 before I can renegotiate in the fourth year. Finally in the sixth week he decides to come aboard. In the sixth week I also notice that my guard, Rusty Clancy has suddenly attracted lots of attention. I check his asking price and its actually really low for a player of his caliber. Afraid he might retire after this year I offer him a bonus free deal for three years at $29 million (8,9,12) that shouldn't be too painful. It also gives me the added bonus of being able to accept any trades offered to me for him or simply cut him if I can't manage to fit 53 guys under the cap. It's a couple million below his other offers and he just has average loyalty and low play for a winner so I doubt he'll accept my deal. Surprisingly he does the very next week! I advance the draft with a smile. Amateur Draft I head into this draft thinking offensive line. My 35-year-old offensive tackle, Aaron Craig, can't play forever, despite the fact his ratings haven't dropped yet, and I currently have no one ready to step in to replace him if necessary. Also my center is getting up there in age and I will need a replacement for him soon as well. My defense looks solid, but I certainly would not complain if one fell gift wrapped onto my lap (well I probably would if happened literally... those guys are freak'n huuuge, like Sputnik).
This year's draft was absolutely horrendous. I pretty started fishing for redliners around three because of the total lack depth and talent in this draft. Breakouts excluded, I hope none of these guys are around in five years. After the draft I am forced to release Austin Porras and his $15 million salary in order to afford to sign my 53. The Austin Porras/Cory Matthews Era officially ends. Ernie Sweeney, the one time breakout DT and anchor of my defense line, is also a cap casualty. He was once great, but he never regained his form after injuries of two years ago and his $10 million salary was really too much to justify. Looks like I'll be going with an entirely new defensive line next year. Preseaon Pstn Name Current Future CrntDff Ftrdff Exp Ctrnc I'm trying out a little change in my roster display this time out. I 've added how much each player's current and future ratings changed. Center Benjamin Vesquez is the big ratings loser and I'll really need to find a replacement for him as soon as possible. I had several "breakouts" from my redliner draft picks. Unfortunately all these players went from terrible to bad so that is nothing to really get excited about. Here is how my salary situation looks after I extend the contracts of guys in their last years. Still, despite the public's perception, this team has never been a one-man show. Summers has been great his entire career, but the defense has always been just as dominating. Looking at the 2034 version of the defense, I see none of the stars of the past. RJ Harvey and Cory Matthews retired this past year. Austin Porras and Ernie Sweeney became cap casualties after the draft. Probably the only player on the defense who played a key role throughout the championship run is Bryant Beuerlein. The offensive line which was once so key to running the ball is clinging to three aging starters, but is just a few years away from being as retooled as the defense. Except for Summers, Beuerlein, and the three offensive linemen this is pretty much a completely different team from the one that started the Super Bowl run. The focus of the team has changed as well from a running machine to a deadly passing attack. This year will be a real test for this team. We lost so many key players this offseason to age. Can we still win the big one? Regular Season We open the season in Oakland and take a 23-3 win behind great defense. Gene Kelly led the aggressive defense with 2.5 sacks. Summers left early and his replacement Frankie Henry came in to throw a great game. The hated Redskins come to Richmond Coliseum this week. We pound them 44-10. Summers threw for four touchdowns without an interception and Keister caught 11 balls for 202 yards and three touchdowns. My defense was again extremely aggressive getting eight total sacks. Gene Kelly and Max Cochrane led the team with 2.5 sacks apiece. We travel to New York this week to face the Giants. We win this one 13-10 as Summers led the team to 10 points in the final 5 minutes. Cochrane led the defense with 1.5 sacks. We travel to Arizona this week to face the Cardinals. We dominate them once again 40-15. Everett McDonell led the offense with 107 yards and a touchdown on 11 carries. Summers passed for three touchdowns, but also two interceptions. The defense continued to make big plays, this time in the form of three interceptions including one returned 81 yards for a touchdown by the nickel back. We travel to Mile High this week to face the 4-0 Broncos in what should be a good early season test of this team's strength. We passed easily winning this one 48-0!!!! The defense held Denver to 52 yards passing and their running game was taken out of the game due to a 21-0 deficit 10 minutes into the game. For his part, Summers got 359 yards and five touchdowns without an interception. My third string QB came on to finish this one and even got a touchdown of his own. Keister caught 10 passes for 155 yards and two touchdowns. Kadletz pulled in seven balls for 147 yards and two touchdowns of his own. Just to show how dominating my defense was in this one, here is the Broncos drive chart: Quar Began Poss From Plays Yards Result The Giants come into town this week at 3-2. They leave 3-3 after we defeat them 30-3 to move our own record up to 6-0. My defense has now given up 41 points through six games compared to 206 by the offense!! Summers played an efficient game getting 260 yards and a touchdown without and interception. Wesley Elston led the infantry with 80 yards and two touchdowns on 17 carries. The 3-2 Rams come to Richmond this week to face the dominating A's. We win a close one 20-17. Summers left this one very early after scoring two quick touchdowns, and Henry did just enough to the lead the team to a field goal with 6 second left to win this one. We hit our bye week at 7-0 and looking like a real juggernaut. After the bye we're forced to go to Washington to face the evil, evil Redskins. The Redskins are 5-2, so this looks like another good test for my team. We fail this one, losing 20-13 to ruin any hopes for a perfect season. Washington dominated my running game on this one and Summers must have left his cape at home. Philadelphia comes to Richmond Coliseum this week. The Eagles come in struggling at 3-5. We get back to our winning ways with a 47-13 win. Summers got back to his usual Superman role leading the offense with 382 yards and five touchdowns against only one interception. Rookie first round pick WR Monty Staten, playing in place of the injured Kadletz, caught eight balls for 132 yards and three touchdowns. Kesiter came up with seven for 136 yards and a single touchdown. The 3-6 Chargers come to Richmond this week. We blow them out 40-7. Summers moved the ball up and down the field with ease and the running game was able to finish the job by collecting four touchdowns on the ground. Staten followed up his big rookie starting debut with a nine catch, 115 yard, one touchdown game showing anyone can play WR when Summers is the QB. The 3-7 Cardinals come to Richmond this week and we smoke them 41-14. The running game produced about 150 yards and two touchdowns and Summers threw a decent game. This one was 35-0 heading into the fourth. Dallas is second in the division at 8-3 and they come to Richmond this week looking to close the gap. Instead we all, but clinch the division with a 24-22 win despite a late flurry of Dallas points in the final six minutes. Gene Kelly led the defense with two sacks and Karl Stultz pulled in two interceptions to win game MVP. We travel to Philadelphia this week. At 5-7 the Eagles are playing purely for pride at this point. They get a hefty dose after blowing us out 30-0. Summers played probably his worst game of the last ten years getting 133 yards, no touchdowns and two interceptions. He didn't make a lot of bad throws, but his receivers couldn't hold onto the ball and the Eagle secondary played above its head. The 7-6 Packers come to Richmond this week. We defeat them 20-13. Summers played poorly in this one, but his receivers bailed him out with good runs after the catch. We travel to the Big Easy to face the 9-5 Saints in what should be a pretty good late season game. We defeat them 34-24 to move up to 13-2. Summers bounced back from his two game funk with 350 yards and three touchdowns without an interception. Keister caught 13 of his passes for 162 yards and three touchdowns. We travel to Dallas this week to face the 9-6 Cowboys. They defeat us 31-28, but at 13-3 we're still the class of the league once again. Denver finished at 13-3 as well, but our 48-0 thrashing of the Broncos should give us the edge in home field advantage should we meet in the Super Bowl. Regular Season Recap This team started off totally dominating the competition. The 48-0 defeat of the second best team in the league in week five is probably my single greatest win in FOF history. This team looks like it really coasted into the playoffs after jumping out to 11-1 and that disappoints me. The 30-0 loss to Philadelphia is probably my single most disappointing loss in FOF history. Key Stats QB Leven Summers - 302/464, 3924 yards, 34 TD, 10 int, 106.9 QB Rating Another dominating year for Summers. I should mention I play with "Willingness to Play Injured Players" generally set at either 30 or 35 for the regular season so Summers leaves about 3-4 games early before year. Sometimes he leaves late, but every so once in a while he leaves early. I that if this wasn't the case he could probably get 4,500 yards and 40 touchdowns every year. Of course, if that wasn't the case he also might injure himself more seriously and miss whole games. I find it a very good tradeoff. Considering I hardly ever lose important players since I started setting the willingness so low. WR Myron Keister - 92/139, 1459 yards, 15.8, 12 TD, 8 drops Keister has really blossomed as Summers' number one target over the years. If he can get a few more years like this he should HOF bound. WR Marvin Kadletz - 66/117, 1045 yards, 15.8, 10 TD, 9 drops Kadletz has been putting up these kind of numbers for twelve years now. He might be the best second receiver in league history. Hopefully he has a few more years like this left in the tank. DE Gene Kelly - 16 tackles, 12.0 sacks, 6 blks, 2 hurries Kelly started the season hot with five sacks in the first two games. He cooled off after that, but he still had a decent season as a pass rush specialist. Team Statistics Rushing: 3.7 / 3.9 / 3.8 Passing: 8.4 / 5.8 / 6.6 My rushing defense looks below average, but for total yards allowed its actually 7th best in yardage. MY passing offense finished second in yardage allowed. My passing offense once again led the league in yardage and average. My running game was pretty much just above average. PF: 473 PA: 232 Playoffs We get 10-6 Dallas in the Divisional playoffs, a rematch of the regular season finale won by the Cowboys. We take this one 51-10. I guess the late season slump can be attributed to apathy. Summers always played big in big games and this was no exception. He finished with 301 yards and five touchdowns with only one interception. Kadletz caught 11 passes for 213 yards and three touchdowns. We get St Louis for in the NFC championship game. The Rams finished the regular season at 12-4. In the regular season we meeting we won a close one 20-17 with a walk-off field goal. We take this one much easier with a 42-17 victory. How does Summers play in big games? How about 483 yards and four touchdowns big? I never had such a great player whose play seemed to increase so much in big games. Meanwhile, Denver defeated Miami to earn a rematch of their early season trouncing. Having defeated this team 48-0 once before we feel very confident going into this game. This one doesn't look too competitive in the first half as we jump out to a 14-0 lead after giving Denver just five possessions in the half. They score early in the third quarter to make it 14-7 and the score holds until the fourth quarter. Denver tacks on a field goal to start the fourth to make it 14-10. Summers answers quickly with a touchdown to make it 21-10 with ten minutes left. Our defense really digs and holds the Broncos scoreless the rest of the way. Summers makes it safer with another touchdown pass and we get another field goal with one second left (why?!?) to make the final 31-10. Summer finished the game with 367 yards and three touchdowns, but Keister is awarded Super Bowl MVP for his 15 catch, 241 yard, one touchdown performance. Individual Awards Rightfully, the passing game dominates this years awards. 2034 Richmond Archetypes Season in Review
Beginning of Season and Free Agency I keep my scout and coach. I forgot to "update" my stadium in 2032, but I remember this year. I have sold out every game for at least ten years and have excellent support for a new construction so I ask the tax-payers to fully fund a brand new maxed out stadium for their beloved Archetypes. I feel its the least they could after building me the crappy one I have now. Fifth year offense tackle Ronnie Weaver gets the franchise tag this year. I have no free money so I sign no free agents. Amateur Draft I notice that almost all my players rated excellent by my scout are veterans of 10 or more years. My core of players is getting old, but with the last pick in the draft it seems the only studs I can get are safeties, linebackers, and guards. Once again the draft is pretty talent poor. Amateur Draft Report: Preseason Position/Player Current Est Future Est Exp Sgnd Regular Season We open the season at home against Dallas. We win this one 24-21 despite giving up 14 points in the fourth quarter. Karl Stultz pulled in two interceptions and Beuerlein returned his for a touchdown. We travel to New Orleans this week and win another close one 17-14. Summers leaves this one very early and backup QB Frankie Henry does just enough to get the win and keep it. Summers looks to miss one or two weeks. I was contemplating giving Henry a start (he's disgruntled) so I don't mind the injury too much. Henry gets the start in Arizona and the team gets its third straight close win 32-29. Henry left this one early and the third stringer played well to get the win. Keister made his life easier with nine catches for 177 yards and one touchdown. My two best quarterbacks are now banged up, luckily my bye week is next week. We get through the bye week without incident and both quarterbacks heal. We travel to Philadelphia after the bye to face the 3-0 Eagles in a battle for earlier season control of the NFC. We take it for now with a 20-13 win. No Archetype really plays well in this one. This weeks MS Sports Illustrated asks this question across the cover, "Are Archetypes Finally Mortal?" The Giants come to Richmond for our second home game of the season. We please the fans with our first dominating win, 34-11. Alex Buress busts out with 153 yards and two touchdowns on 25 carries for the first flicker of light this season from the Department of Ruushing. Summers does his thing with 75% completions, 249 yards, two touchdowns and no interceptions. We travel to Dallas this week to face off against the 3-3 Cowboys. We take this one 16-14 in our closest game yet. Summers played efficient football, but this one was won by the kicker. The 1-5, hated Redskins come to Richmond today. We take advantage of their weakness with a 36-0 win to move to 7-0. Summers passed for 254 yards and three touchdowns and Perry kicked five field goals for the win. We travel to Miami to face the 3-4 Dolphins this week. Summers play has been very uninspired so far this season and we're looking for him to have a huge game any day now. He completes 10 of 11 passes for 116 yards and two touchdowns before leaving this one. The team doesn't miss a beat and goes on to win 40-13. DT Winfred Jackson dominated the trenches with three sacks and S Karl Stultz controlled the air with two interceptions and a touchdown. Philadelphia comes to Richmond Coliseum. They enter this game at 7-1, having lost their lone game to us in week five. We blow them out 43-14. It looks like whatever lull the offense was in early in the season has been cured in the last three weeks. The running game proved well over 200 yards and three touchdowns to take this game. The 4-5 Cardinals come to Richmond Coliseum this week. We demolish them 38-3 to move to 10-0 on the season. Summers returned to old self with 315 yards and three touchdowns. Renaldo Evans produced 75 yards and two touchdowns on 13 carries. Winfred Jackson once again led the pass rush with two sacks. Buffalo comes into Richmond at 6-4. They leave at 6-5 after we thoroughly defeat them 34-14. Summers passed for 338 yards and four touchdowns in this one to lead the team. The Rams come to Richmond at 6-5. We defeat them 49-18. RB Alex Buress runs for 136 yards and a touchdown and Grady Ezell gets 86 and a touchdown of his own. Summers again is brilliant with 307 yards, four touchdowns and a single interception. We travel to Washington to face the hated Redskins. We defeat them 38-25 to move to 13-0 and clinch home field advantage in the NFC. The offense plays a balanced game and Maximus Cochrane leads the defense with two sacks, one blocked pass, and one hurry. We travel to New York to face the 3-10 Giants. We win this one 31-17 to move to 14-0. Summers once again led the team with 294 yards and three touchdowns. We travel to Tampa Bay this week to face the 8-6 Bucs. This looks to be a serious challenge to our hopes for a perfect season. We win 24-18 to move to 15-0. The offense once again played a balanced game and the defense did just enough to win. The 10-5 Manchester Ice Weasels are all that is separating the Richmond Archetypes from the immortality of a perfect season. The team responds with a 41-7 dominating performance to finish 16-0! Summers must have considered this a big game cause he came up huge with 489 yards, five touchdowns and just one interception in 39 attempts. Kadletz caught seven of those attempts for 167 yards and three touchdowns. The defense played aggressive the whole way through to shut down the Weasels. Regular Season Recap This year the team started off looking extremely vulnerable and I was starting to expect a 10-6 finish. The coaching staff must have said something magical during the bye week because the team totally dominated everyone from that point on to finish with their first perfect regular season. Key Stats QB Leven Summers - 266/415, 3779 yards, 33 TD, 8 int, 111.9 QB Rating Levon Summers missed his first start in three years this year, but still managed to put up great numbers in his 15 games. His interception total is pretty amazing I think. WR Myron Keister - 88/138, 1520 yards, 17.2, 10 TD, 11 drops This season may have just put this one time 36th overall selection in the HOF. How many teams do you think regret not taking this guy? WR Marvin Kadletz - 81/139, 1165 yards, 14.3, 14 TD, 6 drops Kadletz may have just stamped his own ticket to the Hall. He's putting up numbers like this ever since he was the 11th overall pick 13 years ago. DT Winfred Jackson - 31 tackles, 10.5 sacks, 1 blks, 1 hurries Action Jackson played well in his first 16 game season as the anchor of the defensive line. S Karl Stultz - 39 tackles, 7 int, 1 TD, 21 cght, 9 dfns, 60.5 PDQ Stultz played exceptionally in his third season. I don't think I've ever seen a regular starter have a PDQ so high! Team Statistics Rushing: 3.8 / 3.4 / 3.7 Passing: 8.9 / 6.2 / 6.7 Just when I thought my passing attack couldn't possibly improve, they add half a yard to their average. My defense ranked first against the run and fifth against the pass in total yardage. My offense finished sixth in rushing yards and first in passing. PF: 517 PA: 231 Playoffs We draw Philadelphia for our first playoff game. We win it 41-14. Summers led a balanced attack with 282 yards passing and two touchdowns. It looks as if Keister won't be able to participate in this year's playoffs. Portland comes to Richmond for the NFC championship game. We win this one 24-17. Summers played badly, but the running game produced 150 yards with Renaldo Evans getting 85 yards and two touchdowns to carry the team. We lose third WR Staten for the Super Bowl. Should be a real test of Summers' ability without two of his top three targets. Denver is our opponent in the big game. They finished the regular season at 14-2 and look to be our toughest opponent yet. Last year we owned them in the regular season and Super Bowl, but they look a lot tougher this year. Phillip Cook starts the scoring with an interception returned 23 yards for a touchdown. We add a field goal and a touchdown on the ground to make it 17-0 early in the second quarter. Denver scores a touchdown of their own with 50 seconds left to make it 17-7 at the half. Summers comes out strong and his McCarthy with an 11 yard TD pass to make it 24-7 early in the third. The Broncos respond with a touchdown of their own not one minute later to make it 24-14 with 9 minutes left in the third. They shalt know the endzone no more in this one and we tack on a touchdown and a field goal to make the final score 34-14 and we finish the year with 19 wins, no losses and the Lombardi trophy in hand. Phillip Cook is announced the Super Bowl MVP for his interception/touchdown. (D) What happened to your shooting star late round RB selections -- Van Pelt, Crowder, and Habib -- after they left your offense? Thanks for reading! Off hand I know the answer to some of those questions and the rest I'll look into. A lot of them I have been interested in as well, but just never really looked into. I'll answer what i can now and fill in the blanks via edit as soon as I can.
(A) The number one pick in the 2024 amateur draft was an all american, can't miss DE from UCLA by the name of Barry Perez. Unfortunately this can't miss kid was a huge bust. Barry was cut after a pitiful rookie season and was never to return to football. The number two pick that year was a 5'11" WR from Oklahoma St by the name of Calvin Stearns. Calvin looked like a superstar coming off his first training camp. In his first year he put 105 catches for 1695 yards and 11 touchdowns to win both Offensive Rookie of the Yead and 1st Team WR! He just finished his 13th year in the league and so far he has 951 catches (17th all-time) for 14253 yards (6th) and 71 touchdowns (17th). Stearns has played his entire career at Chicago and is truly a star. The number three pick in 2024 was an OT by the name of Dave Wolf of the University of Wisconsin. Dave played in four games without a start his rookie year. Since then he has started 191 of a possible 192 games. He has spent his entire career in Buffalo and has received three all-pro awards. The pick after Summers was also a quarterback, but he was a complete bust. (B) Sammy O'Donnell was not picked up in free agency the next year and sat out the entire year. He just kind of disapeared after that. What a shame. That kid had a great arm... (C) Myron Keister looked exactly the same on draft day as he does today except at that time his current ratings were in the 40's or so. He wasn't a break out or anything... I guess the other teams' scouts just didn't like him. (D)Despite having terrible ratins Toby Habib actually performed well after her left my team Hie ran for over 1000 yards in each of the next two years. The yeat after he left my team he got around 1100 yards on over 7 yards per carry! I don't understand what made him run so well... his ratings really stunk. Actually all those guys stunk (except Austin Coleman) they just put up great numbers behind an awesome offensive line. (E) McCarthy was a breakout. Unfortunately I don't have a screenshot of what he looked like precamp. I don't remember him looking very special before.. just kind of a random thing for him I guess. 2036 Richmond Archetypes Season in Review
Beginning of Season and Free Agency No one retires this offseason which is great because every offseason I really worry about Summers deciding to go out on top. My coach is starting to get old, but I haven't seen a suitable replacement anywhere for the last few years. The guy has won 14 Super Bowls and 74% of his regular season games, though, so we'll be hard pressed to replace him. My scout is still the best in the business and just in his early 50's so I might be able to last with him until the end of the challenge. This year three key starters are UFA's. Thirty-seven year old offense tackle Aaron Craig, 35 year old WR Marvin Kadletz, and 26 year old LB Leon Harrison. All three of these guys are studs, but I really feel Craig and Kadletz are just too old to resign despite the fact that they have been stars on my team for the last decade. I franchise Harrison and sadly head into free agency. I'm pretty tight against the cap this year so I skip free agency once again. I should have enough money next year to bring in a solid player. Amateur Draft I am in dire need of an offensive tackle in this year's draft so I will probably break my own rule and "reach" for the best available. This year's draft is pretty terrible once again. I do reach for a OT, but really any player would have been a reach for the first round anyway. This draft is terrible all the way down... so much so I forgot to print the draft list. Preseason Position/Player Current Est Future Est Exp Sgnd Regular Season Jacksonville comes to Richmond for the season opener. We pound them 46-17. The running game powers in three touchdowns and the secondary pulls in three interceptions to win this one. Arizona comes to Richmond and we defeat them 34-14. Summers throws for 304 yards and three touchdowns to lead the offense. Gene Kelly gets three sacks and Karl Stultz two interceptions to lead the defense. Dallas comes to Richmond this week as we continue our season opening homestand. We defeat them 30-12 to move to 3-0. Summers passed for 350 yards and two touchdowns in the win. We travel to Cincinnati to face the 2-1 Bengals for the first time in years. We win this one 23-17 as Summers throws for 250 yards and two touchdowns. We travel to New York to face the 4-0 Giants this week. We lose this one 30-31 on a last minute touchdown drive by the Giants. Summers passed for 326 yards and two touchdowns in the loss. The 3-1 Redskins come to Richmond this week. We take this one 31-10. Evans ran for 86 yards and three touchdowns on 12 carries. We get our bye week this week. Hopefully starting OT Ronnie Weaver will be healthy to play for the first time this season next week although he looks like he'll never be the same player again. The Giants come to Richmond this week. The Giants now lead the division at 7-0. We really need to take this game to even the gap. We get it 44-0 behind 398 yards and three touchdowns from Summers. Keister caught 12 balls for 197 yards and three touchdowns. Philadelphia comes to Richmond at 5-3. The NFC East as been down the last few years, but it seems as if it might be getting better again. We lose this one 19-6 to fall 1.5 games behind the Giants. My injuries are really piling up now and it looks as if Ronnie Weaver may never come back. That is terrible luck for me as OT was my weakest position by far heading into the season. San Francisco come to Richmond and we blow them out 45-17. Summers passed for 302 yards and three touchdowns without an interception. I wonder if I'm finally starting to ask too much of Summers, but he seems to be giving me more and more each year. In other news, the Giants lose so we pull within half a game of first. We travel to Arizona this week where I defeat the Cardinals 34-14. Summers passed for 307 yards and two touchdowns. This guy really only has one decent receiver left, but his numbers haven't dropped at all so far. We travel to Dallas to face the 3-7 Cowboys this week I notice before the game my rookie tackle is now lost for the year. Its starting to look like I'm gonna have two guards starting for me at tackle from now on out. We manage to win 20-14 despite using the stadium janitor play left tackle. Summers once again stepped up with 375 yards passing and two touchdowns to lead the troops. Tamps Bay comes to Richmond at 4-6. We defeat them 34-18 to move up to 10-2. Summers passed for 263 yards and four touchdowns with just a single interception. Karl Stultz pulled in two interceptions to lead the defense. We travel to Philadelphia this week to face the 6-6 Eagles. We win this one 31-0. Summers passed for 336 yards and three touchdowns without an interception. Keister caught nice passes for 175 yards and a touchdown. We travel to Portland this week to face the White Sturgeon. We win this one 30-17. Summers once again led the team with 446 yards passing and two touchdowns. Kesiter caught 10 passes for 178 yards and one touchdown. We travel to Cleveland to face the 6-8 Browns. I think this is the first time we have ever played the Browns. We defeat them 40-0. Summers throws for 210 yards and three touchdowns before leaving the game early. We head into Washington to face the hated Redskins in the final game of the season. We lose this one 31-21, but it doesn't matter as we will still win home field advantage throughout the playoffs as the only 13-3 team. Summers led the team with 345 yards and two touchdowns in defeat. Regular Season Recap This team was actually pretty decent. I'm surprised we were able to win 13 games with a guard and a URFA starting at tackle for almost the whole season. I think the reason for all the wins is that Summers really carried the offense almost entirely on his back even more so than before. Key Stats QB Leven Summers - 344/595, 5006 yards, 35 TD, 16 int, 93.7 QB Rating With the loss of key players to free agency and injuries all around him, Summers was forced to step up his play even beyond his usual level of excellence. These numbers are amazing considering he really only had one good receiver to throw to this year. Unfortunately Summers QB Rating dropped by about 18 points which shows he may have been asked to do too much this year. WR Myron Keister - 116/201, 2048 yards, 17.6, 15 TD, 12 drops With the loss of Kadletz it was clear Keister would have to elevate his game. Still, these numbers amaze me. I think I never had such a prolific receiver before in a challenge career. WR onty Staten - 88/160, 1397 yards, 15.8, 7 TD, 15 drops This guy is pretty bad as can be seen by his low catch percentage and high number of drops. Still, with Summers throwing the ball any receiver can put up huge numbers. He had an amazing year for a second receiver. DE Max Cochrane - 50 tackles, 12.0 sacks, 5 blks Max bravely played well above his ratings to carry on the tradition of Porras and Matthews and should win a first team award for these numbers. S Karl Stultz - 69 tackles, 8 int, 28 cght, 4 dfns, 47.4 PDQ Stultz really looks to be a great safety in the mold of RJ Harvery. Team Statistics Rushing: 3.5 / 3.8 / 3.9 Passing: 8.4 / 6.9 / 6.7 The running offense seemed to suffer with all my injury problems on the offensive line. Without a running game it was hard to control the clock late in games and the result can be seen in the increased yardage allowed on defense. PF: 498 PA: 231 Playoffs Atlanta comes to town for my first playoff game. It looks like both my starting DE's will miss the playoffs. That now means I have guards starting at OT and DT's starting at DE. No worries in the first game though as we demolish 11-5 Atlanta 42-0. Summers passed for 297 yards and four touchdowns without an interception. New Orleans comes to Richmond this week. My starting TE is the latest to suffer a season ending injury. That makes five starters out and several other doubtful or questionable. New Orleans comes in after a great 12-4 regular season and looks to be a tough match-up considering all my injuries. We win it 47-0 anyway. Summers passed for 243 yards and three touchdowns before leaving the game early. Frankie Henry came on and finished it with 219 yards and two touchdowns. Neither QB threw an interception. Keister caught 14 passes for 265 yards and a single touchdown. Bryant Beuerlein led the defense with three interceptions. The bad news is that Summers is now listed as doubtful for the Super Bowl with a pulled groin. Summers doesn't look good, but he really wants that tenth ring so we decide to start him at his request. Indianapolis is our opponent for Super Bowl 2036. We have met the Colts many times in the Super Bowl throughout the last ten years and with Summers and so many other banged up, this one looks to be our toughest challenge. Summers comes out strong with three touchdown passes in the first 20 minutes to put us up 21-3 early in the second quarter. We hold the Colts scoreless the rest of the quarter, and then we manage to score 16 points in the final two minutes (after getting two consecutive interceptions deep in Colt territory) to make it 37-3 going into the half. The third quarter is a battle of punts before we tack on another touchdown midway through the fourth to make it 44-3. Indianapolis manages a lone touchdown with 30 seconds left to make the final score 44-10. Summers left early, but only after accumulating 348 yards and three touchdowns despite the groin injury. Monty Staten was awarded Super Bowl MVP for his 13 catch 200 yard, two touchdown performance. Both cornerbacks recorded an interception. 2037 Richmond Archetypes Season in Review
Beginning of Season and Free Agency For the last few years, my first move in each new season has been to check the retirements page to see if Summers decided to leave. He's up to 37 years old now and just now starting to lose his ratings so I'm really afraid he will leave any year now. Luckily he decides to come back this year. My coach is now 62 years old. I almost go after a 57 year old, but in the end decide I can't give up my current guy's excellence in offensive and defensive play calling. My scout is still great although he is also starting to get. I'm gonna try to keep him as long as I can though. I franchise DT Benjamin Grauman and head into free agency. This year I have no real free agents to worry about about almost $30M in cap room before extending contracts. For the first time in a couple years I can actually dabble in free agency! I really need a good OT. Luckily there is a 26 year OT at the top of the free agent pool! I immediately make him a three year $45 million offer. Its significantly more than he was asking for so hopefully he'll accept it quickly. I notice some other teams make him deals within $3M of mine, so I up the first year salary by $3M to put mine ahead by $6M (I desperately need this guy!) He doesn't accept right away so I lower it to a two year, $32M offer. He was asking for a two year deal to begin with and mine is $10M than any other (and just $6M less than the highest three year offer). He doesn't accept that offer after two weeks so I go back to my three year, $45M offer. Meanwhile, my backup QB, who is more than capable of starting, signs a two year $45M deal with Atlanta. Its now week seven and this OT hasn't signed despite my huge offer. FINALLY… in week 10… he agrees to terms! Franchise Players
Amateur Draft This year's draft looks much much much better than the past few years'!!! In the first round I get a CB who looks like he'll be a superstar in a few years. In the second round I get a DE who should also be a pretty decent start in two years time. In the third round I get a WR who looks at least as good as the guy I had to take in the first a few years back. In the fourth I get a center who looks like he's become much better than my current starter! In the fifth round I get a decent safety who should make a pretty good backup for a few years. The talent really dries up after the fifth round and I take two decent backup RB's to finish the draft. Preseason Position/Player Current Est Future Est Exp Sgnd I actually think my roster is now the best its been for years. Summers is beginning to show signs of his age, but he's really surrounded by a great team. Every position, with the exception of QB, has great depth for the first time ever. As long as Summers stays healthy this team should once again compete for the Super Bowl. Regular Season Our opening week opponent this year is Kansas City. I don't think I have ever played this Chiefs, so this will be their first trip into Richmond Coliseum. We win this one 20-10. Summers left this one early (I left my willingness to play inj players at 1 by mistake AGAIN!!) and his replacement played well. Keister didn't even play in this one so they were certainly not getting my A-game on offense. We travel to Washington this week to face the hated Redskins. We blow them out 34-0. Summers passed for three touchdowns in the first 20 minutes of this one and then coasted to the finish line finishing with 250 yards, three passing touchdowns, and one rushing touchdown. The aging Bryant Beuerlein pulled in two interceptions and defended three passes to lead the defense. The Cowboys come into Richmond at 0-2 this week. We defeat them 37-27 to move to 3-0. Summers led the offense with 319 yards and a touchdown. The 2-1 Giants come to Richmond this week. We defeat them 37-19. Renaldo Evans rushed for 94 yards and a touchdown to lead the offense. Max Cochrane finished with three sacks and two hurries to lead the defense. Seattle comes to Richmond this week. The Seahawks are 2-2. We win this one 47-3. Summers played a great game getting 322 yards, four touchdowns, and no interceptions. Keister caught 9 balls for 121 yards and three touchdowns. Beuerlein led the defense by allowing just one catch, defending three passes, and pulling in an interception. We travel to Dallas this week to face the 1-4 Cowboys. We take this one 34-17 to move to 6-0. Summers led the offense with 296 yards and three touchdowns (all in the final 17 minutes), but almost threw the game away with two interceptions in the first quarter. Rookie second round pick Bryan Upshaw led the defense with three sacks. We travel to Atlanta this week to face former Archetype Frankie Henry and his 2-3 Falcons. We lose this one 20-13. Henry outplays Summers getting two touchdowns to none for Summers. Luckily I get my bye week. Between 5-10 of my starters are probable or doubtful now so I really need the rest. The Redskins come to Richmond this week at 4-3. We win this one 21-16 to move up to 7-1. Summers passes for 317 yards and two touchdowns without an interception to lead the offense to victory. We travel to 1-7 Arizona this week and win a close one 19-13. My replacement kicker made a field goal to send this one to overtime where Summers hooked up with Keister for the winning touchdown. Summers finished with 249 yards and two touchdowns without an interception. We travel to Colorado Springs to face the 4-5 Squirrels this week. We blow them out 38-3. Evans led the offense with 105 yards rushing and two touchdowns. My fourth cornerback scored a meaningless touchdown off an interception in the closing minutes. We travel to New York to face the 6-4 Giants this week. Unfortunately we find out before the game that superstar WR Myron Keister will miss the rest of the season with a broken arm. Because of his age, I doubt he will ever come back. We win this one 42-16 without him, but I'm sure we'll miss him greatly come playoff time. Even without his favorite target, Sumemrs was able to get 262 yards and three touchdowns. We travel to Philadelphia this week. The Eagles are 8-3 and sitting in second place in the division. We blow them out 41-7 to move to 11-1. Summers led the offense with three touchdowns despite passing for only 172 yards. Emerging star safety Phillip Cook led the defense with two interceptions. Arizona comes to Richmond and we win this one 35-14 to move to 12-1. Summers once again led the offense, this time putting up 233 yards and three touchdowns. We travel to the Windy City to face the 6-7 Bears this week. We win this one 39-21 to move to 13-1. My punter led the offense by converting six out of seven field goals in place of my injured kicker. Summers kept the ball moving and three players each scored a rushing touchdown. The 8-6 Saints come to Richmond this week. They pull off the upset 17-12 to drop us to 13-2. My offense didn't find the endzone for the first time I can remember. Philadelphia comes to Richmond for out final game. The Manchester Ice Weasels lead the AFC East with a 13-2 record so we need to win this game to have hopes of home field throughout the playoffs. We win this one 7-3 in probably the worst game I have ever seen in FOF. Manchester won as well, so we'll just have to wait and see what happens should we meet in the big game. Regular Season Recap This team played very well despite numerous injuries. I can tell Summers is really starting to lose his arm, but he was still good enough to lead the team to a great year. The loss of Myron Keister will hurt in the playoffs. Luckily I had two guys ready to step in when he went down. Despite it being one of his worst years of the past decade he still had a great year. WR Myron Keister - 10 games, 53/84, 729 yards, 13.6, 7 TD, 6 drops Keister was on pace to have a decent year. Despite the stats saying 10 games, he didn't play in the first game or much of the tenth so these numbers really came from just eight games. If you double them I think you have a pretty good season in line with what Keister had been putting up that past few years. WR Monty Staten - 79/129, 1104 yards, 13.9, 11 TD, 5 drops Despite moving being the primary receiver half the season, Staten's numbers actually mostly dropped. He did raise his TD total and led the league so this was a good year for him. S Phillip Cook - 45 tackles, 7 int, 1 TD, 23 cght, 3 dfns, 53.4 PDQ This was a good year for Cook, but my safeties always put up great numbers. CB Bryant Beuerlein - 46 tackles, 6 int, 35 cght, 11 dfns, 50.4 PDQ This was a great year for the elder CB. The 11 defenses show how good of a cover CB he is. Team Statistics Rushing: 3.9 / 3.1 / 3.8 Passing: 7.9 / 6.0 / 6.5 My passing offense dropped below 8 YPA for the first time in probably 10 years. Both aspects of my defense showed great improvement as I led the league in rushing yardage allowed and placed fourth in passing yardage allowed. PF: 476 PA: 206 Playoffs New Orleans comes to Richmond for our first playoff game. New Orleans is one of two teams to defeat me this year so the team is a little scared going into this game. We win the rematch 37-13. Atlanta, the other team to defeat us gets blown out in the other NFC game so we won't have to play them again. The running game produced over 200 yards and three touchdowns to lead the way in this win. Summers passed for 257 yards and a touchdown. Karl Stultz is game wins game MVP for his three interceptions. St Louis comes to Richmond this week for the NFC Championship game. We blow them out 26-3 to set up the much anticipated Manchester/Richmond Super Bowl. This year's Super Bowl will be played in Manchester despite our identical regular season records. Manchester is actually heavily favored in this game so it looks to be a tough one for us. If Summers has one more clutch performance left in the tank we should be in good shape… if not we'll most likely lose this one. Before the game our chances our bolstered incredibly when Myron Keister is cleared to play! It really looked like he was gone for good, but he really wants this one and he somehow made his way back. He will start, but we're not sure how much time he'll get on the field. Nonetheless, this is a huge boost in talent as well as morale for my team. The Ice Weasels get possession to start the game, but we hold them to a three and out and get the ball on our own 45 yard line.10 plays later, Summers finds Keister in the endzone for a four yard touchdown score! Manchester fumbles after getting deep into our territory and we trade punts until M manages to get a field goal. We answer back quickly with a Summers to Staten touchdown to cap a seven play, 53 yard drive. We trade punts the rest of the half so we go into the locker room with a 14-3 lead. We come out and get a field goal on our opening drive to push it up to 17-3. Manchester answers quickly this time with a touchdown drive of their own to make it 17-10. We trade punts again and Manchester tacks on a field foal to make it 17-13. We answer with a thirteen play, 69 yard drive for a touchdown to make it 24-13 in the middle of the fourth. My defense holds and we tack on another field goal to make the final score 27-13. Summers wins the Super Bowl MVP award for his 179 yards and three touchdowns through the air. 2038 Richmond Archetypes Season in Review
Beginning of Season and Free Agency Once again I check the retirements in fear. Once again, I am relieved to find Summers still has the desire to come back and play another year. Summers is now 38 years old and heading into his 15th season. He has won 12 Super Bowls, 6 league MVP's, 3 offensive player of the year awards, 7 first team awards, 1 second team award, and three Super Bowl MVP's. He ranks 15th in pass completions with 3,532; ninth in passing yards with 47,383; and second in touchdowns with 381. The two receivers that played most of their careers with him, Kadletz and Keister, currently rank first and second all-time in receiving touchdowns. It would probably take three productive seasons for him to move into first place on all passing records and its highly unlikely it will happen. He should easily get the touchdown record this year though. This year we got our first inductee into the NFL Hall of Fame. S RJ Harvey played almost his entire career at Richmond and finished his 16-year career third all-time in interceptions with 79. He also accumulated 943 tackles and 330 assists as he really anchored the defense during his years. He made it into the HOF with 85% of the votes. K Wesley Holmberg was also enshrined a few years back, but he chose to enter as a Saint despite playing almost his entire career with the A's. My coach is now 63 years old and starting to loose his ability. Unfortunately I see no coaches worthy to carry on the Archetype tradition so I can now make a switch yet. I resign my scout to a five year deal. I franchise my young kicker and head into free agency with $26 million to spend. This year's free agency features an amazing safety and wide receiver a pretty good 30 year old QB and a good run-stopping DT. I actually flirt with the idea of taking the QB, but dump the idea when I realize he most likely won't last the final nice years of this challenge. Due to Keister's injuries last year I am in dire need of a WR so I decide to pursue this one with the of cutting Keister if needed to afford it. Money will be tight this year and maybe next year as well, but I can really see hope in the near future. The WR takes a much smaller offer to sign with Green Bay in week seven. Its probably for the best as I need to be thinking about hoe to rebuild my team for the post-Summers era rather than adding expensive pieces for this year. In week eight I sign a fifth year DT with great run stopping ability to a four year deal that will never break $10 million per year in cap hit. Franchise Players
Amateur Draft This year's draft is again very solid. With the 36th pick I have my choice of a pretty good running back, a great guard prospect and a superstar cornerback. The cornerback's currents ratings are very high so he is suspicious, but I decide to take him. I am happy to see that the running back dropped to me in the second round. I would have taken the guard, but Denver grabbed him up with the 24th pick of the second round. In the third round I get a good center prospect. The rest of the way out is pretty much filler players. Despite Summers' impending retirement I actually feel like this team is in good shape for the future. I have several over-priced veteran players taking up a good deal of the cap, but most of those will be either gone or renegotiated within two years. An example is Rick Adams. Right now his cap figure is $18 million and his bonus counts for just $500k of that. He most likely won't be back next year which should alone give me the fund to bring to pay two star linebackers. With two hot young CB prospects, Bryant Beuerlein and his $13 million cap figure will also be gone next year. Summers is in the last year of his contract as well so he will either retire or be franchised. Either way it will free up plenty of cap room. CB Mark Estevez is expendable now and so could be gone as well next year if I need the $7 million I could get by cutting him. I will most likely need to get a quarterback next year, but at least I will have plenty of free cap room to stockpile players for the stretch run of this challenge. If I can't get a good quarterback next year, at least I should have the personnel to run the 75-offense. Regular Season After finishing the preseason at 4-0, we head to Washington to open our 22nd professional season. We win this one 26-14. Three players led the defense with two or more sacks each, including linebackers Rick Adams with three and Edwin Heller with two. Atlanta comes to Richmond for week two. We pulverize them 47-14 behind the strong play of Levon Summers. He finished the game with 337 yards and four touchdowns without an interception. Four players each picked off one pass each to lead the defense. Arizona comes into Richmond this week and we defeat them 27-13. Summers once again played big, this time getting 365 yards and two touchdowns. Keister proved he's not too old by pulling in 11 catches for 217 yards and two touchdowns. DE Byron Upshaw led my big-play defense this week with 2.5 sacks. We enjoy a well-deserved bye week before hosting 3-0 Dallas in week five. We shut them out 38-0 to earn the huge win. The running game produced -1 yards, but Summers managed 238 yards and five touchdowns on just 21 pass attempts to carry the team to victory. Third safety Howard Jacquet was the big play man of the defense this week with two interceptions. We travel to New York this week to face the 2-3 Giants. We win this one 24-17 to move up to 5-0. DE Byron Upshaw once again recorded two sacks to lead the defense. We travel to Philadelphia this week to face the third place, 4-2 Eagles. They defeat us 38-26 to tighten up the division race. Summers passed for 379 yards and two touchdowns, but also threw two interceptions. Philadelphia scored 21 unanswered points in a span of almost three minutes to start the fourth quarter including one score off a fumble return and one off an interception return. The 3-4 Manchester Ice Weasels come to Richmond this week. We defeat them 38-10 to move up to 7-1. No one played outstanding on offense, but rookie nickel back Tim Richey returned an interception for a touchdown. We travel to Dallas to face the 7-1 Cowboys this week whose only loss came in a 38-0 shutdown against the A's. They get revenge this time winning 24-17. The offense was once again uninspiring, but CB Bryant Beuerlein managed to return in interception for a touchdown in this one. Luckily it looks as if most of my injured players are trickling back. We travel to Arizona this week and get back on track with a 27-6 win. The offense played poorly once again, but DE Byron Upshaw managed two sacks and S Philip Cook pulled in two interceptions to lead the way. We travel to New England to face the 6-4 Patriots. We win this one 20-17 despite letting New England score 10 points in the final 2 minutes to send it to overtime. My starting kicker was injured, but the punter made a 22 yard field goal for the win. Rookie RB Vince Walker led the offense with 115 yards and a touchdown. Summers played well for the first time in weeks getting 327 yards and a touchdown without an interception. Dallas lost as well which makes us tied at 9-2. We travel to St Louis this week to face the always tough Rams. They are also 9-2, so this looks to be a huge game. We win 38-0. During Summers tenure, this team has always played well in the big games. Summers played big with 312 yards and three touchdowns without an interception. Vince Walker continued his improved play of late with 91 yards and a touchdown on the ground. DE's Gene Kelly and Ernie Harris contributed two sacks apiece to lead the defense. Dallas lost again so we move into first place. Philadelphia comes to town having slipped to 6-6. We don't help them much with a 40-7 victory. Summers ran in two touchdowns and passed for another to lead the offense. Karl Stultz was game MVP after intercepting three passes and returning one for a touchdown. Unfortunately we lost start linebacker Rick Adams for the season to a torn calf muscle. The 6-7 Giants come to Richmond this week and hand as a 25-20 defeat! Summers literally threw this one away with two first half interceptions. To make matters worse, the 12-2 Green Bay Packers come to Richmond this week. We need to win this game to keep any hope of home field advantage. Even if we win this game we'll be in a three way tie heading into the final week if Dallas wins as well. We win 35-13. Summers bounced back from his poor play with 263 yards and three touchdowns and Philip Cook returned a interception the distance. We travel to Miami to face the 8-7 Dolphins needing a win and some help. We win this one 40-20. Dallas wins as well, but Green Bay loses to rop to 12-4. We are tied with Dallas for first in the league, but only one of us can get the bye and home field... the other must go through the Wild Card route. Luckily a look ahead tells me Dallas will have to take the hard road. Green Bay's loss dropped them into a tie with St Louis and St Louis had the tiebreaker. Two teams going into the final week tied for the best record in the NFL dropped into the Wild Card rounds. Tough luck. Perhaps the more interesting thing is that I had to play each of these three teams this year and finished 3-1 against them including two 38-0 shutout wins. Oakland finished 13-3 to lead the AFC. Regular Season Recap This years team played great despite the difficult schedule. I am a little disappointed because of the offense's midseason slump but things look good heading into the postseason. Key Stats QB Leven Summers - 335/564, 4368 yards, 35 TD, 11 int, 96.3 QB Rating Summers bounced back from last year with an amazing year for a 38 year old quarterback! Hopefully he'll be back for one more run next year, but this might very well have been his last year. RB Vince Walker - 201 carries, 822 yards, 4.0 avg, 6 TD Vince is the first RB to deserve mention in several years. He only started half the games this year and played sparingly so he should put up much better numbers next year. He's under contract for five years so he'll have some time to grow here. WR Myron Keister - 10 games, 82/140, 1295 yards, 15.7, 9 TD, 5 drops Keister bounced back well from last year's injury plagued campaign. Unfortunately he is in the last year of his contract so this may have been his last year as an Archetype. DE Byron Upshaw - 46 tackles, 10.5 sacks, 0 blks, 6 hurries Byron looks to be the anchor of the defensive line for the rest of this career as long as he doesn't demand too much money in three years when his contract expires. CB Bryant Beuerlein - 60 tackles, 5 int, 1 TD, 26 cght, 9 dfns, 45.4 PDQ Bryant scored big in his final year as an Archetype. I am most impressed by the 60 tackles coming from the cornerback position. Only allowing 26 catches is pretty good as well. Team Statistics Rushing: 4.0 / 3.6 / 3.9 Passing: 7.5 / 5.9 / 6.7 My passing offense continued to drop but my running offense started to get better. I expect that to be the trend for the next several years. PF: 490 PA: 231 Playoffs Division rival Dallas comes to Richmond for our first playoff game. *We win this one 42-13. Summers always plays well in the playoffs and this year is no exception. He completed 27 of 34 passes for 406 yards and four touchdowns without an interception. We get St Louis in the NFC championship game. We defeated the Rams 38-0 earlier this year so we expect them to come in angry. We manage to win this one 30-24 despite allowing St Louis to tie the game at 24-all with a minute left in regulation. FB Stan Umphenour broke a 20 yard run for the winning touchdown in overtime. Walker led the offense with 105 yards and two touchdowns on just 15 carries. This years Super Bowl will once again be played at Richmond Coliseum. The 13-3 Oakland Raiders will be this year's AFC entrants. Oakland comes in with a power rating of 87. In a normal year they would easily be the best team, but not this year as we have an amazing 98. Incidentally, Dallas was second with a 93. Oakland strikes first to make it 7-0 five minutes into the game. They scored another touchdown three minutes into the third quarter, but in between they gave up 24 points to make it 24-14. It would be their last score of the day as we went on to put 24 uncontested points to finish the game 48-14. Summers earned game MVP honors for his 414 yard, five touch touchdown and no interception performance. Keister caught eight passed for 126 yards and three touchdowns. 2039 Richmond Archetypes Season in Review
Beginning of Season and Free Agency This year LB Rick Adams decided to walk away from football. Levon Summers and Myron Keister come back for one more year. Summers will be franchised this year so it most likely will be his last season whether he likes it or not. Unfortunately, the greatest coach in NFL history also decided to retire this year. Jessie Carco leaves the game with 17 Super Bowl rings (four with Indianapolis and 13 with Richmond). He won over 75% of his games and leads the league with 356 wins. I get a 46-year-old coach with decent ratings after being shunned by a 37 year old with great potential. I may make a change here again next year. I have nearly $90 million free this year, but Summers should take about $30 million of that for his franchise deal. Either way I should be able to bring in one major free agent. I check out my trade offers before going into free agency and I am literally floored. First off, Manchester is offering me the 7th overall pick for scrub QB Zach Whiting!! I immediately accept. Just when I think I may have gotten the best deal since Hershel Walker, I see Chicago is offering me the 2nd overall pick for my future star running back Vince Walker! I really liked Walker for a second round pick, but he's just a running back and with the second pick I have the chance to get the QB of the future! Of course I accept. In free agency I make a three year $42 million offer to a pretty good DE. He signs with Denver in week two. I go after a fifth year WR with the same offer and he signs with New England in week five. Suddenly it looks as if neither player or coach wants to come to Richmond. I make a three year $27 M offer to an average LB whom no one else seems interested in yet. He signs on in week seven. Since I came up snake eyes in free agency, I go ahead and sign Summers to a four year $140M contract just to ensure he will end his career with the A's. Only $4.5M of the deal is bonus so I won't take a huge hit if he retires after this year. The cap hit for the next three years (if he comes back) is pretty much exactly the same as I would have had to pay for his franchise contract this year so I think it's a good deal. Franchise Players
Amateur Draft For the first time in more than 10 years I have several high picks this year. With the second pick I take an amazing DE. I haven't seen one this good since FOF2!! His currents are 50,50,99 and his potentials both go to 100! My only worry is he will bust, but I still can not pass up such an exceptional player. With the seventh overall pick I take a great DT. I now should have an amazing secondary and defensive line to make my defense great over the next ten years. With my usual 36th pick I take a Wide Receiver and with my second round pick I take a pretty good RB. I rush through the rest of the draft and go on through training camp because I'm so anxious about my top picks. Luckily they all came out golden AND a rookie free agent RB breaks out to look like a pretty darn good player. Preseason
In this one offseason I managed to give this team the defense of the future as well as open the door to three more years of play from Summers if he wants it. All this and still a healthy $10M under the cap which should allow me to bring in a top notch free agent next year. Still the passing game should suffer greatly with an aging Summers and lack of quality receivers. Regular Season We travel to nearby Baltimore for this year's opener. We win this one 27-13. I forgot to put the starters playing time and willingness to play injured players above 1's so the team played pretty pitifully. Rookie DT Singleton, the seventh overall selection in this year's draft, recorded two sacks and Estevez returned an interception for a touchdown. We travel to Philadelphia this week to face the 0-1 Eagles. We lose this one 20-13. Romo led the defense with 111 yards and a touchdown, but Summers did not play. My two backup QB's combined for four interceptions. Summers looks to be out 3-5 weeks. IN his absence we switch to the "75" offense for the first time in maybe 15 years. We travel to New York to face the 2-0 Giants this week. We lose this one 0-27 to fall to our worst record in years at 1-2. Summers' replacement threw for three interceptions. Cincinnati comes to Richmond this week. We win this one 31-24 to move back up to 0.500. Summer played the first few drives before leaving this one. The defense and the kicker won this one. The Cardinals come to Richmond this week and we defeat them 30-24 to move to 3-2 without Summers. Romo ran for 141 yards and two touchdowns to carry the offense. Karl Stultz pulled in two interceptions to keep the game close. We travel to Washington this week to face the much hated, 4-0, division leading Redskins. We shut them out 28-0. Caly Tubbs passed for 243 yards and three touchdowns to lead the team to 4-2 without Summers. Second overall pick DE Corey Ricksecker led the defense with two sacks. We get our bye week and feel extremely happy to be 4-2 without our superstar quarterback. We travel to Arizona and win 16-10 to drop Arizona to 2-6. Summers played poorly in his first game back but Romo led the way with 114 yards and a touchdown. We travel to Dallas to face the 6-2 Cowboys. We lose this one 20-23. We travel to New Orleans to face the 6-2 Saints. We win this one 22-7 to move to 6-3. Romo rushed for 101 yards and Summers picked up two touchdowns through the air. Philadelphia comes to Richmond this week at 6-3. We win this one 13-6 to move up to 7-3. Romo ran for 121 yards to lead the team. The Giants come to Richmond this week at 6-4. We win 27-17 to move into a tie with Dallas for the division lead. Romo led the team with 146 yards and a touchdown. Summers played his first good game of the year with 303 yards and two touchdowns. We travel to Green Bay this week to face the 4-7 Packers. The embarrass us 33-6. No one showed up on offense. I'm beginning to wonder if Summers stayed around one year too long. Dallas comes to Richmond this week tied for the division lead at 8-4. This a huge game and the winner will have a huge edge in the division standings. We take it 21-13. No one played well. The 9-4 Rams come to Richmond this week in another huge showdown with playoff implications. We win this one 26-24. Summers passed for 223 yards and two touchdowns to lead the team. The 8-6 Jaguars come to Richmond this week. We win this one 24-7 to move to 11-4. Romo led the team with 119 yards and a touchdown. Estevez led the defense with two interceptions. The hated Redskins come to Richmond at 8-7 for the regular season finale. We win this one 31-21 to move to 12-4 and clinch home field at least up until the Super Bowl. Montgomery led the team with 118 yards and two touchdowns. Summers played extremely efficiently, completing 18 of 22 passes for 231 yards and two touchdowns without an interception. Ricksecker led the defense with two sacks. Regular Season Recap This year's team played the first six games without Summers, struggled even after he came back and still managed to win 12 games. The running game seemed to make a huge comeback as well. Key Stats QB Leven Summers - 176/324, 2200 yards, 13 TD, 9 int, 77.4 QB Rating Summers missed the first six games to injury and then played hurt the rest of the way. At 39, he is no where near the player he was five years ago. Still you have to admire the heart he showed this year and you always have to respect him come playoff time. RB Bryce Romo - 244 carries, 1164 yards, 4.7 avg, 6 TD Bryce took advantage of Summers injuries to put up great numbers. He won't be back next year due to his contract expiring. DE Korey Ricksecker - 32 tackles, 9.5 sacks, 4 blks, 7 hurries This was a pretty good first year for the amazing Ricksecker. Look for him to double these numbers some day. Team Statistics Rushing: 4.2 / 3.0 / 3.8 Passing: 6.8 / 6.9 / 6.6 No one could run against us, but we couldn't stop the pass very well at all. That along with my poor passing game seems to be the main reason for the team's slippage this year. PF: 335 PA: 269 Playoffs We host Detroit in our first playoff game this year. We easily defeat them 38-17. Montgomery led the team with 111 yards and two touchdowns. Both my starting defensive tackles record two sacks to carry the defense. Tampa Bay comes to Richmond for the NFC championship game. We send them home with a 38-14 defeat. Romo exploded for 175 yards and three touchdowns to carry the team to victory. Philip Cook led the defense with two interceptions. This year's Super Bowl will be played in Richmond. Buffalo comes to town and actually brings a slightly higher power ranking (Tampa Bay was tops in the league this year). We're still favored by the oddsmakers because of the homefield however. Buffalo started the game off with a missed field goal. We then drove 51 yards for the touchdown. Buffalo punted four straight times while we added ten more points to make it 17-0. Buffalo missed another field goal and we scored again to make it 24-0 at the half. We came out and scored a quick field goal and then followed it up with a touchdown to make it 34-0. Bufallo finally answered with a touchdown to make it 34-7 heading into the fourth quarter. My defense held the Bills to 19 yards and the kicker added another field goal to make the final 37-7. My running game combined for almost 200 yards, Summers through 232 and a touchdown, but the game MVP was WR Ethan Newman for his eight catch, 170 yard, two touchdown game. 2040 Richmond Archetypes Season in Review
Beginning of Season and Free Agency I look for a better coach, but find none. This career has really been extremely lacking in coaching depth. I franchise a fifth year TE and move onto free agency. I heads into free agency with a little over $40M free space after extending the deals that need to be extended. This year's free agent pool is very deep. I see a WR, a DE, and several LB's who look great. I decide to go after the WR as it is a large need position, but I don't really think he's worth the money for which he is asking. I match his asking price, but in week two find he has many bid higher than mine. I simply can not budget enough money to meet the other offers so I decide to make him a bonus free two-year deal worth $35 million. It lets me match the other offers on a yearly average without killing my cap for years to come. In about week five Philadelphia jumps into the bidding with a four year $74M deal! This guy is the best available WR, but he really isn't *THAT* great. His catch rating is only 40, YPC is 95 and the rest are mid 80's. In week eight I am surprised to see he accepts my short offer! I guess the flexibility of the deal as well as the chance to play with a legend made up for a lack of bonus (my the first year of my deal was worth more than the first year he wanted plus the bonus he wanted so its actually a really good deal for him as well). In week eleven there is an amazing LB left without any bids! His asking price is pretty good as well so I decide to make him his requested offer of three years for $25M. Two weeks later he accepts. My defense should be its best ever this year. If I can pull a good wide receiver or an offensive tackle in the draft this team would be one of the best I ever had. Franchise Players
Amateur Draft After all the fun I had with last year's draft, this one looks to be quite boring as I return to my usual 36th slot. This year's draft is pretty pathetic so I draft for need and depth from the start. This was truly a terrible draft. Preseason Position/Player Current Est Future Est Exp Sgnd I think this team looks to be improving at every position except quarterback. At 40 years old, Summer is quickly losing his ability. Hopefully he still has one good year left in him. At a little over 12% of my cap, he better have something left. Summers asks to be placed inactive for the exhibition and we gladly accept. Summers throws for two touchdowns without an interception to lead the offense. The amazing Korey Ricksecker record two sacks and a hurry to lead the defense. We travel to the land of cheesesteaks to face the evil Eagles this week. We win 35-21 to move up to 3-1. Aleman led the offense with 169 yards and a touchdown. Last year's two top seven picks led the defense this week. DT Singleton recorded 1.5 sacks and Ricksecker recorded one sack and a hurry. We travel to Kansas City this week to face the 2-2 Chiefs. We win this one 30-3 to move up to 4-1. Aleman led the offense with 150 yards on the ground and Summers once again through for two touchdowns without an interception. Ricksecker once again led the defense with 1.5 sacks to move him up to 6.5 in the last four games. The Cardinals come to Richmond this week and we blast them 37-0. Summers play like the Summers of ten years back with 376 yards and two touchdowns to carry the offensive load. Ricksecker records a sack and two hurries to lead the defense. This week the 3-2 Rams come to Richmond looking for trouble. We blow them out 48-0 to record consecutive shutouts. Summers led the team with three touchdowns without an interception. Four players recorded a sack, although Ricksecker did not record anything despite being on the field for 35 plays. We get our bye week this week which means no one scored on us for the third week in a row. We travel to New York to face the 2-5 Giants this week. We win this one 31-14. Summers passed for 301 yards and three touchdowns to make up for his two interceptions. Ricksecker led the defense with 2 sacks, a hurry, and a pass deflection. The 6-2 Cowboys travel to Richmond this week. We knock them out 28-7. Summers leads the offense with two touchdowns without an interception. Karl Stultz and Frankie Baker each pull in two interceptions to lead the defense. The 5-4 Oakland Raiders come to Richmond this week. We demolish them with a 40-9 win. Ricksecker led the team with two sacks and a hurry. The 4-6 Philadelphia Eagles come to Richmond this week. We win this one 45-21. Summers passed for 238 yards and three touchdowns to make up for his two interceptions. Ricksecker led the defense with two sacks, a hurry, and a pass deflection. The hated Redskins come to Richmond this week with a 5-6 record. We win this one 34-10 to move to 11-1 on the season. Summers carried the team with 314 yards and three touchdowns without an interception. Ricksecker and Singleton each recorded two sacks to lead the defense. We travel to Dallas to face the Cowboys this week. At 8-4 they are currently in second place in the NFC East. We win this one 23-6. Aleman returned to form with a146 yards rushing and Summers once again passed for two touchdowns without an interception. Tim Richey led the defense with two interceptions. This week the 5-8 Buccaneers come to Richmond to play for some pride. We win 44-13 to deny them the pleasure. Aleman rushed for 132 yards, but Summers played one of his best games 288 yards and five touchdowns. Ricksecker once again led the defense with two sacks and a hurry. We travel to the Big Easy this week to face the 7-6-1 Saints. We win a close one, 26-20. This was an all-around team effort and no one's stats really stand out. We travel to Washington to face the 7-8 Redskins in the final game of the season. We win another close one, 20-17, to end the season at 15-1. WR KC Penny led the team with 11 catches for 140 yards and a touchdown. Regular Season Recap This team played very well. Summers played more like his old self and the defense played very well under the lead of young Korey Ricksecker. Summers managed to pass Arnie West for the career passing yards record and is just about 150 completions away from the completions record. I wonder if Summers can play at 41 after having a great year at 40. Key Stats QB Leven Summers - 317/512, 3882 yards, 34 TD, 10 int, 99.2 QB Rating Summers was already the most popular sports figure in the world heading into this season. But after putting up these numbers at the age of 40 he has become the human-interest story of the decade and could probably be elected president if he wanted it. RB Peter Aleman - 302 carries, 1275 yards, 4.2 avg, 10 TD Aleman put up the best numbers of any runningback in my system since the great Austin Coleman. Luckily he still has two years left on his contract. WR Dwayne Hefner - 83/137, 1269 yards, 15.2 avg, 13 TD, 7 drops Coming into the year I was afraid Hefner would have a problem with catch ratio and drops. He had neither had a great season statistically. DE Korey Ricksecker - 17 tackles, 17.5 sacks, 3 blks, 12 hurries Ricksecker came pretty close to my prediction of doubling last year's sack total in just his second season. His tackles were down which is disappointing, but he tortured opposing QB's all season long which is worth a lot in my book. S Karl Stultz - 52 tackles, 1 sack, 6 int, 1 TD, 14 dfns, 63.7 PDQ Stultz put up an amazing number of defended passes to earn his exceptionally high PDQ and anchor the secondary. Team Statistics Rushing: 4.0 / 3.2 / 3.8 Passing: 7.5 / 6.5 / 6.7 The team improved in most areas and has the record to show for it. PF: 526 PA: 198 Playoffs We get Atlanta for game one this year. We blow them out 54-7. I held them to 45 rushing yards and 78 passing yards. Their only score came on an interception return for a touchdown. They never really had a chance. Greensboro comes to Richmond this week and we win this one 16-14 after going into the fourth with a 16-7 lead. We held them to 24 yards rushing. Aleman ran for 104 yards and Summers played mistake free to lead the offense. The defense did just enough to get the win. This week Denver comes to Richmond for the Super Bowl. We start the game by scoring consecutive rushing touchdowns to make it 14-0. Denver gets a field goal, but we answer with a touchdown to make it 21-3 with a little over a minute and a half left in the first half. Denver manages an 87 yard touchdown drive to score before time runs out to make it 21-10 at the half. Denver comes out and manages to score first in the third with a touchdown to make it 21-17. We answer with a six play, 66 yard touchdown drive to make it 28-17 with just over five minutes to go in the third. That score holds until about six minutes into the fourth when Denver a touchdown and a conversion to make it 28-25 with nine minutes left. We get the ball back at our own four and manage to move 66 yards before being forced to punt. Denver goes on an eight play, 78 yard drive to score a touchdown and take the lead 32-28 with just over two minutes remaining. We manage only 20 yards before punting it away. We manage to hold them and get the ball back with about a minute and a half remaining at our own 41 yard line. We manage to get the ball to their 22 yard line, but can't get it in the endzone as time expires. It looks like their successful two point conversion was the play of the game as it forced my team to go for the endzone instead of a tying field goal. The headlines in Richmond's newspaper Monday morning reads simply, "THE STREAK IS OVER." Beginning of Season and Free Agency Shortly after the Super Bowl loss we get the inevitable, yet terrible, news that Levon Summers will walk away from the game he loves so deeply just before is 41st birthday. There is no doubt that Summers is the greatest football player of all time after leading his team to 14 Super Bowl victories in his 17 years at the club. He will most assuredly be missed. In his honor we decide to name our year old stadium Summers Field. I franchise starting OT Freddie Calabrese and head into free agency with over $60M in cap room. Portland offers me the twelve pick in the draft for my third year QB Clay Tubbs. Tubbs is obviously not my long-term answer at QB, but he's the best I have right now. His contract expires at the end of this year and there is no way I will bring him back. I decide to take the risk and hope for a good QB to fall to me at 12. Just in case I can't pull a decent QB from the draft, I make a large ($95M) three year, bonus free offer to a 37 year old QB with decent ratings. He signs with me in week three. Amateur Draft Of course both the decent quarterback's in this year's draft go in the top three picks. I take a pretty good DT with my twelve pick as I now plan to win with defense and rushing in the post Summers era. I am actually quite stunned to see both the good centers taken before my 36th pick! This draft is looking extremely weak so far. I get a WR with my second first round pick, and a RB with my second round pick, and then go redliner fishing the rest of the way out. Preseason
Well… after seeing Morgado's post on breakouts I started looking for players that fit his profiles. I had FIVE breakout players this year! Two of them went from terrible to bad, but three of them actually look like real superstars now! I think my team is the deepest its ever been except for the QB position. This team has five great DT's, the best DE I ever saw in 2k1, and another solid DE. Regular Season The hated Redskins come to Summers Field this week for the season opener. We defeat them 27-24. Rookie RB Sammie Northcut comes off the bench to gain 117 yards on 11 carries. Neal Rendon steps into Summers place and plays well getting 200 yards, two touchdowns, and one interception. Ricksecker leads the defense with two sacks. We travel to Atlanta and lose 19-28. Aleman ran for 128 yards, but Rendon through two interceptions and only one touchdown. Singleton led the defense with 1.5 sacks. Since my defensive line is so dominant, I decide to drop the blitz % to 40 and the blitz multiple to 10. I think my defensive line is so good it will pressure the QB enough with or without sending the linebackers. Hopefully this will allow the rest of defensive to concentrate more on stopping the run and dropping into coverage. We travel to New York to face the 1-1 Giants this week and win 29-17. Aleman ran for 133 yards and a touchdown. Renden threw for 341 yards and a touchdown, but also had two interceptions. Ricksecker led the aggressive pass rush with two sacks. I get my bye this week. I'm thinking about lowering my blitz percentage even more, but I'll see how things go with it at 40. We travel to Philadelphia this week to face the evil, 3-0 Eagles. We win 27-20. No one really played well on offense, but Ricksecker led the defensive line with 2.5 sacks and two players pulled in an interception to win this one. The 3-2 Cardinals comes to Summers Field this week and we blow them out 51-7. Neal Renden played the best game of his career with 323 yards and four touchdowns to lead the team. Ricksecker caused havoc on nearly every play and finished with an amazing four 4 sacks. Philip cook returned an interception 95 yards for a touchdown. I think I really like the low blitz percentage. Ricksecker seems to put more than enough pressure on the QB all by himself so I lower it to 25. We head to Washington to face the hated Redskins. We defeat them 35-10. Neal Renden played great again getting 335 yards and three touchdowns. The 3-3 Cowboys come to Summers Field this week. We win this one 38-7. Aleman ran for 181 yards a touchdown and Renden passed for 321 yards and three touchdowns to lead the team. We travel to Indianapolis this week to face the 4-3 Colts. Aleman led the team with 102 yards and a touchdown. Ricksecker now has 13.5 sacks at the halfway point of the season. Philadelphia comes to Summer Field to start the second half of the season. We win this one 42-13. Aleman ran for 120 yards and a touchdown and Renden passed for two touchdowns without an interception. Ricksecker led the team with 1.5 sacks to put himself at 15 after 9 games. The 3-6 Giants come to Richmond this week. We win this one 35-6. Renden had another great game to lead the team with 345 yards and four touchdowns without an interception. Ricksecker led the defense with 1.5 sacks (16.5). The 3-7 Patriots come to Richmond this week. We win this one 41-17. Renden played excellent once again, this time getting 281 yards and three touchdowns without an interception. Ricksecker scored a sack to move his season total up to 17.5. St Louis comes to Richmond this week at 4-6-1. We win this one 27-14 to move up to 11-1 and clinch the NFC East. Renden passed for 317 yards and two touchdowns without an interception. Ricksecker and Singleton each scored 2 sacks. Ricksecker now has 19.5 this season. We travel to Dallas this week and win 34-3. Renden led the offense with 226 yards and three touchdowns. Ricksecker and Singleton led the defense with 1.5 sacks apiece. This puts Ricksecker at 21 for the year. We travel to Arizona this week to face the 7-6, playoff hungry Cardinals. We get slaughtered 13-44 as Renden misses the game. We travel to Washington to face Greensboro. We win this one 9-3. Ricksecker led the defense with 2.5 sacks. The 8-7 Dolphins come to Summers Field this week. We win 33-17 to finish the season at 14-2. Renden came back from his injury to lead the team with 327 yards and three touchdowns. Ricksecker finished the season strong with three sacks. Regular Season Recap This team played amazing on defense after I switched to the non-blitzing, nickel scheme. Ricksecker is truly an amazing player and was pretty much the main reason I was able to play such a defense with success. It seems as if this team is invincible whenever Renden plays like Summers. Key Stats QB Neal Renden - 306/487, 3860 yards, 34 TD, 8 int, 103.8 QB Rating The team expected a huge dropoff with Renden replacing Summers this year. Instead, Renden surprised everyone by putting up numbers virtually identical to even Summers best years. Perhaps there has always been much more to this team than merely great quarterbacking. In Summers defense, Renden had a much better running game than Summers and much better receivers than Summers did in his final few years. RB Peter Aleman - 247 carries, 1159 yards, 4.6 avg, 8 TD Consecutive great seasons from a runningback is a rarity on this team. Aleman really brought balance to the offense again this year. WR Dwayne Hefner - 70/111, 1077 yards, 15.2 avg, 6 TD, 4 drops Hefner's number dropped from last year due to the development of other receiving options. Still he put up great numbers as the primary receiver. DE Korey Ricksecker - 25 tackles, 26.5 sacks, 7 blks, 8 hurries Ricksecker was a one man wrecking crew this season. I think opposing quarterbacks in the NFC East still have nightmares about him. S Karl Stultz - 81 tackles, 8 int, 1 TD, 5 dfns, 42.6 PDQ Stultz put up another great year making several big plays to anchor the secondary. Team Statistics Rushing: 3.7 / 4.0 / 3.9 Passing: 7.6 / 5.7 / 6.6 The rushing yards allowed stat is misleading. Opponents hardly rushed at all on us and our overall rushing defense was in the top ten. The important thing is that we stopped teams from passing on us after we built our huge leads. PF: 484 PA: 230 Playoffs Detroit will be my first opponent in this year's playoffs. We win 32-13. Aleman rushed for two touchdowns, Renden passed for 291 yards and a touchdown without an interception and Ricksecker recorded three sacks. We get the Atlanta Falcons this week. The Falcons defeated us earlier this year, but we are still confident. We lose 3-20. The defense could not stop Atlanta's running game as we allowed 220 yards on the ground in this one. Atlanta goes on to defeat Denver 9-7 in the Super Bowl. 2042 Richmond Archetypes Season in Review
Beginning of Season and Free Agency This year we would like to welcome Marvin Kadletz to the NFL Hall of Fame. Marvin caught 991 passes for 15,061 yards and 110 touchdowns. He played his entire career with Summers and certainly has the numbers to show for it. Only Kadeltz's teammate, Myron Keister, caught more touchdown passes in the history of this career. My current coach currently has the best winning percentage in league history at 47-9, but he has not produced a Super Bowl in two years. Luckily for him there are no better coaches available this year. I franchise 35 year old offensive guard Scott McGee just to bring him back for one more year. I am offered the twelve pick and a good TE for 25 year old DT Neal Singleton. He was the seventh overall selection a few years ago, but he has since been rendered expendable by the two amazing DT's I drafted last year. I decide to take the offer until I notice that Singleton is a fellow Northwestern graduate which makes him untouchable to other teams. I just can't treat a fellow alum like that. I check my roster and find that I actually had five Northwestern graduates on my team last year, although three of them were URFA's. I guess it's a subconscious thing. I head into free agency with almost $35M in cap room. I see a pretty good 29 year old QB who could probably lead the team through the end this career so I make him a four year $120M offer. MY offer dwarfs the other two and three year offers he's got. In week five he signs on with the A's making last year's league MVP completely expendable. I cut Renden and his $30M salary which helps a lot. I'll need the money soon when my three superstar breakouts come do for contracts. Actually the WR is a RFA this year and he gets a four year, $40M contract. At the end of free agency I am offered the tenth overall pick for Singleton. Its tempting but I decide to keep him. Next year is a contract year for him so I'm probably except these offers if I get them again next year. Franchise Players 2018 None Amateur Draft This year's draft is pretty weak. I get a good TE in the first round and that's about it. Preseason Position/Player Current Est Future Est Exp Sgnd This team is the easily the best team I have ever fielded on paper. It better be because the cap situation is really going to explode in the next two years. Every one of my cornerbacks will be a free agent next year. I'm going to lower my team blitzing to 10 this year because I feel my starting defensive line is incredibly dominating and deep enough to constantly outplay opposing offensive lines. Hopefully this will allow the rest of my team to fully concentrate on stopping the run or covering the receivers. Regular Season Baltimore comes to Summers Field this week and gets clobbered 37-0. Leland Wooden leads the offense with 130 yards and a touchdown (I accidentally left willingness to play injured players at 1 again…) and Benzer throws four touchdowns without an interception. Ricksecker only played eight plays because of my stupidity. We head to Washington to face the hated Redskins. We win this one 36-14 behind 81 yards and two touchdowns from Aleman. Benzer throws for 352 yards and a touchdown, but also two interceptions. The evil, evil Eagles come to Richmond this week at 1-1. We win this one 26-21. Aleman ran for 111 yards and a touchdown and Benzer threw for 284 yards and two touchdowns. Ricksecker led the defense with three sacks. We travel to Pittsburgh to face the undefeated Steelers this week. We win this one 27-14. Ricksecker led the defense with two sacks, a hurry, and a pass deflection. We travel to New York this week to face the 2-2 Giants. We win this one 34-21 despite a huge number of mounting injuries. Aleman rushed for 144 yards and a touchdown to lead the team. Benzer finished off the drives with three touchdowns without an interception. Ricksecker led the defense with two sacks. The 1-3 Cowboys come to Summer Field this week. We win this one 45-15. Benzer led the team with 355 yards and three touchdowns. This week we get a much-needed bye. Hopefully I'll get some of my injured starters back next week. Somehow My starting receiver tore his biceps muscle during the bye week and will now miss the rest of the season… The 4-3 Giants pay a visit to Summers Field this week. We win this one 26-21. The running game produced 120 yards and two touchdowns as no single players played outstanding. The 5-3 Cardinals come to Summers Field this week. We easily defeat them 34-3. The running game produced four touchdowns this week to carry the team. Ricksecker recorded 1.5 sacks, a hurry, and a pass deflection to lead the defense. This week the 6-2 Forty-niners travel to Richmond. We defeat them 34-15. Benzer led the team with 271 yards and three touchdowns without an interception. We travel to Washington this week. They edge us out 23-20. Aleman rushed for 98 yards and a touchdown and Benzer played well, but my defense couldn't make any plays. We travel to Philadelphia this week to face the 5-5 Eagles. We win this one 32-20. No one on offense played well, but Karl Stultz managed to return an interception for a touchdown. The 5-6 Packers come to Richmond this week. We lose this one 14-24. We travel to Arizona this week to face the 7-5 Cardinals. We win this one 31-17. Benzer led the team with 309 yards and four touchdowns. We travel to Atlanta to face the 9-4 Falcons in a rematch of last year's NFC championship. This time we win 20-17. No one played very well. We travel to Cincinnati to face the 7-6-1 Bengals. We win this one 20-17 to move to 13-2 and clinch home field advantage throughout the playoffs. Aleman led the team with 159 yards and a touchdown. We travel to Dallas this week to close out the season. We lose this one 27-3. Regular Season Recap I still think this team is pretty good despite the second half collapse (4-3 in last 7 games). On paper this team should be amazing, but in real life it lacks the killer instincts of all those great Summers led teams. Injuries took a huge toll this year as well as I played with out several starters (including my QB) for many games. Key Stats QB Kelvin Benzer - 267/428, 3598 yards, 28 TD, 5 int, 106 QB Rating The team played very well under Benzer's leadership and the performance suffered greatly over the final three games without him. Could it be three straight MVP awards for my three different QB's in three years? RB Peter Aleman - 228 carries, 1112 yards, 4.8 avg, 8 TD Aleman put up three consecutive good seasons for the A's. Unfortunately he will not be back next year. DE Korey Ricksecker - 24 tackles, 15.5 sacks, 5 blks, 10 hurries Ricksecker's sack total dropped greatly in his fourth year, but she still win 1st team honors. LB Korey Frogatt - 114 tackles, 31 assists, 1 sack Frogatt played very well considering I have other good linebackers on this year's team. Team Statistics Rushing: 4.2 / 3.6 / 3.9 Passing: 7.9 / 7.3 / 6.5 My offense improves in both areas. The most disturbing thing is that my defense finished last in the league against the pass!! I guess I have to consider the blitzing experiment to be a total failure. PF: 439 PA: 270 Playoffs I move my blitzing up to 40 for the playoffs. We get Arizona for our first game and win 24-7. Benzer led the team with two touchdowns and no interceptions. We face the Detroit Lions for the NFC Championship. We win this one 27-3. Ricksecker led the defense with two sacks and two deflected passes. This year's Super Bowl pits Richmond against Pittsburgh. We score 14 points in the first quarter to make it 14-0. WE add another 17 points before halftime to make it 31-0 at the half. Pittsburgh manages a score and a conversion late in the third quarter and we answer to make the final score 38-8. Pittsburgh was certainly not a worthy opponent this year. What happened to the Denver and Indianapolis and all their AFC East friends who used to at least show up? The rest of the league was pretty bad this year. No other team managed to win more than 10 games during the regular season.
